In China, artists born in the 1970s can always be identified by the variety and individuality of their works, Unlike the earlier generations who shared simllar strong social and political beliefs,the younger generation of artists doesn‘t really form schools with distinctive common features, such as the “scar arts” in the late 1970s, the “neoclassic” in the 1980s and the “new generation” as well as the “political pop arts” in the 1990s.

History Museum of Shaanxi： A Treasure House of Ancient Art

The History Museum of Shaanxi stands in the southern suburb of Xi＇an, capital city of Shaanxi Province, with the Big Goose Pagoda on its east side and the Da Xingshan （Great Benevolence） Temple on its west side. The neighborhood is the most dynamic cultural center in the Tang Dynasty （618 - 907 AD） where candidate scholars passing imperial examinations had their names inscribed on the Goose Pagoda as honors, emperors bestowed banquets to officials and honored scholars, noblemen appreciated dances and operas and poets ascended the Goose Pagoda to recite their poems on the Double Ninth Festival （the festival for climbing heights）. While numerous beautiful legends occurred in the neighborhood in the past, it attracts tourists from home and abroad with its unique charms today.

CHILDREN COSTUMES AND BABY CARRIERS OF SOUTHWEST CHINA

The history of embroidered costumes in China dates back to remote past. The extant oldest embroidery ever unearthed was made in the Shang Dynasly [c. 16th centuryc. 11 th century]. In ethnicity-dwelled areas in southwest China, including Guizhou, Yunan, Guangxi and Hunan, embroidery skills are still handed down in original forms and in a matriarchic manner. Local ethnic girls learn embroider/ skills from their mothers, making embroidered clothes not only for themselves but also for their children in the future. Their delicate and exquisite embroidery fabrics have considerably enriched folk arts of China.     

Picasso Exhibition Captures Imagination of Chinese Art Lovers

Against the background of the red imperial city walls in early spring of Beijing,renowned Spanish artist Pablo Picasso sips a mouthful of tea from a Chinese-style cup and gazes at passers-by with his sagacious eyes. That is an image on the thematic poster for the touring Picasso exhibition -- the largest and most valuable ever to visit Asia.     

Love Goes Beyond National Boundary——2009 French Week Series Launched in Beijing

The Modern Artistry of Ting Shao Kuang

TING Shao Kuang,a Chinese-American artist,is famousfor his modem heavy-colorpainting.Born In Chenggu County,Shaanxi Province,in 1939,he stu-died sketch and watercolor In themiddle school attached to the Cen-tral Academy of Fine Arts from1955 to 1957 in Beijing,then en-tered the Central Institute of Artsand Crafts to study decorative paint-ing,graduating in 1962 with excel-lent grades.During his study in theinstitute he won the appreciation ofnoted artists Zhang Ting,ZhangGuangyu and Pang Dongqin andwas deeply influenced by their theo-ry of color and line.The sevenyears‘training laid a solid founda-tion for his art career.     

The Fascination of Yangzhou

Many Chinese first come to know the city of Yangzhou from their childhood poetry books. The famous line from the Tang Dynasty verse - “You have left me behind, my old friend, at the Yellow Crane Tower, on your way to visit Yangzhou in the misty month of flowers“ - has stirred people‘s imagination and expectations about this fascinatina city in southeast China.     

The ＂February 8th Festival＂ of Yi People

＂The February 8th Festival＂, also called the ＂Miku Worship Festival＂, is the traditional ancestor worship festival for the Yi nationality in Dali, Yunnan Province. The ancestor worship, singings, and banquet are the major content of this festival. The Bi village is a family village composed of Yi nationalities in the Bi family, which is located halfway up a hill and surrounded by mountains. With 68 households and 314 villagers, the village has a history of more than 500 years. According to their founding legend, their ancestors used to live in the Diancang Mountains.     

NE.TIGER Launches Charity Auction to Aid Earthquake Victims

Since the tragic 8-magnitude earthquake hit Sichuan Province on May 12, all Chinese people ） have provided their generous aid and support toearthquake victims, which has touched the whole world. As China＇s top luxury brand name, NE.TIGER hosted a charity evening banquet ＆ auction to mobilize aid funds for earthquake victims in Beiiing on May 25. All the incomes from the auction have been donated to China Women Development Foundation which will be used to rebuild homes for earthquake victims.     

The Empire of Women： Not a Fairytale

In China there are small matriarchal societies which survived for thousands of years and whose culture is unknown by the majority of our modern world.One of them is the ancient cuiture of the Mosuo, an ethnic minority group living in the provinces of Yunnan and Sichuan, areas referred to in old Chinese historical records as ＂the empire of women＂. After reading about this culture, Mathilde Heijne, a Berlin-based artist, started thinking about an art proiect that would locus on their social structures and began planning a trip to Lake Lugu - the home of the Mosuo.

Chinese Terra-cotta Warriors of the First Emperor on Display in Huston, USA
The Exhibition on the Terra-cotta Warriors of the Qing Dynasly was opened in the end of May in Huston Museum of Natural Science. Chinese Consul General to Huston Qiao Hong and some 300 VIPs from Texas and Huston attended the opening ceremony. Qiao Hong noted in her opening address that the exhibition will help promote cultural exchange between the two countries and mutual understanding between the two peoples. The exhibition will be on display in Huston for five months.     

Safeguard the Purity of the Olympic Spirit

As the Olympic mascots ＂Five Friendlies＂ were released, the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games is approaching us. The anti-doping of the 2008 Olympics shall be undertaken by China Doping Test Center, whose performance at the 1990 Asia Games has been generally recognized and praised. However, the much larger scale of the Olympics will prove that the anti-doping task in 2008 will be much more difficult and complicated. Recently, the staff journalist interviewed fellow researcher Du Lijun from the sports medicine institute of the State Administration of Sports and his colleague Prof. Wu Moutian who just came back from the Durino Winter Olympics.
