An evaluation of a pre‐training assistant educational psychologist programme

Two cohorts of psychology graduates with Graduate Basis for Registration (GBR) with the British Psychological Society (BPS), and a range of relevant work experience (teaching, youth and social work) were employed by the Kent Educational Psychology Service (EPS) over a two‐year period as assistant educational psychologists (Assistant EPs). This paper presents information about the role and effectiveness of this pre‐training Assistant EP programme. The role of the Assistant EP was identified as including: individual and group level casework, projects, applied research, and delivering training, under the direct supervision of EPs. All Assistant EP work was evaluated using a range of measures. Outcomes showed that intervention targets (as agreed using the Target Monitoring and Review form) were consistently met or exceeded. Key stakeholders perceived Assistant EPs to be a valuable and flexible resource and Assistant EPs felt that the role prepared them well for applying for professional training courses. The paper concludes with a brief discussion around the future role of pre‐training Assistant EPs.

MAX、DAQ助手及DAQmx VI之间的逻辑关系

在有关虚拟仪器及其编程语言LabVIEW的教科书中,对如何建立数据采集任务介绍了3种方式,即利用MAX软件、DAQ助手和DAQmx VI函数。但由于对这三者之间的逻辑关系介绍得不尽清楚、简明,致使学习者对这部分内容存疑较多,甚至概念模糊、不得要领。事实上,基于LabVIEW建立数据采集任务,本质上只有2种方式,即利用DAQ助手或利用DAQmx VI。本文试对基于LabVIEW实现数据采集的方式进行梳理和归纳,阐述MAX、DAQ助手、DAQmx VI之间的逻辑关系,着重分析DAQ助手和DAQmx VI函数的优缺点,进而给出使用建议。

广播电视大学现有的网络教学资源虽数量繁多,但缺少条理性和有序性,不利于学生进行自主学习。目前,网络教学资源的运用存在某些误区,应该在整合教学资源的基础上,将教学辅导资源合并归纳成＂学习帮手＂和＂考试助手＂两个栏目,以此促进网络教学资源的有机整合。

For reasons of expediency, Colleges of Education (engaged in initial teacher education outside the university sector) introduced a category of Assistant Lecturer in the 1960s. These posts were created to strengthen the subject studies base within the colleges. They attracted a somewhat modest salary, and young, recent graduates tended to be appointed to them. In this paper, the authors consider the extent to which these posts were a form of preparation for teaching, with some features in common with current ‘workplace’ routes to Qualified Teacher Status in England. The approach is autobiographical, recording and reflecting on the authors’ own experience as Assistant Lecturers in Mathematics in two Colleges of Education in the 1960s and early 1970s.     

Faculty and Technology: Implications for Faculty Training and Technology Leadership

The purpose of this study was to explore the factors affecting ICT adoption process and the implications for faculty training and technology leadership. Respondents represented a wide range of academic and professional positions. They identified themselves as Assistant, Associate, and Professor as well as Instructional Designer, Director of Technology, Information Manager, eLearning Manager, Assistant Department Chair, Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs and Consultant. The respondents identified Organizational Support, Leadership, Training and Development, and Resources as the predominate themes affecting Information and Communication Technology (ICT) adoption process in higher education. Evidence from this study offers insights on how higher education administrators and technology leaders could help their faculty and staff to implement appropriate ICT tools and practices to improve student learning.

Building intergenerational Bridges in early childhood

Charter Schools and Urban Education Improvement: A Comparison of Newark’s District and Charter Schools

This article compares student achievement of fourth graders in charter schools and district public schools in Newark, New Jersey. We find that Newark and New Jersey’s charter schools mirror the educational inequalities of the state as a whole, as well as its Abbott Districts. The data indicate that charter schools are similar to district urban public schools, with pockets of excellence and mediocrity. We measure school performance based on two criteria: actual test score performance, and the difference between actual and predicted performance. We find that some charter schools are able to achieve performance above predicted, given their school and student characteristics, while other schools do worse than predicted. Thus charter schools are not simply a magic bullet, but rather they warrant further investigation to see which practices work and which don’t, especially in a challenging urban setting such as Newark.Jason M.
