There are two major political parties in America, the Republican Party and the Democratic Party. The Democratic Party tends to represent the interests of the middle or lower-middle classes, including many farmers and smaller businessmen. The Republican Party represents the interests of big businesses, big manufactures, merchants, financiers, and prosperous farmers and objects to governmental intervention in business. The two parties both believe in individualism, defend capitalism and uphold private ownership of means of production. One char-acteristic of the two parties is their loose organization. Anyone can join or desert any party freely. An American can register him as a Democrat at one election and then as a Republican an at another. He can even register as a member of one party but takes part in the election of another. Even within one party, there are differences about what the party should do. Sometimes a party＇s different members may advocate different pohcies in different areas.     

Different Thought Patterns and the Limitation in Translation Between Chinese and English Language

Thought patterns and language are closely related,they are two aspect of the culture.Translation,a tool of intercultural communication,connects the different thought patterns.In this paper,a specific analysis of the limitation in translation caused by the difference is illustrated.Thus,translation is influenced deeply by the different thought patterns.The only way to get the reappearance to the culture in translation is to find out the principles of translation from the different thought patterns.

Shakespeare and Tang Xianzu,who totally do not affect each,actually have two love plays.According to this feature,in this paper,I analyze these two plays in the changing subject matter,the theme,characters,the structure,play conflicts,tragedy styles and so on which are approximate in the external form——Romeo And Juliet and The Peony Pavilion,and discuss the differences of these two plays and the characteristics and rules of east and west plays.It objectively describes the similarities and differences on the conflict and rhythm.Romeo And Juliet and The Peony Pavilion are different in structural style and rhythm,because of different artistic character for each type of drama they belong to.It emphasizes similarities and differences of the tragedy style and the end.Chinese classical tragedy and the Shakespeare tragedy.This paper analyzes and contrasts Romeo and Juliet and The Peony Pavilion by the methods of comparison and contrast,and demonstrates different characteristics and styles of east and west plays as well as studies the profoundly historical culture behind the plays.     

An Eco-feminist Comparison between Sister Carrie and My Antonia

According to human history,there are varieties of ways through which the feminine aspect of nature faced and in many cases,overcame oppression.One of the ways this phenomenon displays itself is in the literary works that we deem as realistic and an expression of the norms and customs of the society in question.Sister Carrie and My Antonia are two such literary pieces that embody the struggles and triumphs of women in the 19th and most of the early 20th century.In creating such monumental and naturalistic adaptations,both authors are able to present the case of two migratory women from different backgrounds but confined by the norms and mannerisms of the society around them.The struggles that each of these characters undergoes is an expression of the underlying constraints that the paternal and chauvinistic society of their time places upon both women and the natural world.The eco-feminist agenda,however,gets a more elaborate representation in My Antonia than in Sister Carrie due to a variety of factors that serve to illuminate the differences between these two iconic stories.This paper makes a thorough comparison between two literary works—Sister Carrie by Theodore Dreiser and My Antonia by Willa Cather from the perspective of eco-feminism.

An Analysis of the Women Characters in A Rose for Emily and The Jilting of Granny Weatherall

This paper provides a literary analysis of"The Jilting of Granny Weatherall"by Katherine Anne Porter and"A Rose for Emily"by William Faulkner through the point of characterization.The main characters in the stories share several important similarities.However,each author has succeeded in portraying two very different women by adopting the unique point of view,different methods of characterization respectively,thus making both Miss Emily and Granny Weatherall vividly appear as the way they are,not simple characters resembling each other.     

The conductance and polarization in quantum wires with Rashba and Dresselhaus spin-orbit interactions

The conductance and polarization are studied in one-dimensional ballistic quantum wire with both Rashba and Dresselhaus spin-orbit interactions.Two kinds of structures are considered in the present work,one with mixture of two interactions and the other with sequence structure of them.We find that the conductance and polarization are strongly affected by these two interactions.With both interactions we obtain a multi-peak contour of spin polarization and a dramatic oscillation pattern of spin conductance,which are due to the different combination of the two spin-orbit interactions.     

Research on a Rigid Rotor—Sliding Bearing System with a Squeeze Film Damper

In this paper,a dynamic model on a rigid rotor-sliding bearing system with a SFD is established.The stability and bifurcation behaviors of the system are studied,on The basis of the differential equations of fluid momentum and mass continuity,the distribution pressure function is derived by taking oil film inertia force into consideration.Damping force, clearance excitation force,interference force of different frequencies and static load are also considered in the model,Finally,the governing equations of the stability and bifurcation behaviors of the system are solved by Floquet theory,Simulation of dynamic model shows that the rigid rotor-sliding bearing system can maintain stability and exhibit a Hopt bifurcation phenomenon in a certain range.     

Reliability analysis of a two-dependent-unit parallel system with a standby unit

A parallel system with two active components and a cold standby unit is studied in this paper. The two simultaneously working components are dependent and the copula function is used to model their dependence. An explicit expression is obtained for the mean time to failure of the system in terms of the copula function and marginal lifetime distributions in two different cases As an application, numerical calculations are presented corresponding to two different copula functions and marginal lifetime distributions.     

