Intangible Cultural Heritage in China （I）

On December 4, 2013, UNESCO officially listed Chinese Zhusuan, knowledge and practices of mathematical calculation through abacus, as the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. It is China＇s thirtieth inscribed on the List and made the country to rank top in terms of the elements to be included on the List.

China＇s Mt. Wutai Joins World Heritage List

Asacred mountain in China that has been witness to centuries of Buddhist history was added to UNESCO＇s World Heritage List during the 33rd session of the World Heritage Committee in Seville, Spain on June 6, 2009. The new addition to the heritage list is Mt. Wutai, comprised of five continuous mountains with flat peaks at altitudes of 2,500 to 3,000 meters above sea level. This new addition increased China＇s World Heritage entries to 38, including 27 cultural heritage sites, 7 natural heritage sits and 4 mixed heritage sites.     

Memory of the Old Capital Exhibition on Beijing＇s traditional courtyard houses on display in Bangkok,Thailand

To celebrate the 65 years anniversary of Sino-Czech diplomatic relations, the Chinese 1 Cuhural Relics Exhibition was held in the worldwide known Prague Castle. Under the great support of China＇s State Administration of Cultural Heritage, Cultural Affairs Bureau of Czech and Chinese embassy in Czech, the ＂Chinese Treasures Exhibition＂ , which was sponsored by Art Exhibitions China （AEC） and the Czech-China Friendship Association.     

Convergence of Civilizations： World Heritage Sites in Croatia Exhibited in Beijing

The exhibition ＂World Heritage Sites in Croatia＂,under the auspices of Chinese Cultural Ministy and co-presented by Center of International Cultural Exdhange and Croatian Embassy in Beijing,opened in the newly-built Boyi Gallery on October 26.Some 80 guests from Chinese Cultural Ministry ,diplomatic missions in Beijing adn the art circle of Beijing attended the opening ceremony.     

Ruins of the Bronze Age Inscribed on the World Heritage List

On July 13, Yin Xu, ruins of ancient Shang Dynasty capital ill Anyang City was inscribed on the World ＂Heritage List and became China＇s 33rd World Heritage site.

Polish Olympic Stamps and Chopin Posters Displayed in Beijing

The exhibition ＂Olympic Stamps from Polish Chopin＇s Hometown＂, a major event of Culture Festival, was held from May 18 to June 2 in Boyi Gallery in Beijing. This exhibition, in celebration of the 2008 Olympics and ever-growing cultural ties between China and Poland, was coorganized by Chinese Cultural Ministry and Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, in partnership with the Center of International Cultural Exchange, China ＆. World Cultural Exchange magazine and Adama Mickiewicza Institute.

The dog is one of the earliest animals that mankind tamed and became man＇s close friend as early as in the primitive fishing and hunting age,according to historians.Panhu,a divine dog,is even a totem that Miao people worship.Today,Miao people surnamed Tian Still don＇t eat dog meat.It is said that the dog understand human feelings and raising and loving dogs has become part of human customs and culture. There are many entries about the dog in the Guizhou Section of China Cultural Relics Maps compiled by the State Administration of Cultural Heritage.     

Crossover Integration： Way Out for Private Museums

According to the statistics of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage （SACH）, China private museums totaled 811 as of the end of 2013. The rapidly increasing number of private museums reflects the soaring development of China＇s cultural sector. However, many private museums are not as in smooth water as imagined. According to Ma Shaohua, president of Zhongchuan Institute of Cultural Research, private museums should not wait for government support： instead, they should find a solution of crossover integration in order to achieve sustainable development.

CULTURAL HERITAGE CONSERVATION CALLS FOR GREATER PUBLIC AWARENESS AND INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION

A 36-person delegation from the US President＇s Committee on the Arts and the Humanity paid an official visit to China from June 5 to 13 at the invitation of Chinese Cultural Ministry. On June 10, the delegation attended a seminar on the conservation of world heritage sites in Suitcase House in Commune by the Great Wall,a resort hotel in the suburb of Beijing.At the seminar Shan Jixiang,Director-General of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage of China,delivered a presentation on the trends of cultural heritage conservation in China as wall as China-US exchange and cooperation in the field of cultural heritage conservation.     

Ancient Buddhist Sculpture Embodies Chinese and Tibetan Wisdom

On the occasion of the International Museum Day on May 18, the Ten Best Museum Exhibitions of the Year were released, a competition sponsored by the State Administration of Cultural Heritage of China and co-organized by Chinae Museum Association, Xi＇an Municipality and China Heritage News. The exhibition ＂Buddhist Sculpture Masterpieces of Ancient China＂ by the Capital Museum in Beijing won the ＂Best Production ＂ award.
