This article contends that not only journalism but also journalism studies can benefit from a stronger commitment to the public. While the bodies of literature on “popular journalism”, “public journalism” and “citizen/participatory journalism” have, in different contexts and from different angles, made a strong case in favour of a public-oriented approach to journalism, it is remarkable how few of the empirical studies on journalism are based on user research. As the control of media institutions over the news process is in decline, we should take the “news audience” more seriously and try to improve our understanding of (changing) news use patterns. Besides this rather obvious theoretical point, there are also societal and methodological arguments for a more user-oriented take on the study of journalism. Starting from a reflection on the key trends in news use in the digital age—participation, cross-mediality and mobility—this article attempts to show the theoretical and societal relevance of a radical user perspective on journalism and journalism research alike. Furthermore, we look at new methodological opportunities for news user research and elaborate on our arguments by way of an empirical study on changing news practices. The study uses Q-sort methodology to expose the impact a medium's affordances can have on the way we experience news in a converged and mobile media environment. The article concludes by discussing what the benefits of a radical user perspective can be both for journalism studies as for journalism.  相似文献

As online surveys have become popular, concerns have emerged about the quality of responses submitted via mobile technology, such as limited text readability, increased distractions, etc. To assess the validity of this concern, this study examines the effect of medium (PC, smartphone) on the response reliability of Big-Five Mini-Markers for personality. Results provide little support for the concern, indicating that responses from smartphones are as reliable as those submitted from PCs. Conditions where mobile devices may not suffer with poor reliability are discussed.  相似文献

传统新闻媒体依靠内容而得以存在,新闻聚合平台则是以技术取胜的代表。5G时代信息传播的特点决定了新闻聚合平台将在竞争中具有更大的优势,传统新闻媒体则面临更多的挑战和被侵权的风险。我国以"著作权法+反不正当竞争法"保护新闻出版者利益的弱保护模式已经不符合5G时代的要求。设立新闻出版者邻接权符合邻接权产生的历史逻辑和市场规律,在保护水平上更符合5G时代的特点。《著作权法》第三次修改将报社、期刊社等的工作人员创作的职务作品纳入特殊职务作品的范围,体现了加强保护新闻出版者利益的倾向。但总体来看,此修改仍偏于保守。我国未来在新闻聚合平台的治理上可以考虑适时在《著作权法》中增设新闻出版者邻接权条款。  相似文献

新闻侵害隐私权行为的发生率仅次于新闻侵害名誉权行为,是位居第二的新闻侵权类型。与对名誉高度重视不同,我国公民长期以来并没有养成保护自己隐私的习惯。在日常生活中,人们往往把知悉对方隐私多少作为彼此感情深浅的标志。一个隐含的潜规则是,要想获得某个圈子的接纳,就必须首先将自己的隐私告知。于是,我们时时可以看到在一些聚会上隐私被大张旗鼓传播的局面。这种情况也使得新闻媒体在报道新闻时对隐私权多有侵害但被诉诸法律的却并不多见。但是,随着人们隐私权意识的不断觉醒以及新闻侵权程度的不断加深,新闻侵害隐私权行为正在日益受到全社会的广泛关注。  相似文献

近年来不断出现的一些新闻侵权案,既反映了中国人民法律意识的进步,也使新闻工作者疲于应付,头痛不已。其实新闻侵权也是美国司法界、新闻界经常遇到的问题,他们对过失的认定带有极强的行业特色,这一点可能正是我们所缺少的。下面对美国新闻过失的认定作一介绍,以期对新闻界和司法界的同行能提供一点参考。 过失,包括疏忽和懈怠。行为人对自己行为的结果,应当预见或者能够预见而没有预见,为疏忽;行为人对自己行为的结果虽然预见了却轻信可以避免,是懈怠。疏忽和懈怠都是过失,都是对受害人应负注意义务的违反。因此,民法上的过失就是行为人对受害人应负注意义务的疏忽或懈怠。新闻报道是一项传播活动,带有很强的职业性,对消息的来源的  相似文献

From the late 1920s, all radio broadcasting in the United Kingdom was undertaken by a public sector broadcaster—the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). Television was also the exclusive preserve of the BBC until the mid-1950s, when advertiser-supported commercial stations came into existence. This form of competition for audiences, but not for finance, between two broadcasting sectors—called by some a 'comfortable duopoly'—persisted until the late 1980s when the government permitted competitive entry by cable and satellite operators, introduced competition for advertising revenue between terrestrial stations, and placed commercial television broadcasting on a more competitive footing by introducing tendering for franchises. As these changes have occurred, the BBC has maintained its traditional system of regulation and has continued to operate under a Royal Charter. Although the expiry of the current Charter at the end of 1996 has provoked a debate about the role of the BBC, the government has stated its intention to renew the Charter for another 10 years. It seems likely that, until the year 2002 at least, the current system of regulating and financing public Service broadcasting in the United Kingdom will remain intact. However, the proliferation of channels represents a threat to the BBC's audience base. There may also be difficulties in combining within the same organization a public service mission and highly commercial activities, undertaken in a very competitive world market.  相似文献
