Abstract Library instruction about reference materials, databases, and quality web sites never goes out of fashion for students, faculty, or staff. An annual professional development program on the Colorado State University campus offers an opportunity to provide specialized library instruction to targeted faculty and staff members. For two consecutive years, the authors offered a workshop called “«Find it Fast»: Research Tips for People in a Hurry.” Using a standardized assessment tool, attendees were asked to rank their level of satisfaction with various aspects of the instruction session. By evaluating and incorporating this feedback, the authors modified and enhanced the workshop's format and content. Higher levels of user satisfaction are achieved in the second year, along with recommendations to continue and broaden the workshop. 相似文献

This article describes a report on British University Libraries published in December 1993. Although already dated in terns of its appearance, its recommendations have implications for academic librarianship which will only be fully felt and truly appreciated by the end of the century. The report is discussed in the context of British university libraries, their funding and relationship with their parent bodies, so that its full impact can be understood. The recommendations amount to an injection of some f200 million into the system aimed at protecting traditional librarianship on the one hand and promoting the new technology on the other. The report made the radical assumption that there will be some universities which only teach and some which cany out teaching and research, supported respectively by "access" and "holdings" libraries. It foresaw no immediate change in the pattern of traditional librarianship but its discussions and recommendations on publishing, on the access, transfer and storage of infonation, on the all-embracing role of Information Technology, leave little room for the status quo in the new millennium. The committee members were representative of scholarship both from within and from outside the university system with librarians clearly in the minority. The recommendations have virtually all been accepted by the Funding Councils which commissioned the report. 相似文献

The John F. Kennedy Memorial Library at California State University, Los Angeles (CSULA), collaborated with the CSULA Student Support Program and the Educational Opportunity Program in an innovative attempt to increase visibility and use of library resources and services by at-risk students enrolled in the 2005 Summer Bridge Program. Workshops were held for tutors, study group leaders, and writing instructors associated with the Summer Bridge. Assessment of the program was conducted through a survey of workshop participants. Writing instructors and tutors were overwhelmingly positive in their response to the workshop, but study group leaders were more evenly divided in their assessment of the workshop's utility, which suggests that alumni of the Summer Bridge Program may benefit from additional instructional support services. 相似文献

A full bibliography on one of the most active areas of broadcasting —CATV—is long overdue. Don Le Duc originally prepared this compilation while working on his doctorate at the University of Wisconsin. It is based on an extensive clipping file collected by Kenneth Lichty of India, California, and by the author's major professor, Lawrence W. Lichty of the University of Wisconsin. Support for completing the collection came, in part, through a fellowship awarded by the Department of Communication Arts and a travel grant from the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences of the University of Wisconsin. Dr. Le Duc is a member of the State of Wisconsin and United States Supreme Court Bars, and is on the publications committee of the Federal Communications Bar Association and the communications committee of the American Bar Association. Formerly on the faculty of the University of Maryland, he will be assistant professor in the Department of Speech at the Ohio State University starting this fall. 相似文献

This paper describes the formula for fund distribution used at Western Illinois University. The primary intentions are to explain why the formula approach was adopted at Western, how it is set up, and how the decision to allocate by formula affects collection development. A large portion of the information is taken from the final report of an ad hoc committee established to review the Library's materials budget and recommend changes to existing policies. ABSTRACT The Military Installation Voluntary Education Review (MIVER) assesses the quality of selected on-base higher education programs and assists in the improvement of such programs through recommendations to the institutions and the military services. This poster relates the experience of one librarian's participation in such a review of the master's degree program in adult education offered by Kansas State University at Ft. Leavenworth. Topics covered include: the librarian's role in preparing the self-study document; steps taken to gather information; collaboration with responsible administrators/faculty members; pre-visit telephone interview with a site inspector; attending the actual site visit; and recommendations from the site team. Shared highlights and benefits specific to this librarian's experience include: developing a better working relationship with the teaching faculty; implementing a new method of reaching the students; gaining new knowledge of library services needed by this particular group of distance students; exploring opportunities for further activities; and reviewing outcomes and commendations received from the MIVER team. 相似文献

Commercial document suppliers are used by many libraries, usually to supplement interlibrary loan services. Wichita State University (WSU) offers a document delivery service, EbscoDoc™, directly to faculty members. Faculty order documents online and receive them from EbscoDoc™ without library mediation. The process of evaluating document delivery services is described. The library’s experience in establishing a document delivery service, training users, and keeping usage statistics is also discussed. Data from 18 months of use were collected and analyzed. A survey of WSU’s registered EbscoDoc™ users was conducted and those results are presented and discussed here. 相似文献

ABSTRACT In these times of growing journal prices and shrinking budgets, alternative methods of information access are a necessity. Document delivery services have become an important alternative to providing information access beyond traditional interlibrary loan services. This article analyzes the effect the “unmediated” EbscoDoc document delivery service had on traditional interlibrary loan in a medium sized academic library. Access to the service was provided to faculty members at Wichita State University for a period of approximately two years. Use of the service varied from faculty members who ordered one article to the “super” users who ordered from 100 to 400 documents. This study indicates that while the few “super” users had a strong impact on document delivery, the presence of the EbscoDoc service did not reduce the use of interlibrary loan as the majority of the registered faculty continued to use traditional interlibrary loan. 相似文献

AbstractIn July 2017 the California State University system of twenty-four libraries started an unmediated interlibrary loan service for print materials, known as CSU+. This paper examines four years of interlibrary loan data, from two years before CSU+’s launch to two years after, to explore the impact of the new service on interlibrary loan usage. University librarians at the University at Albany, State University of New York (SUNY), in response to a new requirement for an information literacy component in the University's general education program, formed a committee to create a credit course. The committee was able to work collaboratively and cohesively to quickly create a successful and flexible information literacy course.
