Incivility and Dysfunction in the Library Workplace: Perceptions and Feedback from the Field

Issues associated with lack of civility, less than ideal functionality, and employees that may not self-reflect as much they should are all challenges in the modern workplace and libraries are no exception. The purpose of this study was to determine which issues associated with a lack of civility such as mobbing, bullying, workplace dysfunction, and lack of abilities regarding self-reflection were found in the library workplace and to what extent. The data represents the feedback of 4,168 library employees through a self-reporting survey instrument designed by the authors with the help of the American Library Association. Data is both quantitative and qualitative and seeks to examine the issues addressed across all types of libraries. While useful for all library employees, this study and report are especially relevant to the modern library administrator.

汕头市图书馆共享图书室的实践与对策

汕头市图书馆借用"换客"概念,建立共享图书室,为读者搭建捐书、换书的共享平台,实现书籍循环利用。共享图书室注重社会宣传,采用人性化管理,满足读者"天天换书日"需求,弥补图书馆馆藏文献资源不足问题。共享图书室应充分发挥文化志愿者作用,参与社区文化建设,推动全民阅读,确保共享图书室良性发展。     

数字图书馆在非物质文化遗产保护中的价值及版权问题研究

我国许多珍贵的非物质文化遗产正在逐渐变得鲜为人知,甚至遭遇濒临灭绝的危险。鉴于这种状况,图书馆应该承担起保护非物质文化遗产的责任。但是,数字图书馆在数字化存储、网络化传播非物质文化遗产等过程中不可避免地要牵涉到非物质文化遗产持有人或传承人的版权问题。基于此,文章分析了数字图书馆在非物质文化遗产保护中的价值和其中的版权问题,并提出了数字图书馆遵循的原则、建立土著文化协议和利用特别权利保护非物质文化遗产的版权策略,以期激起数字图书馆保护非物质文化遗产的职责意识,并推动非物质文化遗产保护立法的出台。     

主题图书馆建设中的若干问题与发展思考

主题图书馆是公共图书馆事业发展新时代的产物,从满足人民群众的基本文化需求提升到高品质的文化需求;从解决普遍均等服务的普通公共图书馆总分馆到解决专门服务的公共主题图书馆,主题图书馆的功能价值在不断彰显。目前主题图书馆建设中存在一些问题和误区,应当重点解决。今后,主题图书馆要走体系化发展道路和文旅融合发展道路;要加强主题资源建设,发展"主题+"模式;要将主题图书馆纳入公共图书馆总分馆制建设之中,在公共图书馆"十四五"规划中重点发展。要优化主题图书馆的科学布局,形成主题图书馆总分馆体系,让更多的地方、更多的市民享受到就近的主题图书馆服务。     

Challenges and strategies to attain leadership positions for female library professionals: A narrative review

This literature review analyzes the literature on female librarians, focusing on the workplace challenges and issues they face and the skills and strategies required to create a workplace conducive to learning and scholarship and seizing leadership opportunities. A narrative review of the relevant literature was undertaken. Publications from five major scholarly databases (Scopus, Web of Science, LSA, LISTA, and LISA) were chosen for this review. A comprehensive search query was performed and all pertinent records were downloaded and imported into Endnote Software. Finally, the relevant 23 studies were selected for this review. The included articles were published between the range of 1996–2021 and most of the articles were published in 2021 (n = 08). The findings revealed that the fundamental challenges for female library professionals were related to administrative, financial and skills issues, gender discrimination, societal and cultural norms, lack of research and scholarly contributions, and harassment in the workplace. The skills and strategies needed to create a better and congenial workplace for the female library professionals were a positive workplace culture, financial benefits, empowerment and gender equality, mentoring and skills development, work-life balance, and active involvement in research and scholarship. The practical, policy and social implications are presented.     

Addressing sexual harassment in a sexually charged national culture: a Journal of Applied Communication Research forum

Sexual harassment remains a persistent workplace problem. The 2017 #Metoo movement and what-have-come-to-be routine news stories about sexual hostility, sexual assault, and sexual harassment in American organizations have opened wounds and reinvigorated public commentary. Although the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission sets forth guidelines for organizations to follow, questions remain about what counts as sexual harassment, and what is an organization’s responsibility in maintaining a harassment-free workplace for its employees. At the invitation of the editor, seven organizational communication scholars responded to a series of questions addressing seven issues related to sexual harassment. These are: sexual harassment policy and training; the responsibilities of bystanders of sexual harassment; organizational culture that provides more support to the harasser than the harassed; the intersection of race with sexual harassment; same-sex harassment and female-to-male harassment; and what can be learned from public movements (e.g. #Metoo). The co-authors’ responses describe sexually harassing situation with which they are familiar.

[目的/意义]将图书馆放在现阶段消费时代的背景下,考察图书馆面临转型和定位的深层次文化背景。[方法/过程]立足于文献梳理上的理论分析法,在分析过程中认为图书馆的研究重心应该转向对图书馆在整个社会文化体系中的作用和影响的梳理,尤其是图书馆作为文化品牌的空间建构。[结果/结论]在泛娱化的语境下,图书馆逃离不开消费主义的影响,从文化普及和用户参与的角度来讲,现阶段的图书馆消费文化空间不再只是"被消费"的空间,而是具备了"再生产"的功能。图书馆要正视自身的文化自觉性,拓展和重塑图书馆的文化主体地位。

指出图书馆“保存文化遗产”职能说的不完整性;界定图书馆整合文化职能的深刻内涵;并通过对图书馆有关职能传统说法的阐释,分析图书馆整合文化职能的价值取向;阐明整合文化才是表征图书馆“保存”社会职能的科学说法。     

国际文化关系中的图书馆

Libraries as a type of cultural institutions have sustained their role as bridges interrelating people of different nations and promoting mutual understanding of them. They also broaden the nation s influence in international affairs. The basic activities of them are of 2 ways: 1) The direct way of starting overseas library programs, and 2) Participation of libraries at home in projects of international cultural exchanges and co-operation. These activities are subject to various aspects of politics, technology and culture,especially the political one which serves directly the foreign policy of the government.This is also the library's main feature in international cultural realtions.International organizations play an important role in this field.

选取美国图书馆协会及其10个子协会的战略规划文本为调查对象,分析其战略规划的制定、内容、实施与评估等方面,总结美国各图书馆协会战略规划的特点,分析中美两国图书馆行业组织战略规划的差异,提出美国图书馆行业组织战略规划对我国的启示。     

公共图书馆文旅融合服务创新模式和发展路径研究

随着国家文化和旅游机构改革的顺利进行,公共图书馆作为公共文化机构,能够并且应该为文旅融合作出贡献。本文梳理了国内外有关图书馆文化旅游的研究现状,分析了图书馆参与到文旅融合中的意义,总结并提出了图书馆参与到文旅融合中的实践模式和发展路径,为以后的相关研究和实践提供参考。
