PERMDEX is a microcomputer program to assist in the creation of a permuted printed index which preserves the context of indexing paraphrases. Although much simpler than PRECIS, the microcomputer program was inspired by it, and uses role operators to permute terms through lead, qualifier, and display positions. Following a discussion of derivative vs assignment indexing, the use of roles, and the concept behind PRECIS, features of the program are described including indexer input and prompts, the shunting algorithm, and sorting and printing routines.  相似文献

Does human intellectual indexing have a continuing role to play in the face of increasingly sophisticated automatic indexing techniques? In this two-part essay, a computer scientist and long-time TREC participant (Pérez-Carballo) and a practitioner and teacher of human cataloging and indexing (Anderson) pursue this question by reviewing the opinions and research of leading experts on both sides of this divide. We conclude that human analysis should be used on a much more selective basis, and we offer suggestions on how these two types of indexing might be allocated to best advantage. Part one of the essay critiques the comparative research, then explores the nature of human analysis of messages or texts and efforts to formulate rules to make human practice more rigorous and predictable. We find that research comparing human vs automatic approaches has done little to change strongly held beliefs, in large part because many associated variables have not been isolated or controlled.Part II focuses on current methods in automatic indexing, its gradual adoption by major indexing and abstracting services, and ways for allocating human and machine approaches. Overall, we conclude that both approaches to indexing have been found to be effective by researchers and searchers, each with particular advantages and disadvantages. However automatic indexing has the over-arching advantage of decreasing cost, as human indexing becomes ever more expensive.  相似文献

In this paper, an active fault tolerant control (AFTC) scheme is proposed for more electric aircraft (MEA) equipped with dissimilar redundant actuation system (DRAS). The effect of various fault/failure of hydraulic actuator (HA) on the system performance is analyzed in this work. In nominal condition, the state feedback control law is designed for primary control surfaces. In the presence of fault/failure of certain HA, control allocation (CA) scheme together with integral sliding mode controller (ISMC) is retrofitted with existing control law and engaged the secondary (redundant) actuators into the loop. A modified recursive least square (RLS) algorithm is proposed to identify the parametric faults in HA and to measure the effectiveness level of the actuator. In an event of failure of all HA’s in the system, electro hydraulic actuators (EHA) are taken in loop to bring the system back to its nominal operation. In order to stabilize the closed-loop dynamics of HA and EHA, fractional order controllers are designed separately for each actuator. Simulations on the lateral directional model of aircraft demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed scheme as compared to the existing methods in the literature.  相似文献

Pretesting is the most commonly used method for estimating test item difficulty because it provides highly accurate results that can be applied to assessment development activities. However, pretesting is inefficient, and it can lead to item exposure. Hence, an increasing number of studies have invested considerable effort in researching the automated estimation of item difficulty. Language proficiency tests constitute the majority of researched test topics, while comparatively less research has focused on content subjects. This paper introduces a novel method for the automated estimation of item difficulty for social studies tests. In this study, we explore the difficulty of multiple-choice items, which consist of the following item elements: a question and alternative options. We use learning materials to construct a semantic space using word embedding techniques and project an item's texts into the semantic space to obtain corresponding vectors. Semantic features are obtained by calculating the cosine similarity between the vectors of item elements. Subsequently, these semantic features are sent to a classifier for training and testing. Based on the output of the classifier, an estimation model is created and item difficulty is estimated. Our findings suggest that the semantic similarity between a stem and the options has the strongest impact on item difficulty. Furthermore, the results indicate that the proposed estimation method outperforms pretesting, and therefore, we expect that the proposed approach will complement and partially replace pretesting in future.  相似文献

What can the brain–computer interface (BCI) do? Wearing an electroencephalogram (EEG) headcap, you can control the flight of a drone in the laboratory by your thought; with electrodes inserted inside the brain, paralytic patients can drink by controlling a robotic arm with thinking. Both invasive and non-invasive BCI try to connect human brains to machines. In the past several decades, BCI technology has continued to develop, making science fiction into reality and laboratory inventions into indispensable gadgets. In July 2019, Neuralink, a company founded by Elon Musk, proposed a sewing machine-like device that can dig holes in the skull and implant 3072 electrodes onto the cortex, promising more accurate reading of what you are thinking, although many serious scientists consider the claim misleading to the public. Recently, National Science Review (NSR) interviewed Professor Bin He, the department head of Biomedical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University, and a leading scientist in the non-invasive-BCI field. His team developed new methods for non-invasive BCI to control drones by thoughts. In 2019, Bin’s team demonstrated the control of a robotic arm to follow a continuously randomly moving target on the screen. In this interview, Bin He recounted the history of BCI, as well as the opportunities and challenges of non-invasive BCI.  相似文献

