Looking Back on Ten Years of the Idea of SEEIR

ABSTRACT

The seventh annual meeting of the Russian Library Association took place in Iaroslavl' from 12–18 May 2002. It included an exhibit at which 61 publishers and other companies and organizations participated. There were sessions on automation, standardized electronic cataloging, bibliography, library policy and legislation, national libraries of the subjects of the Russian Federation, and much more. The next annual meeting will be held in Pskov.     

Jubilee Conference in Honor of the Eighty-Fifth Anniversary of the Russian Book Chamber

ABSTRACT

The jubilee conference in honor of the 85th anniversary of the Russian Book Chamber (RBC) consisted of three parts: the 10th International Conference on Issues of Bibliology, a conference of the Association of Book Chambers, and a ceremonial session. The bibliology conference, the most important part, included discussion of such pressing problems as the decline of reading and book-buying in Russia, the difficulty of distributing books outside of Moscow and St. Petersburg, and the problems caused by lack of modern equipment in printing establishments. But progress has also been made, e.g., the RBC's establishment of a single information platform for all participants in the book trade.

Russian Digital Collections in North America: A Survey

This article discusses an inventory of Russian digital collections that was gathered from publically available material on the Web in 2011. It touches on the opportunities and difficulties that come with the increase of digital material on the Web and how librarians can attempt to bring smaller collections to the attention of scholars and researchers.     

Library Services to Multicultural Communities: Russian Best Practice

Russia is a very diverse country with many ethnic groups, religions, and languages, including not only indigenous groups but also migrants and refugees. The author, chair of the Russian Library Association's roundtable Library Services to Multicultural Populations, writes about how Russian libraries are working to serve these populations, following guidelines issued by IFLA and UNESCO. She particularly singles out the Sverdlovskaia oblastnaia mezhnatsional'naia biblioteka [Sverdlovsk Oblast Inter-Nation Library] in Ekaterinburg, capital of the Ural Federal District. It seeks to preserve and develop the cultures of the Urals peoples and has become a cultural, educational, and methodological center for multicultural issues for other Ural libraries.

Research and Development Work at the Russian Book Chamber: Results and Prospects

ABSTRACT

The Russian Book Chamber (RBC, Rossiiskaia knizhnaia palata) is Russia's national bibliographic center. In addition to compiling the many series of the national bibliography, it also publishes two scholarly journals and prepares periodic reports about book publishing and distribution in Russia as a whole and in her separate regions. The RBC has been undergoing many changes, including modernizing its telecommunication infrastructure, updating its capability to provide information in electronic format, setting standards, working with other agencies to prevent piracy, redistributing responsibilities between itself and the regional book chambers, creating bibliographical formats compatible with those of other countries, etc.     

中华图书馆协会研究综述

通过对目前有关中华图书馆协会的研究论文进行统计分析发现,仅有1篇总论型论文,分论型论文多以中华图书馆协会成立的社会背景、历史意义及其与新图书馆运动和中华教育改进社的关系、知名学者对于中华图书馆协会成立及发展的作用等为研究主题。有关中华图书馆协会的研究正确评价了其作用及价值,拓展了图书馆学研究领域,但仍存在研究有待学界充分重视、研究角度和层次单一、研究材料的来源范围狭窄、综合研究方法缺失等问题,因此有必要重新对中华图书馆协会进行系统、全面的深入研究。

Pre-Revolutionary Russian Photography at the New York Public Library: An Introduction

ABSTRACT

This article is an introduction to the New York Public Library’s pre-revolutionary Russian and Eastern European photographic albums. It also provides a checklist of these albums. The checklist is an especially rich source for Russian architecture, art, and science and provides documentation for a variety of places in the center and provinces of the Russian Empire. Some of the most significant albums are those once owned by the Romanovs and by George Kennan the elder, America’s first Russian expert.

Academic Digital Libraries Russian Style: An Introduction to The Fundamental Digital Library of Russian Literature and Folklore

SUMMARY

This article provides an overview of The Fundamental Digital Library of Russian Literature and Folklore (FEB-web). The intersection of philology and information technologies at FEB-web is considered in the context of Russian culture and the Russian academy. Topics discussed include: the FEB-web process for creating digital scholarly editions, the structure of FEB-web, new developments in the FEB-web collections, plans for the future, copyright issues, digitization processes, inter-library cooperation, and the place of digital libraries in constructing civil society in Russia.     

图学史卷 时代华章——《中华图书馆协会会报》研究

《中华图书馆协会会报》由中华图书馆协会创办于1925年,停刊于1948年,是民国期间存续时间最长的图书馆学刊物。该刊有五个常设栏目,其载文数量与我国图书馆学期刊的发展阶段特征相吻合,其中载文最多的主题集中在各类型图书馆、外国图书馆事业和图书馆业务工作三个方面。该刊对于中华图书馆协会的会务工作,对当时的图书馆学术研究和图书馆事业的发展等方面均起到了非常积极的推动作用,是我国图书馆发展史上的时代华章。

图书馆社会责任研究2010年度报告

2010年图书馆社会责任研究成果颇丰,研究者从理论研究、对策研究、案例研究等方面入手,研究了图书馆社会责任的含义、内容、与社会职能的关系、实施案例等内容,丰富了图书馆社会责任理论研究体系,为图书馆社会责任的践行提供了理论指导。今后,图书馆社会责任研究应横向扩展、纵向延伸,关注中外社会责任比较研究、社会责任与核心业务的整合以及图书馆社会责任的含义、底线、内容、激励机制等方面。     

Russian Publishers,the Media,and Government Interference in 2002: A Report to the Slavic Librarians' Workshop,University of Illinois,July 2003

ABSTRACT

During 2002 the Russian publishing industry and news media were under intense scrutiny, sometimes verging on assault, by government and pro-government groups. A new 20% value-added tax was an additional blow, although it was reduced to 10% in the middle of the year. Russian publishing appears to be healthy in spite of those problems, although statistics from the Russian Book Chamber (Rossiiskaia knizhnaia palata) are notoriously unreliable. Statistics on books carried by Russian Press Service give an approximate picture of scholarly book publishing.

俄罗斯国家数字图书馆的建设与发展

俄罗斯建设国家数字图书馆(НЭБ)有深刻的社会背景和现实需求,自2003年启动建设以来,НЭБ在数字资源建设与服务方面均取得了进展。2012年“国家社会政策实施措施”总统令的出台开启了НЭБ发展的新阶段,НЭБ研究新的发展构想,建设新门户网站,完善数字资源建设与服务模式。НЭБ建设具有世界水准,担负了重要的社会责任,在数字资源建设与发展方面呈现多馆参与、公众参与、分布式自建与存储、国家政策与资金保障、积极应对版权问题等特点,在数字资源建设方式,解决数字资源版权,建立保障机制等方面的做法值得关注和借鉴。图4。表4。参考文献73。