A Comparative Study of Scarlett and Bai Liusu from a Feminist Perspective

Scarlett and Bai Liusu,the protagonists of American literary classic Gone with the Wind and Chinese modern literary work Love in a Fallen City,are two distinct women images in the history of world literature.Their female consciousness can be discovered throughout both works.This paper attempts to make a comparative study between the two heroines,by analyzing their female consciousness which is primarily expressed in the pursuit of love,money and independence,as well as their personalities and destiny.The study discovers that although Scarlett and Bai Liusu experience similar awakening process,their endings are different.The democratic Western culture allows Scarlett to grow up into a rebellious new woman;by contrast,thousands of years of Chinese feudal society decide that Bai Liusu’s female consciousness is not thorough enough.     

Models for lifetime estimation： an overview with focus on applications to wind turbines

This paper provides an overview of models and methods for estimation of lifetime of technical components. Although the focus in this paper is on wind turbine applications, the major content of the paper is of general nature. Thus, most of the paper content is also valid for lifetime models applied to other technical systems. The models presented and discussed in this paper are classified in different types of model classes. The main classification used in this paper divides the models in the following classes： physical models, stochastic models, data-driven models and artificial intelligence, and combined models. The paper provides an overview of different models for the different classes. Furthermore, advantages and disadvantages of the models are discussed, and the estimation of model parameters is briefly described. Finally, a number of literature examples are given in this paper, providing an overview of applications of different models on wind turbines.     

A Brief Study of Hu Gengshen's Eco-Translatology: with the Comparison of Translation Ecology

Eco-translatology and Translation Ecology are two new aspects of translation study.They arise from the development of Ecology and the interdisciplinary tendency of translation studies.The present paper intends to make a clear introduction of the two branches of translation study and make a comparison based on the introductions in order to provide insights into these new perspectives to translation studies.The paper points out that they are different in terms of developing routes,naming principles,terminology,methodology,research pivot,etc.A conclusion is drawn that clarification of their relationship will provide insights into the two branches of translation study and Hu Gengshen’s approach to translation as adaptation and selection adds a new dimension to translation study as an academic discipline.

This paper is an attempt to reveal the complexity of the character of Hamlet in Shakespeare's tragedy—Hamlet and the importance of the role that his pretense of lunacy plays in the plot. The different sides of his personality are revealed by the analysis of some of Hamlet's behavior. The argument is also established that the hero's pretense of lunacy is a device in the plot which allows the full display of the character's complexity.

The manafacturing theory proposed in this paper is composed of the se-lection of the machining type(motions and adjustments)and the determination of thefunctions of motion parameters.The paper shows that the special revolving tools withconstant spiral angled egdes can be ground in the[x y (?)]or[x y z (?)]systembased on the conjugate theory and differential geometry.The functions of motion pa-rameters in these two systems are deduced.     

Virtual simulation of production line for ergonomics evaluation

To avoid ergonomic problems in the early planning stages of a production line and achieve more satisfactory planning and design, ergonomic simulation is particularly important in digital production line planning. An ergonomics analysis method is presented by using two theories： Ovako working posture analysis system （OWAS） and Burandt-Schultetus hand-arm force analysis （BSHA）. The processes of ergonomics analysis and simulation are discussed based on a platform of process simulation and process designer. As an example, the paper shows how ergonomics problems are considered in production line planning to make a better choice between different production line planning schemes.

Transcribing and Comparing Classroom and Casual Conversations

This article reflects on how to transcribe two audio recordings and conducts a comparative analysis on them,aiming at identifying the typical features of transcribing process and identifying the different features of classroom and casual conversations.The first recording is an institutional conversation recorded in a module called"Communication skills for teachers"in an under graduate classroom in Singapore.The second is a casual conversation occurring among four MA classmates who met for their sec ond time.The first part of this article focuses on the issues met and the insights gained in transcribing.The second part is a com parative analysis that leads to the conclusion classroom and casual conversations are two different genres of spoken interactions with distinctive features shaped by field and tenor.     

Atmospheric corrosion mapping of copper surfaces from diffuse light scattering measurements by an optoelectronic sensor system

A novel light scattering technique for mapping metal surface corrosion is presented and its results on copper exposed to atmosphere are reported. The front end of the instrument is made up of a sensor module comprising a thin beam light emitting diode （LED） illuminating a small spot on the metal surface, and a matched pair of photodetectors, one for capturing the reflected light and the other for sampling the scattered light. The analog photocurrent signals are digitized and processed online by a per- sonal computer （PC） to determine the corrosion factor defined in terms of the two current values. By scanning the sample surface using the light beam and by computing the corrosion factor values simultaneously, a three dimensional graph and a two dimensional contour map are generated in the PC using Matlab tools. The values of the corrosion factor measured in different durations of exposure to atmosphere, which obey a bilogarithmic law, testify to the validity of our mathematical model.
