Idioms are essence of a language and a kind of special and fixed phrases or short sentences in the long period of language use.Because animals have been considered as people’s best friends for hundreds of years,people adopt different species of animals as metaphors to express all their emotions.However,due to the different national characteristics between English and Chinese,such as geographical conditions and tradition so in most cases easterners and westerners have different attitudes and understanding towards same animals,of course,some animal idioms have the same meaning.  相似文献

Both English and Chinese are rich in "dog" cultures. In order to learn English well and communicate successfully with foreigners in cross-cultural communication, it is necessary to make a comparative study on "dog" cultures in both languages. In this paper,the author uses data-driven and contrastive interlanguage analysis approach,applying AntConc 3.2.1 as the tool,to make a comparison between corpus FLOB and CLEC on the using of the word avoid.The result shows that the se mantic prosodic tendency between the two communities is in great similarities but also have differences.Through comparison and analysis,the author finds the hidden reason and summarizes how to improve.  相似文献

Educators always have two differing arguments over the functions of native language in the foreign language teaching. Many educational practitioners oppose the idea of using native language in second language teaching process due to the grammar translation approach still popular. The grammar translation approach underscore that native language and functional grammar should not be applied to the foreign language teaching. By utilizing different types of second language teaching theories, the author put great emphasis on the function of the native language in the second language teaching particularly on the function to the basic and intermediate level learners. The author contend that: we should exert the necessary function of the native language in foreign language teaching especially for the adult people. Native language should act as a catalyst in this process. Foreign language teachers should not refuse using native language. They should make the best use of native language in the TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) process and thus help student to form English thoughts. Nowadays, facing so many foreign language teaching methods and theories, we should seek the essence and get rid of the dross. As the famous English saying goes: keep the baby and throw out the bath. This article aims at arousing deeper and wider discussion among foreign language practitioners on this problem by making some positive and valuable functions of native language in second language teaching.  相似文献

This study looked at how five adolescent English Learners (ELs) in an English as a second language class use the available digital technology. Data collected consisted of classroom observations, student and classroom documents, and focus student interviews. Data collection and analysis were simultaneous processes. As is known to everyone, Henry David Thoreau was an outstanding American writer in the 19th century. However, he did not attract much attention at that time. In fact, Thoreau did not have a profound influence on American culture until the 20th century. It is generally acknowledged that his masterpiece Walden is one of the most outstanding literary works, in which the richness of thoughts contributes greatly to the spread of Thoreau's philosophy. Thanks to it, Thoreau's philosophy has attracted more and more attention. It is pleasantly surprised for a Chinese reader to find Confucianism in an American classical work of the 19th century. Many scholars have studied Confucianism in Walden in order to analyze how Confucianism influences Thoreau. However, these studies more or less overstate or understate the influence of Confucianism. Therefore, such a research does have great practical significance, that is, to objectively analyze how Confucianism influences an American writer and how it is repre?sented in his representative work.  相似文献

By contrasting the model compositions by advanced Chinese EFL learners and American university students in the cor pus approach,the present study analyzes the use of productive vocabulary by Chinese EFL learners both quantitatively and qualita tively.It is found that except the first 1000 most frequently used words,there is no statistically significant difference between the frequency distribution of the productive vocabulary used by both types of English learners.But in terms of the usages of the Eng lish words,the Chinese EFL learners exhibit inadequacy in understanding and employing them,especially with regard to semantic prosody and collocation.These findings are significant for the teaching of vocabulary in China.  相似文献

Adopting corpus-based approach, the use of copular verbs by Chinese college English learners is studied through a comparison between the COLEC and the LOCNESS. The main findings are: 1)Chinese college English learners under-use copular verbs; 2) Chinese college English learners select a limited variety of copular verbs; 3) Types of complement after most copular verbs used by Chinese college English learners lack variety; 4) Chinese college English learners use less various and more simpler complements than native speakers.  相似文献
