The Career Planning and Placement Office at the University of Michigan designed and implemented a career information gopher as part of its move toward a 24-hour office. This article investigates conceptual issues regarding the organization and delivery of information in the career area. It also reviews the process of arranging career information for electronic delivery, integrating customer service and information provision concerns with the advantages and limitations of the gopher structure and format, and planning for ongoing maintenance of the gopher information.  相似文献

图书馆员职业幸福是图书馆组织创新与和谐发展的关键。近年来的调查研究表明,图书馆员职业幸福感现状不容乐观。图书馆员职业幸福管理具有鲜明的时代特色,有利于实现馆员的幸福最大化和组织的可持续发展。图书馆员的幸福管理可以通过幸福管理机制来实现,包括信息采集和评估机制、能力开发和培养机制、需求和保障机制以及沟通和反馈机制,各部分管理机制功能不同,互相联系,可有效促进职业幸福管理活动的开展。  相似文献

As more job searchers use the Internet and on-line services, librarians and career services professionals will play a greater role in educating clients about the ethical implications of an electronic job search. In this study, "electronic privacy" will be defined, and laws which govern electronic security as well as reactions to those laws will bc reviewed. Corporate policies on employee electronic accounts will be discussed. Every college or university has resources on career development available somewhere, and frequently in more than one place. Too often, however, students do not know where those resources are located. Even more often, once they have found the resources, students do not know how to use them effectively in either career planning or the job search. The Career Center Library (CCL) at Indiana State University has proved to be an innovative solution to this problem. Located in the Career Center, one block from the University's main library, the CCL is considered to be a satellite of the ISU Libraries system. The Career Center librarian is a member of the library faculty who has been funded by and assigned to the Student Services Division of the University to provide both reference and collection development services for the Division. Support is available through ISU Libraries and therefore, access to information resources is enhanced. CCL resources are easily accessible through ISU Libraries' online catalog. This chapter will discuss the development of the Career Center Library at ISU and will illustrate special developments which arose during the process of its organization.  相似文献

Many libraries are currently experiencing a transition from printed to electronic collections. This transition has led to changes in collection development practices as well as in the roles of information professionals who facilitate access to information. Roles of librarians in both public and technical/access services are converging. There is a demand for a new breed of librarians who understand the entire electronic information scenario: procurement, organization, access and public services. All these come into play when making decisions and choices for meeting users’ information needs. Libraries are addressing such issues as ownership versus access, consortial access to electronic resources, licensing and authentication, surrogate versus full-text electronic resources, and integration of free Web content into collections. Librarians are challenged to embrace new ways of optimizing access to electronic resources and to explore ways to fit new technologies and innovations into traditional library structures and practices.  相似文献

The Internet is becoming a key player in the provision of career, job, and employment information, though it is still being readied for prime time use. Libraries and career and job services are in a transitional phase that is leading to common use of the Internet. While there is a sense of urgency to jump on the Internet bandwagon, professionals havc time to learn and assimilate this new electronic culture. This article presents a broad understanding of Internet development, discusses barriers to both learning and teaching the Internet, offers tips and methods for hurdling these barriers, and briefly describes some of the career job sites currently found on the Internet.  相似文献

SUMMARY

As the proliferation of electronic content continues, the need to get a better handle on how we communicate about the management of these resources has grown. In many instances, these processes and workflows have a basis in print resource workflow management. However, the discourse used to describe print resource management is not fully transferable to the management of electronic resources. With the rapid development of open-source software, ubiquitous acceptance of sophisticated integrated library systems, and emerging digital standards, new models for workflow and processing of electronic resources are emerging. Drawn from the discourse used in other disciplines, this paper explores ways to create a discourse of electronic resource management to better enable the development of a more universal management scheme for electronic resources.  相似文献

The American Association of Law Libraries (AALL) has advocated for years for the adoption of standards to authenticate online state primary legal material. AALL's advocacy led to the enactment of the Uniform Electronic Legal Material Act (UELMA), which, for the first time, provides a framework for and guidance about how state governments can ensure that their official electronic legal information is authenticated, preserved, and permanently accessible to the public. This article provides a brief history of the development of UELMA as context for the argument that the adoption of standards related to the authentication of electronic state legal resources can be considered a social justice issue, particularly for pro se litigants. This article argues that states should adopt UELMA to ensure that these vulnerable users of legal information have access to authentic and trustworthy electronic versions of the laws that govern them.  相似文献

[目的/意义] 以开放获取期刊采集服务体系GoOA建设为契机,研究和实践开放资源的组织和再利用方式。[方法/过程] 基于当前开放资源的发展特点,分析开放资源的5种组织和再利用模式及其特征,并在GoOA建设中实践。[结果/结论] 采用信息组织方式和数据组织方式,GoOA构建开放获取期刊和论文的内容集成发现体系,提供面向不同用户的开放获取期刊再利用特色服务。开放资源的组织和再利用研究,将为图书馆传统资源建设工作带来转型思考,有必要在开放资源建设整体工作中重点关注。  相似文献

[目的/意义]针对电子舞曲数字资源急剧增长带来的资源组织与检索需求匹配度低的问题,尝试构建电子舞曲信息资源检索需求模型,以指导新网络环境下的电子舞曲信息资源组织实践活动。[方法/过程]通过对国内主流电子舞曲音乐平台的检索实验,得出电子舞曲检索需求访谈提纲,进而运用扎根理论探究电子舞曲听众的音乐信息检索需求并建构相应的信息检索需求模型。[结果/结论]研究发现,电子舞曲听众的需求具有"成长性",这种"成长性"连接了听众音乐信息检索需求的审美主体(听众)和审美客体(音乐)两个维度,而促生该"成长性"的内因是信息需求的马太效应。研究指出电子舞曲的资源组织需兼顾主观感受、外部描述、内容要素和生产过程等核心维度,为新网络环境下电子舞曲信息资源组织提供了参考依据。  相似文献

Interest in using electronic mail as a basis for reference service has grown considerably in recent years. This paper reviews some of the specific uses reported in the professional literature. In addition, it considers the more sophisticated capabilities of mail systems operating in compliance with the Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions (MIME) and how systems supporting the interchange of complex, socalled "multimedia" documents may be expected to affect the use of electronic mail for library and information services.  相似文献
