Meeting the Information Needs of Battered Women:

Wde assault is an important social problem that needs to be addressed by librarians and library and information science (LIS) re:;earchers concerned with the way in which battered women search for information. This paper reports on two studies in which the social1 service network is viewed as a type of information system and which question the effectiveness of community responses to the information needs of battered women. The results of these studies suggest several ways in which LIS professionals can better assist three client groups: individual battered women, social service providers, and public policy or decision makers.

Information Needs of Special Populations:

The interactive presentation of information has s w i a l utility for individuals with coative disorders who may experience difficullty processing information from books. This article reports on a use of cbmputer-Sded instruction (CAI) and multimedia iechnology to meet the information needs of a special population-people who have severe and persistent mental illnesses. LSCA Title I monies funded this alternative approach lo traditional :institutional library services to explore the romise held by CAI for helping thought-disordered patrons intern aP ize information, in this case on consumer health and vocational topics. Described here are this population's special needs, the rationale for services to be tailored accordingly, uses of computers in psychiatric rehabilitation, collection development and usage, and reaction to the project.

进入新时代,网络已广泛运用于人们生活、学习和工作的各个方面。为适应新时代的发展要求,民族高校图书馆不仅要更加充实馆藏,而且要科学合理地配置资源,优化布局。文章在分析网络环境对民族高校图书馆信息资源建设带来影响的基础上,阐述了民族高校图书馆信息资源建设存在的困境,提出了新时代加强民族高校图书馆信息资源建设的对策。     

Information Needs: Developing Personas of Humanities Scholars

A persona represents a group of target users that share common behavioural characteristics. The personas method, an approach to systems design, has been receiving significant attention from practitioners. However, only anecdotal evidence currently exists for the effectiveness of personas and there have been criticisms about its validity as a scientific approach to research. This paper attempts to demonstrate how incorporating personas may lead to better understand the information needs of humanities scholars. Humanities scholars in an advanced ICT environment in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan are sampled as a case. Previous studies show that the humanities scholars have a significant negative relation with ICT use; they are using it less than scientists and social scientists, and they demonstrate a significantly higher use of library facilities than other academics. There is also a lack of up-to-date international research on the humanities scholars' information needs that takes into account recent rapid increases in the availability of ICT infrastructure, especially the Internet. As such, the objective of this study is to understand the information needs of humanities scholars and the effect of the electronic environment on their information seeking behaviour using personas. This study is conducted within a conceptual framework based on an integration of existing models of information-seeking behaviour, along with additional new elements representing the information context environment, such as languages, decision to seek and format of information resources. The four personas that were uncovered in this study may be able to effectively communicate the actual information needs of the humanities scholars through the personal narrative, name, and face, which continuously will remind the academic library of what their users really want and need from their services. This study also lays the foundation for future research by identifying variables of interest, and building construct validity through the themes of information needs that emerged.

Research Information Literacy: Addressing Original Researchers' Needs

Information literacy for faculty, doctoral students and other research-based graduate students, post-docs, and other original researchers is complex. There are fundamental differences between the processes of inquiry used by original researchers as compared to students or even faculty who are synthesizing information to find answers. Original research is different from information synthesis for discovery. Therefore, the information literacy processes to train and support those researchers are different. Analysis of the inquiry-oriented parts of the current and emerging information literacy Standards and Framework shows significant differences in the approach needed for teaching research information literacy. Promising instructional outcomes for information literacy training based around original research include gap analysis, theoretical and methodological discovery, and practical skills like funding search and analysis.

农民信息需求与农村信息服务研究综述：2008年以来

文章分析了2008年以来农民信息需求与农村信息服务主题下的175篇文献,在描述其基本概貌的基础上,从研究主题和研究方法两个维度进行深入分析。结论发现：相关研究数量显著增长并稳定发展,研究重要性得到凸显;研究主题逐渐多元化,但依然相对集中;研究以描述性研究和定性研究为主,研究规范程度有待提高。

从"文献资源"发展为"信息资源",反映了图书馆工作方向的转变,但这种转变首先应是观念的转变.只有提高图书馆学者与图书馆员的信息素质,包括信息意识与能力,才能从理论上和政策上正确把握图书馆的发展路向,真正实现信息资源共享.     

民族智慧社区信息系统协同治理模式研究——基于需求层次理论

我国民族社区城镇化进程的加快使其治理环境日益复杂,社区不同治理主体、各个部门为了提高治理效率纷纷建立了各自为政的信息系统,却呈现出重复建设、交叉混乱的状态,消耗了大量人力物力和财力。文章以民族社区居民的需求层次为基础,以智慧社区构建为切入点,以社区管理协同为治理模式,将民族社区的民生信息、政务信息、商务信息与服务信息进行关联,提出了民族智慧社区的健康、安全、社交、政务、商业、教育、智能等方面信息融合的系统治理模式,从而为社区管理部门、社区服务机构与社区居民架起了互联互通的桥梁。     

论用户信息需求的表达

用户的信息需求具有主观性和认识性,存在着客观状态、认识状态和表达状态.用户信息需求的表达取决于用户的认知能力、表达能力、用户对服务系统的信任度和用户表达需求的途径、手段及环境.用户信息需求的表达和接收可以分解为三个要素:语用主体即用户和服务人员、语境和语用主体所使用的话语实体.     

Post-Master's Educational Needs of Information Professionals

ABSTRACT

This study investigated the post-master's educational needs and interests of information professionals. The population for the study consisted of members of the library associations of Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, and Ontario, Canada. About 78 percent of the respondents held a master's degree in library science, 22 percent a master's degree in another discipline, almost 1 percent was enrolled in a doctoral program, 1 percent possessed a doctorate, and 16 percent had some other degree. Given the choice of an LIS only doctoral program or one combined with the field of business administration or computer science, the participants expressed a slight preference for the LIS only program. Of the other fields suggested by participants, education and public administration were the most popular. Participants also expressed a strong preference for non-traditional modes of instruction.     

International Student Perceptions of Information Needs and Use

This study examines international student information needs and whether education level, age, and gender affect their information use. An e-mail survey revealed that international students need information that supports their academic courses, and those with higher education levels use databases, remote access to library offerings, and e-journals more frequently.
