The UCLA Biomedical Library, in cooperation with the UCLA Graduate School of Library and Information Science, offers a medical library internship program for second-year library school students. Goals, objectives, competencies, and training guidelines have been developed for the reference services section of the internship, including reference desk experience, online searching, group discussions, assigned readings, and training new staff members, allows flexibility in meeting the differing interests, needs, and abilities of trainees.  相似文献

This paper shows how the Galter Health Sciences Library of Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine developed and implemented a program to assess reference staff competencies for assisting users in the electronic environment after completing a new training program. The first phase was a year-long assessment of reference questions to identify the types of questions received at the desk. Next, a training program for reference was developed and implemented with an emphasis on answering the most common questions identified such as remote access, access privileges, holdings information, and database searching. The program included individualized instruction on library policies, electronic resources, access restrictions, and troubleshooting. The next phase was to create instruments to test staff competencies in answering questions after training. Based on the scores, additional training was individualized and provided to the appropriate staff member to enhance their skills where needed. The training system that was developed has proven to be effective as most staff scored better than 92% on initial testing. As a result, library management can be certain that users' questions are being answered correctly and that the staff has the skills required to work in an electronic environment.  相似文献

SUMMARY

The evolution of information literacy instruction for graduate students at the UCLA Anderson School of Management is described. The emphasis is on the need for instruction that develops student competencies with an eye toward the long view-a lifetime of learning. Key success factors are leveraging partnerships with key stakeholders, and developing just-in-time interventions at significant events in the student life cycle. An Information Literacy Campaign helped define the needs and competencies, and the subsequent pilot program, InfoIQ, has been successful in integrating information literacy instruction into the core MBA experience.  相似文献

Starting in the fall of 2012, the staff at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) Library began to plan for a library-wide reorganization of staff and services. Every staff member would be affected by the reorganization process, including the library’s serials and e-resources team. In what could be a most chaotic time, the serials and e-resources team chose to use the North American Serials Interest Group (NASIG) draft version of core competencies for electronic resource librarians as a guide to help in selecting members for the e-resources team that would emerge following the reorganization. The presentation on which this article is based reviews the situation at UTA, the core competencies, and how the serials/e-resources team used the core competencies along with a self-assessment tool to help select the most qualified staff for the team.  相似文献

Law libraries should play a greater role in addressing the current crisis in legal education. Proponents for educational reform often view libraries as a vehicle for cost savings, while overlooking the ability of libraries to train students in the skills and competencies that are essential for the practice of law. Libraries’ research assistant programs can be particularly effective in imparting workplace values and lawyering skills beyond the traditional law school curriculum. This article encourages libraries to build on the strengths of their research assistant programs as a substantive way to equip law students with essential skills for today's legal marketplace.  相似文献

As a result of suggestions from the American Library Association (ALA) the Division of Library and Information Science (DLIS) program at St. John's University implemented an end-of-program electronic portfolio (ePortfolio) requirement. The purpose of this ePortfolio is to provide information on student proficiency in the eight ALA core competencies to our external accrediting agency—the ALA Committee on Accreditation (CoA). This article will discuss how a Library and Information Studies (LIS) faculty member and a New Media and Communications Specialist worked together in developing the ePortfolio as an assessment tool for ALA reaccreditation within an online LIS program.  相似文献

[目的/意义] 分析国外图书馆职业能力研究进展,为国内相关研究提供适当参考。[方法/过程] 通过检索与“图书馆职业能力”相关的网络文献和国外全文数据库收录的学术期刊论文与学位论文,筛选出53篇核心文献,分为图书馆职业能力相关概念、图书馆职业能力类型与要素、特殊岗位图书馆员能力、图书馆职业能力调查、图书馆职业能力标准、图书馆职业能力教育6个主题进行综述。[结果/结论] 现有研究表明,人们对图书馆职业能力类型未形成共识,但整体上可分为专业能力与个人能力两大类,每类能力要素在不同学者看来是不同的;特殊岗位图书馆员职业能力明显不同;国外特别是美国颁布了许多图书馆职业能力标准;图书馆职业能力教育在国外受到高度重视,美国图书馆协会(ALA)认可的绝大多数LIS教学计划是与ALA核心能力一致的。  相似文献

基于问卷调查分析,论证企业核心竞争力要素包括企业产品能力、技术能力、员工能力、市场营销能力、组织管理能力,利用SPSS11.5的因子分析将50种企业知识管理活动简化为12个因子,且把前7个因子分别命名为知识领导、知识协调、知识获取、知识吸收、知识控制、知识创造、知识保护,利用SPSS11.5的信度分析验证这7类知识管理活动提升企业核心竞争力的可靠性,从而说明知识管理可以提升企业核心竞争力。  相似文献

[目的/意义] 通过解析美国专业图书馆协会(SLA)能力标准的修订,为国内制定相关图书馆员能力标准提供适当参考。[方法/过程] 利用比较分析法和内容分析法,剖析先后4个版本的SLA能力标准,并对其适用对象、结构要素、条款内容的修订进行探讨。[结果/结论] 经过3次修订,SLA能力名称、结构要素、条款内容都发生了变化;SLA能力标准适用对象越来越广泛,逐步扩展到所有的信息专业人员;SLA能力标准越来越突出信息专业人员在管理信息与知识资源、进行信息与知识检索和分析、组织信息与知识资产、开发信息与知识系统和技术、开展信息与知识服务、信息伦理建设等方面的核心能力;SLA能力要素越来越详细,覆盖的核心业务越来越全面。所有这些都可以为国内图书馆职业能力建设提供参考。  相似文献

This article describes how the Library Use Instruction Program at Northwest Missouri State University incorporates a heuristic model in which students continually evaluate and refine their information seeking practices while progressing through all levels of courses in diverse disciplines. The latest release of GRATEFUL MED offers medical libraries an opportunity to monitor searching patterns of end users searching the databases of the National Library of Medicine (NLM). A GRATEFUL MED use log records information from each search session. Analysis of the log from a recent beta test program at the Welch Medical Library indicates that most NLM searches occur in the MEDLINE database. Moreover, the study reveals that searchers overlook many user-friendly features of the program. Evaluation of the use log suggests changes for future versions of the program.  相似文献

Abstract

Core competencies have long been established in the competitive world of business and industry. These tenants lend themselves to individualization and branding, being exclusionary tools by their very nature. So how do core competencies fit in the world of libraries and information centers, particularly when considering potential employees? The concept of individual capacity is a better fit for information fields, being more inclusive and reflective of diverse knowledge bases and skillsets that working in this field requires. Juxtaposing the two, core competencies and individual capacity, will help us re-focus our efforts on user-centered information work rather than business rhetoric and conformity.  相似文献
