Huang Kun Honored with National Top S&T Award

Together with Prof. Wang Xuan from Peking University, CAS physicist Huang Kun received Supreme Scientific and Technological (S&T) Award in 2001 from Chinese President Jiang Zeming in Beijing on February 2. Each gets five million yuan (US$ 602,000) as part of the award for their lifetime achievements.     

Chinese Researchers Honored with Prince Mahidol Award

Chinese researchers have been bestowed the 2003 Prince Mahidol Award in medicine for their contributions to the development of an anti-malarial medicine, Qinghaosu and its derivatives. His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand conferred the awards on January 29 at the Chakri Throne Hall in Bangkok.

China＇s Top 10 S＆T Advances in 2009

On January 20, 2010, ten S＆T advances were announced to have distinguished themselves as the most outstanding work made by Chinese scientists over the past year, as the result from a ballot attended by 563 Members of CAS and the Chinese Academy of Engineering （CAE）.     

CAS research is honored with National S&T Awards

The National Supreme Science and Technology Award in 2006 goes to Prof. LI Zhensheng, a geneticist from the CAS Institute of Genetics & Developmental Biology. At the Awarding Ceremony held on 27 February in Beijing, Prof. Li, also a CAS member, received the certificate for the prestigious award, which comes with a five million yuan (about $650,000) prize, from Chinese President HU Jintao. Nationwide, 326 research projects were honored with the 2006 national S&T awards, including 29 with the National Award for Natural Sciences (two first prizes and 27 second ones); 56 with the National Award for Technological Invention (one first prize and 55 second ones) and 241 with the National Award for Science and Technology Progress (one special prize, 20 first prizes and 220 second ones). Among the 326 projects, 30 were headed by CAS scientists. They include 12 winning the second prize of the National Award for Natural Sciences, five winning the second prize of the National Award for Technological Invention and 13 winning the National Award for Science and Technology Progress (two first prizes and 11 second ones).

Nobel Laureate Honored with Chair at CAS Institute

Nobel laureate Prof. Daniel C.Tsui, of Princeton University, received an honorary title of chair of the CAS Institute of Physics during a visit to the Beijing institute on Nov. 17. He also agreed to set up a chair for which he will invite a visiting first-class scientist to the institute each year.
