60 YEARS OF PURSUIT OF PERFECITION Exhibition of Jin Shangyi＇s Donations held in National Gallery

The Exhibition of Jin Shangyi＇s Donations, jointly-organized by the Aft Department of the Cultural Ministry, the Central Academy of Fine Arts and Phoenix Press Group, was recently held in the National Art Museum of China, displaying the master artist＇s 39 latest oil works, sketches as well as his past donations to art museums.

Government and Bank Collaborate to Support Cultural Industries
On March 10, the Ministry of Culture of China （MOC） and the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China （ICBC） signed a strategic cooperation agreement in supporting cultural industries. Cultural Minister Cai Wu and ICBC Chairman Jiang Jianqing attended the signing ceremony. According to this agreement, MOC and ICBC will abide by the principle of＂conducting long-term cooperation, supplementing each other＇s advantages and promoting common development＂ in order to encourage the development of cultural industries of China.

Private art museums mushroomed in just a few years in China＇s metropolises like Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. While bringing a new lijestyle to local residents, private museums in China are facing with such challenges as lack of operation fund and quite low viewer attendance.

My Second Hometown Langde Village

I was born in Gouliang Village, Fenghuang County, Hunan Province, which is dubbed as the ＂First Miao People Village of Western Hunan＂. But I have been more fascinated by my second hometown, Langde Village in Leishan County, Guizhou Province, which is known as the hometown of folk arts of China and one of the 100 most unique museums of China. The village was proclaimed as a key heritage site under state-level protection in 2001, included in the candidate list for World Cultural Heritage nomination in 2006, awarded the title of ＂China Landscape Village＂ in 2007 and hosted Olympic torch relay in 2008. Over the past 25 years, I visited this beautiful village for more than 100 times.

CULTURAL HERITAGE CONSERVATION CALLS FOR GREATER PUBLIC AWARENESS AND INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION

A 36-person delegation from the US President＇s Committee on the Arts and the Humanity paid an official visit to China from June 5 to 13 at the invitation of Chinese Cultural Ministry. On June 10, the delegation attended a seminar on the conservation of world heritage sites in Suitcase House in Commune by the Great Wall,a resort hotel in the suburb of Beijing.At the seminar Shan Jixiang,Director-General of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage of China,delivered a presentation on the trends of cultural heritage conservation in China as wall as China-US exchange and cooperation in the field of cultural heritage conservation.     

Challenges and Restrictions： Development of Private Art Museums in China

A well-operated art museum should have diverse funding sources; its opera- tion capital should come both from do- nors and sponsors and from market op- eration. For private art museums in China today, the biggest challenge may be fund raising.

Yongle Palace： a Taoist Temple with Amazing Murals

Yongle Palace, located in Ruicheng County, northern Shanxi Province, is China＇s most well-preserved Yuan-Dynasty architecture. The scale and artistic achievement of its mural paintings are known as the top best among all existing mural paintings of the same subject. But many may not know that this magnificent Taoist temple structure was entirelv moved from its former site in Yongle Town to Ruicheng County between 1959 and 1964. UNESCO＇s nomination process stipulates that moved historical buildings are not qualified for the World Heritage nomination, but Yongle Palace was included on the tentative World Cultural Heritage list in 1998. According to the senior expert from the World Heritage Center who visited Yongle Palace in 2005, the whole movement project was well-designed and conducted with superb skills, which retained integrity and authenticity of this historical building to the largest possible extent. Thus, it can be included on the tentative list as an exception.

Common Declaration on the Protection of Cultural Heritage in the Maritime Silk Road of South China Sea Released

A seminar on the protection of cultural heritage in the maritime Silk Road of South China Sea was held in Haikou, capital city of Hainan province on June 21. Representatives from 37 research institutes, local bureaus for cultural heritage, and museums from across the country jointly released the Common Declaration on the Protection of Cultural Heritage in the Maritime Silk Road of South China Sea.
