Abstract

The paper describes succinctly the historical development of Indian health science libraries. With this background it illustrates the outcome of a study conducted for the purpose of assessing the strengths and weaknesses of prevalent health literature information services such as bibliographical, current awareness, selective dissemination of information, MEDLARS/MEDLINE, indexing and abstracting, translation and reprographic of 240 medical libraries belonging to modern medicine (allopathy system) and recommends the suitable steps to be undertaken to optimize the utilization of available resources and services.  相似文献

This paper is based on Helen Kiely’s Masters dissertation on MA in Library and Information Service Management, successfully completed at the University of Sheffield in 2018. The aim of the study was to explore the extent to which users of a health care library service understood common terminology used by clinical librarians/information professionals. A survey was developed based on the terminology used for common services and was distributed to staff and students at an acute NHS Foundation Trust. One hundred and eight people participated over a four week period and were asked to provide definitions to the terms. Analysis of the responses for accuracy and common themes indicates that jargon can be a barrier to user access and recommendations are made with respect to the need for outreach to users and the language used in this practice for creating better accessibility. ABSTRACT

‘Disability’; the ‘D’ word generally speaks its own meaning, as anyone who is different from others in terms of physical and mental impairment. There are various types of disabilities; broad categories such as physical and communication disability, mental illness and mental retardation, learning disabilities and so forth. In this article, an attempt has been made to describe the term ‘visual impairment’ which falls under the category of physical and communication disability. The next section of the article presents activities of the National Institute for the Visually Handicapped, Dehradun, India to make the visually impaired self-sufficient and to recognize the role played by the Institute in disseminating information to them.  相似文献

国外公共图书馆健康信息服务研究的内容主要包括:公共图书馆的角色和作用、实证研究、健康馆藏资源建设、参考咨询、对特殊群体的延伸服务、馆员培训及与其他机构的合作。而我国在这一领域的研究与国外相比存在着一定的差距,如研究历史较短,文献数量较少,研究内容较为单一,实证调查少,理论探讨多。公共图书馆如何为弱势群体提供健康信息服务,对某一地区公共图书馆健康信息服务情况进行较大规模的调查等,都是我国未来研究的发展趋势。  相似文献

Organizing reference services to use paraprofessionals as information providers can help academic libraries adapt to new technology, provide staff support for resource sharing, and assist reference librarians in developing new and enhanced roles on campus. It is a staffing alternative that can facilitate the integration and use of electronic reference resources, such as Online Catalogs, CD-ROM databases and end user searching by providing more assistance to users. Placing responsibility for teaching library clients how to use document delivery with the same staff who help users identify needed materials makes access easier for requestors, and resource sharing more readily accepted by students and faculty. And by separating Information and Research Support activities and sharing the workload between staff at different levels, reference librarians can provide an advanced level of research assistance, spend more time on support for faculty research collection development, classroom instruction, and the development and improvement of programs. Training of the paraprofessional staff and practice of the referral process are essential to the librarian-paraprofessional partnership this model requires. This article describes how paraprofessionals have been used in reference at a new academic library, and how the role of the reference librarian has been redefined as a result.  相似文献
