SUMMARY

Librarians need to embrace marketing and promotion to better understand customers' needs and to communicate with them regarding the services libraries offer. This chapter discusses basic marketing concepts and adapts them to the non-profit library environment. The marketing process, including the development of a marketing plan and the utilization of the marketing mix to develop tactics for promoting library services, is reviewed. The chapter lays the groundwork for subsequent articles, where authors employ these promotional techniques to develop and implement successful campaigns for promoting electronic resources.  相似文献

Digital reference service adds a valuable new dimension to health science reference services, but the road to implementation can present questions that require carefully considered decisions. This article incorporates suggestions from the published literature, provides tips from interviews with practicing academic health science librarians, and reports on data from students' exploration of academic health science library Web sites' digital reference services. The goal of this study is to provide guidelines to plan new services, assess user needs, and select software, and to showcase potential benefits of collaboration and proactive and user-friendly marketing. [目的/意义]针对当前阅读推广案例活动普遍存在的数量多而质量良莠不齐的现状,引入服务营销组合理论,指导图书馆更好地开展阅读推广活动。[方法/过程]将服务营销组合理论中各个关键要素重新加以整合,形成适合广西科技大学图书馆"微书评"具体案例的"7P"服务营销组合策略,即服务产品策略、服务价格策略、服务渠道策略、服务促销策略、图书馆内部营销策略、学生团队营销策略、效果评价策略。[结果/结论]通过实践和探索得出的结果显示,服务营销组合策略能够帮助图书馆明确阅读推广活动中各要素、各环节的内在联系与规律,更好地进行跨部门的合作与沟通;更有助于揭示阅读推广活动的共性和个性特征,从而提高阅读推广活动的质量,为阅读推广的实践与探索提供有益参考。  相似文献

Abstract

As distance education programs continue to grow, so do the services offered by libraries to the communities created by such programs. However, for these programs to be successful, the people that they are intended to serve need to be aware of the support and services available to them. Without such awareness, the services will go unused. Through a survey, the librarians at Emporia State University learned that making distant students aware of services was essential to the success of distance learning library services. Librarians discovered that creating a marketing plan to guide the marketing process was essential. This tool serves as a road map to visually illustrate the path from the conception of ideas to the realization of the marketing goals and objectives. This paper examines the process of writing a marketing plan and intends to illustrate how it can assist the library in marketing its services to a distant population.  相似文献

AIM: To present an overview of the concepts of marketing and to examine ways in which they can be applied to health libraries. METHODS: A review was carried out of literature relating to health libraries using LISA, CINAHL, BNI and Google. RESULTS: Marketing is seen as a strategic management activity aimed at developing customer relationships. Concepts such as the 'four Ps' (product, price, place and promotion), marketing plans, the marketing mix, segmentation, promotion and evaluation are identified and discussed in relation to health libraries. CONCLUSION: In increasingly complex health service and information environments, the marketing and promotion of library services is becoming more important if those services are to justify the resources given to them. Marketing techniques are equally applicable to physical and digital library services.  相似文献

In many respects the Outreach Program at Mississippi State University Libraries provides an excellent framework for the marketing of reference services and resources. It is often the close, long-term collaboration between academic faculty and reference librarians, however, that makes the discovery of crucial information needs possible. The development of marketing activities for an academic library as an outgrowth of an overall library strategic plan can assist in clarifying which key resources and services should be promoted and in developing the optimal activities for communicating their benefits. Marketing as an ancillary process to strategic planning can increase awareness and use of library resources and services among targeted user groups and can present a clear, consistent image to students, faculty, and administration as to what the library offers to the life of the university community and validate its continued funding. [目的/意义] 对英国图书馆与情报专家学会设立的"营销优秀奖"进行介绍和分析,旨在为我国图书馆营销发展提供借鉴。[方法/过程] 采用网络调查法和文献调查法,从历史沿革、设立目的、申请程序和奖励办法等方面介绍该奖项,重点分析其评审标准。[结果/结论] 该奖项的评审标准体系由营销的目标群体、营销目的与计划、营销内容、营销原则、营销策略和营销评价构成。对我国图书馆营销活动的启示包括:注重环境分析;设立营销部门,制定营销计划;明确营销的目标群体;确定营销目的;完善营销策略和进行营销评估。  相似文献

As it becomes increasingly difficult to demonstrate the worth of the library to the academic community, gate counts and usage statistics are no longer enough. Showing the impact the library has on the community requires planning new services with outcome measurement from the start. This article outlines a marketing strategy for launching a faculty book delivery service at the University of Central Florida's John C. Hitt Library using Fisher and Pride's (2006) Blueprint for Your Library Marketing Plan. It includes a review of relevant literature on marketing delivery services, service and marketing goals and outcomes, target audiences, marketing messages, message delivery strategies, marketing budget, and management of staff responsibilities. This article is the second in a series of three articles that together make up an entire project planning and management document that is based on Rhea Rubin's (2006) Outcome Measurement model. Abstract

Texas A&M University Libraries has been testing virtual reference services since February 2004, but during the fall semester 2005, the Libraries began implementing and actively promoting the services to various target groups. Distance education students were identified as a primary target group for virtual reference services, and as of the fall semester 2005, approximately 1,600 students were enrolled in 190 distance education classes. This paper presents the Libraries plan for promoting virtual reference services to distance education students and faculty and for evaluating the plan.  相似文献

In most academic libraries, reference librarians are confronted with increasing patron demands for online database searching. Since this type of service requires unique skills and expertise, there is also demand for librarians who can provide traditional reference service integrated with online searching. This article will examine five critical factors which must be considered for successful functioning of search analysts as reference librarians: professional training, background knowledge and working experience in reference services, personality characteristics and interpersonal skills, the marketing of online services, and patron evaluations supplemented by postsearch reference assistance.  相似文献
