回顾王重民先生创办信息管理系的经过,介绍先生在北大信息管理系前身(图书馆学 系)讲授的部分课程,最后谈笔者的两点认识。     

国内外学术期刊刊登作者简介情况对比分析

通过对国内外学术期刊刊登作者简介情况的对比分析,发现刊登论文作者简介是国内外学术期刊的普遍做法,但侧重的内容却截然不同,因而提出如下建议:1)作为科学技术信息载体和传播工具的学术期刊,应该刊登作者简介;2)刊登作者简介的内容除现有要素外,还应尽量刊登通信作者的联系方式,以便与国外接轨,便于交流;3)刊登作者简介要"以人为本",要充分保护作者的隐私权,尊重作者的个人意愿,建议与作者签订一个意向书.

分析了数字资源长期保存的现状和发展趋势,简要介绍了OAIS及其参考模型,探讨了国内外数字资源长期保存的技术策略。     

Sources of information on medical geography

Adequate research in the peripheral field of medical geography requires familiarity with the literature of medicine, geography, and other environmentally oriented fields. The pertinent literature of the two primary disciplines, as well as that of anthropology, nutrition, and human bioclimatology, is surveyed from a bibliographical point of view. A brief review of historical sources is presented, followed by a discussion of the contemporary organizations, both international and national, active in the field. Emphasis is placed on the publishing programs and projects, maps, atlases, symposia, reports, and other literature sponsored or stimulated by these organizations. Regional bibliographical surveys for East Africa, India, and the Soviet Union are also noted. Pertinent aspects of bibliographies, indexes, abstracts, library card catalogs and accession lists, and other resources are listed, with emphasis on the various subject headings and other approaches to them. Throughout, the sources of information are approached from a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary viewpoint.     

The Black Women Oral History Project

The article first describes the origins, development, and procedures of the Black Women Oral History Project at the Schlesinger Library, Radcliffe College. This is followed by a brief history of "Women of Courage," a traveling photographic exhibition based on the project.     

The Impact of the Internet on Communication Among Reference Librarians

The primary purpose of this article is to begin to, explore the effects of electronic media and the Internet on communication among reference librarians. We present a brief summary of the literature on communication bv librarians. followed bv a discussion of electronic media and theiieffect on human com~unication. In order to exolore these issues in the context of reference librarians. we discuss re'sults of a survey on their communication habits, electronic and otherwise. In order to see how librarians actually use listservs, the contents of BI-L, LIBREF-L, and PACS-L are categorized by type of message and analyzed in the context of computer-mediated communication. Conclusions are given.     

Trials and Triumphs in the Polish Book Trade Since 1989

ABSTRACT

After a brief look at the Polish book trade under communism, the article examines developments since communism's collapse in late 1989, concentrating on monographs. The initial mushrooming of publishers was followed in 1992 by the failure of Sk?adnica Ksi?garska as the monopoly book distributor. Since then, a number of private wholesalers have emerged; publishers are also distributing their out-put themselves. The system is now working well for the majority of publications. However, it is often not particularly effective for scholary books. Reasons, consequences, and tactics for coping are discussed.

National security controls,information, and communication in the United States

National security controls on information and communication in the United States arise from a variegated body of Executive Branch measures, statutes, and court decisions, as well as shifting opinions concerning the application of such authorities. After a discussion of the current national security atmosphere in the country, a brief history of Federal controls will be followed by an in-depth presentation of the current framework of controls on information and communication. Lastly, this review concludes with a discussion of the major implications of current conditions upon constitutional rights and democratic values in the United States.     

The Need For Networks Among Public,Academic, and School Libraries in Metropolitan Sierra Leone

Metropolitan Sierra Leone is made up of Freetown, the capital city and its environs. Within its bounds are dispersed a variety of libraries, each with the mission of providing adequate, relevant and up‐to‐date materials tailored to the needs of their numerous clientele. However, because of stringent budget cuts and a lack of human and material resources, these institutions are unable to carry out their missions. One way to improve this situation is through collaboration in the provision of materials and services. This article explores the need for the establishment for networks among public, academic and school libraries in metropolitan Sierra Leone. The article begins by defining metropolis followed by a brief recounting of some features of a metropolis, the library scene in metropolitan Sierra Leone and a consideration of plausible areas for networks among these libraries. The article concludes with a discussion of some issues that have to be faced if the proposed network is to materialise.

韩应陛是清代咸丰年间大藏书家,由于可征文献很少,加之通行的几种韩氏藏书目录颇为简略,人们对其人其事所知无多。本文以整理点校邹百耐纂《云间韩氏藏书题识汇录》一书为基础,不仅从独自视角对韩氏及其藏书的面貌作大致介绍,更就与之相关的两部尚未公开发表的稿本《读有用书斋藏书志》与《云间韩氏藏书题识汇录》进行分析研究,较为充分地揭示了《云间韩氏藏书题识汇录》的固有功用与价值。
