The profession of physical education must refocus on the centrality of the study of human movement. Physical educators have too long diluted the basic field rather than emphasize the common mission of understanding human movement and the contribution it makes to human physical and mental health. Ten principles are set fourth to aid in, “Reclaiming and Transforming Physical Education”: (a) Emphasize the uniqueness of human movement; (b) put first things first in establishing a common core of knowledge for all professionals; (c) appreciate the “web of connectedness”; (d) enhance communication between and among professionals; (e) take control and responsibility for ethical action, (f) act on principles; (g) appreciate diversity; (h) uphold standards of fairness; (i) facilitate the collective production of practical and theoretical knowledge; and (j) transform physical education by anticipating and creating change.  相似文献

Chronic post-hypoxic myoclonus, also known as Lance-Adams syndrome (LAS), is a rare complication of successful cardiopulmanry resuscitation often accompanied by action myoclonus and cerebellar ataxia. It is seen in patients who have un-dergone a cardiorespiratory arrest, regained consciousness afterwards, and then developed myoclonus days or weeks after the event. Worldwide, 122 cases have been reported in the literature so far, including 1 case of Chinese. Here we report 2 Chinese LAS patients with detailed neuroimagings. Cranial single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) of patient 1, a 52-year-old woman, showed a mild hypoperfusion in her left temporal lobe, whereas patient 2, a 54-year-old woman, manifested a mild bilateral decrease of glucose metabolism in the frontal lobes and a mild to moderate decrease of the N-acetyl aspartate (NAA) peak in the bilateral hippocampi by cranial [18F]-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomographic (PET) scan and cranial magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS), respectively. We also review the literature on the neuroimaging, pathogenesis, and treatment of LAS.  相似文献

This article offers an invitational model for overcoming prejudices. The proposed model is based on Haberman's (1994) five-step approach to facing prejudices, which includes (1) analyzing prejudices; (2) seeking the sources of the beliefs; (3) examining the benefits of prejudice; (4) considering the effects of prejudices; and (5) planning to eliminate prejudices. Purkey's (1992) five-level conflict-management process adapted to prejudice serves as the five-part action plan in Haberman's fifth step. The combination of these two models yields an invitational approach with five parts: (1) perceiving concern, (2) conferring with oneself; (3) consulting with colleagues; (4) confronting the crisis; and (5) combating prejudices. Practical questions and examples are provided to clarify each step. We shall overcome, We shall overcome, We shall overcome someday. This paper introduces and evaluates four practical multidimensional linking procedures that are based on the theoretical framework recently proposed by Davey, Oshima, and Lee (1996): (a) the Direct method, (b) the Equated Function method, (c) the Test Characteristic Function (TCF) method, and (d) the Item Characteristic Function (ICF) method. The evaluation was conducted using simulated data. As anticipated, the competing procedures yielded different linking parameter estimates. The TCF and ICF methods were found to be more stable and recovered the true linking parameters better than the other two methods. Furthermore, all procedures were found to be acceptable under almost any of the minimization criteria and offered dramatic improvement over not linking at all. It is recommended that the choice of a linking procedure should depend on the purpose of linking.  相似文献

QTLNetworkR is an R package that aims to provide a user-friendly and platform-independent tool to visualize quantitative trait loci (QTL) mapping results. The graphical functions of the QTLNetworkR are based upon lattice and grid packages, and the graphical user interface (GUI) of the QTLNetworkR is built upon RGtk2 and gWidgetsRGtk2 packages. Six functions are designed to help visualize marker interval, putative QTL, QTL-by- environment interactions, marker interval interactions, epistasis, and the predicted genetic architecture of complex traits. It is especially helpful in profiling results for multiple traits at multiple environments. The current version of QTLNetworkR is able to accept QTL mapping results from QTLNetwork, and it is ready for possible extensions to import results from some other QTL mapping software packages. In addition, we presented a QTL mapping result in rice (Oryza sativa) as an example to describe the features of QTLNetworkR.  相似文献

Suicidal behavior occurs in a variety of ways, ranging from dramatic action resulting in violent death to, at the other extremer, so-called "suicide gestures," i.e., suicide attempts which are historically "staged" so as to insure timely intervention and "rescue" by others. Counseling Center response to this wide range of suicidal behavior varies and needs to be tailored to the particular circumstances. In what follows, emphasis will be on "pastvention," that is, intervention after the suicidal event, but as will become evident, some of these remedial or therapeutic measures also have preventive, essentially educational benefits. While previous reviewers of the literature on early parent-infant contacts assume existing experiments are adequate tests of the sensitive period hypothesis, this review asserts that the hypothesis has not been tested on three counts: (1) there are no systematic studies of initial mother-infant contacts, (2) the majority of the studies confound timing and amount of contact, and (3) failure to consider underlying mechanisms resulted in the omission of designs and dependent measures that could address the appropriate questions.  相似文献

CILT2000 helped VisMod evolve from a collection of local and distinct research and development efforts into a solid field of education. Previous intellectual efforts focused around a) modeling and simulation tools, b) visual explanation tools, c) visual data analysis tools, d) exploring student needs in the context of VisMod, and e) exploring instructional frameworks for VisMod. These focus areas have evolved in two main trajectories, representing the evolution of the field, the generalization trend, which seeks to identify general principles and guidelines for designing learning environments, and the equitable application trend, seeking to use knowledge gained in the field to leverage education in general.  相似文献
