This study reports on research examining what students think about aspects of solution chemistry and seeks to establish what
alternative conceptions they hold in this area. To achieve this aim the researchers developed a test comprising of open-ended
questions that evaluated students understanding of solution chemistry. The test was administered to 441 students selected
randomly from different grades, grade 7 through grade 10. The research findings suggest that students have difficulty at comprehending
the investigated concepts in solution chemistry. Alternative conceptions about the concepts of dissolution, chemical bonding,
evaporation and condensation influence latter learning. Interestingly, the grade 9 students have the least percentages, except
for Item 3, amongst grades in terms of alternative conception. Also, students' alternative conceptions are also stored in
long-term memory and interact with each another. In the light of the findings, it can be suggested that the future research
may need to focus on classifying of students' responses in terms of categories in understanding such as propositions, strings,
images, episode, intellectual skills and cognitive strategies. 相似文献

Conclusion In this study, it was found that 70% of the students understood the meaning of chemical kinetics, and it helped them analyse the data. The experimental yield of CO 2(g) obtained by the students and the yield calculated were found to match. The exercise is a good example for constructive teaching of several aspects of chemical kinetics. 相似文献

A 4‐week mini‐project is proposed for an experimental Physical Chemistry course applied in Food Science training. Activities include preparation of beet extract for the extraction of betanins and analysis of the kinetics of betanins in thermal degradation at three temperatures (60, 70, and 80 ºC). Background: The context-based approach (CBA) is one of the approaches that allow learning to take place with real and related context, and this has increasingly become more popular. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of the REACT strategy of the CBA on remedying 12th grade students’ alternative conceptions of ‘alkenes’ and improving their conceptual understanding. Sample: The sample of the study consisted of 20 (10 girls and 10 boys – aged 17 to 18 years) 12th grade students who enrolled in the Chemistry course in the 2014–2015 academic year in a public high school. Design and methods: Since the current study evaluated student gains in conceptual understanding by means of a pre-test, post-test, and delayed-test scores, the study used a single group pre-posttest research design. To gather data, an Alkenes Concept Test (ACT) with 15 multiple choice items and a semi-structured interview protocol with 4 open-ended questions were used. The ACT was administered before and after the intervention as pre- and post-tests. Then, the semi-structured interview protocol was carried out. The ACT was re-administered third time to the students as a delayed-test one month after the intervention. Results: The results showed that the REACT strategy was effective to remedy the alternative conceptions and helped students to keep new conceptions in their long-term memory one month after the implementation. Conclusions: The REACT strategy was effective in enhancing conceptual understanding of ‘alkenes’ and helping 12th grade students to link between the scientific concepts and daily life. 相似文献

This study sought to measure general teacher efficacy levels of in‐service primary teachers in Hong Kong. Participants included 725 Hong Kong in‐service teachers, who were invited to take part in the study. These in‐service teachers came from 28 different primary schools ranging from government, aided, private and direct subsidy schools. The Chinese version of the 12‐item Teachers' Sense of Efficacy (C‐TSE) Scale was applied to investigate the efficacy of the teachers. A factor analysis of these 12 items when male and female datasets were combined led to the extraction of only one factor. But separation of the two datasets led to the extraction of different factor analysis models. This could reflect the different perceptions that male and female teachers had about the formation of teacher efficacy. Overall, this study showed that female teachers were significantly more efficacious than male teachers. Moreover, years of teaching experience showed a weak but significant correlation to levels of general teacher efficacy. Interestingly, educational levels did not have a significant effect on the efficacy of this group of in‐service primary teachers. Overall, the C‐TSE was found to be a valid and reliable scale for measuring the efficacy levels of this particular group of in‐service primary teachers in Hong Kong. 相似文献