This paper investigates the problem of secure control for networked control systems (NCSs) under randomly occurring zero-value attacks (ROZVAs). Specifically, ROZVAs only offset the true signal without injecting obfuscated information or noises, and possess the minimum energy of the added malicious information. To protect system stability against ROZVA, randomly occurring integrity check protection (ROICP) is introduced which prevents malicious data injection with less energy cost than persistently occurring protection. Besides the random phenomena of ROZVA and ROICP, which are characterized by two mutually independent random variables obeying the Bernoulli distribution, the randomly occurring time delays caused by ROICP are also considered in system modelling. According to the built stochastic linear system model, security analysis of the NCS with ROICP subject to ROZVA is carried out and sufficient condition for stochastic stability is derived via a linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach. Based on the proposed condition, a compensation feedback controller is designed to facilitate system stability. Finally, simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed method.  相似文献

This paper’s primary motivation is to construct a class of novel terminal sliding-mode (TSM) control to stabilize systems rapidly with reduced chattering. To this end, a novel sliding surface, coined as practical TSM (PTSM) manifold, is designed with the help of the logarithmic hyperbolic cosine function. Since the partial flatness, i.e. the Lipschitz continuity and the practical terminal attractiveness, of the proposed PTSM manifold results in its derivative nonsingularity, the super-twisting algorithm (STA) is employed to generate its finite-time reachability with reduced chattering. Once the proposed sliding surface is established, controlled states will quickly fall into a small neighborhood of the equilibrium and then asymptotically slide to zero with a local high gain. In addition, this method is extended to solve the control problem of systems with mismatched uncertainties. Several groups of simulations verify the superiority of proposed controllers.  相似文献

The robust fault estimation problem for linear discrete time-varying (LDTV) systems subject to multiplicative noise is investigated by means of finite impulse response (FIR) filter. A novel analytical redundancy, expressed via all states of the previous time window, is originally established to construct the fault estimator. To ensure the satisfactory fault estimation accuracy in stochastic sense under the interference of random uncertainty, a new performance index in forms of matrix trace function is proposed. An easy-to-check necessary and sufficient condition is presented to obtain the optimal filter gain via minimizing the performance index at each time instant. It is analytically demonstrated that, the newly proposed fault estimation algorithm enjoys obvious computational advantages in updating the filter gain, especially as the length of the time window increases for time-varying systems. Simulation results are finally provided to verify its feasibility and superiority.  相似文献

This paper examines nongoal oriented transactions with texts in order to investigate the information encounter in the context of daily living. Findings are reported from a larger research project based on intensive interviews with 194 committed readers who read for pleasure. The paper analyses interview responses that illuminate two aspects of the readers' experience of reading for pleasure: (1) how readers choose books to read for pleasure; and (2) books that have made a significant difference in readers' lives. The paper concludes with five themes emerging from this analysis that have implications for the information search process: the active engagement of the reader/searcher in constructing meaning from texts; the role of the affective dimension; ‘trustworthiness’; the social context of information seeking; and the meta-knowledge used by experienced readers in making judgments about texts.  相似文献

Many dynamical systems are continuous-time non-square with unknown mismatched input and output disturbances. For such systems, a universal on-line robust optimal tracking control is often desirable. In this paper, the conventional proportional-integral-differential (PID) controller is utilized as a fictitious PID filter to shape the tracking error in the frequency-domain using a quadratic performance index as a weighting function, such that the robust PID-shaped PI tracker integrated with the equivalent input disturbance (EID) estimator is established to carry out the on-line robust optimal tracking control of the general disturbed system. The benefits and discrepancies of the proposed compensation improvement mechanism over the conventional optimal trackers for continuous-time non-square systems with/without unknown mismatched input and output disturbances are listed as follows: (i) It develops a new net EID estimator without any previously established constraints on the dimensions of the system and on the disturbances; (ii) It provides an efficient estimated-state-feedback-based EID estimator in contrast to the conventional output-feedback-based EID estimators; (iii) It is able to carry out on-line EID estimation of the tracking errors for systems with endogenous/exogenous output disturbances; (iv) It is a universal tracker which can be simply implemented as a plug-in EID estimator for most servo systems, to improve the performance of any existing observers/trackers which are not allowed to be removed from the system. The advantages of the proposed method over two existing outstanding approaches reported in the literature are pointed out using illustrative examples.  相似文献

This paper considers the topic of adaptive leader-following fault-tolerant tracking control for a class of non-strict feedback nonlinear multi-agent systems with or without state constraints in a unified solution. Through the use of certain transformation techniques, the original constraint system is recast as a new completely unconstrained system. Compared with the existing results, the limitation that the constraint functions need upper bound is relaxed. By employing radial basis function neural networks (RBFNNs) to approximate the unknown functions. A novel adaptive fault-tolerant consensus tracking control (CTC) manner is raised with command filtered backstepping design. Then, through the Lyapunov stability analysis, the proposed scheme can ensure all signals in the closed-loop system are cooperative semi-globally uniformly ultimately bounded (SGUUB). Finally, simulation example confirms the efficiency of the proposed method.  相似文献
