数字图书馆与数字档案馆之比较

作为国家信息资源系统建设的两个重要组成部分,数字图书馆和数字档案馆有着共同的研究领域和需要面对的问题。文章通过对二者的比较研究,提出了他们的相同点和不同点,为人们在网络环境下研究图书、档案的一体化建设提出了需要思考的问题。

保存数字文献的责任与制度

数字文献的保存已成为图书情报界极为焦虑的问题,许多国际组织和机构正在进行各种前瞻性的研究,力求制定出相关的战略和规范。OAIS模式正逐渐成为国际标准并被各国图书情报部门采用,其中有4项计划比较引人注目,它们是:CEDARS计划、NEDLIB计划、PANDORA计划和PRESERV计划。

Organization and technology for the recording of science

Scientific research requires access to earlier research results. Over time a system supporting scientific exchange has evolved where publishers, libraries and archives each have well‐defined institutional roles. New information and communication technologies are challenging the established order for the recording of science and alternative systems are evolving. A strong commercial market for STI coupled with decreased purchasing power on the part of libraries makes organizational issues as important as technological ones.

Technology and organizational change in libraries

Many influences on the organizational structure of libraries can be discerned, of which technology perhaps is the most pervasive. This paper discusses some of the ways technology is influencing organizational change in libraries and what can be done to direct these changes positively in a manner that will benefit libraries.     

广东省高校图书馆网络书目情报服务的调查与思考

对广东省25所本科院校图书馆的网络书目情报服务进行了调查与分析。针对存在的问题，从传统服务的继承与发扬、数字书目参考工具体系的建设、联合书目情报服务的正常化三个方面对高校馆网络书目情报服务进行了探讨。     

Converging libraries,archives and museums: overcoming distinctions,but for what gain?

Many within the information field have declared that libraries, archives and museums (LAMs) must collaborate or else face extinction. The convergence of these institutions marks the extreme of this movement, which is currently being driven by technological initiatives that seek to attract new, digitally engaged users. This paper presents some recent initiatives to bring these institutions together and explores the history of exchange between LAMs. Finally, a more pointed examination of archives in museums provides grounds to question the ability of technology to facilitate deep-rooted collaboration. This reading of the history of LAMs and their current challenges raises a concern that convergence is nothing more than a rebranding exercise, in which archives appear vulnerable to lose their defining characteristics.     

Nonprint Formats: A Survey of the Work and Its Challenges for the Cataloger in ARL Academic Libraries

ABSTRACT

Today's emphasis on developing nonprint-format collections in academic libraries mirrors advances in information technology. More new than old, these formats impact not only library planning, policy, and budgets, but also the training and the work of those who select, catalog, process, house, access, and circulate them. Results of this 33-item survey of nonprint catalogers in ARL academic libraries describe their demographic and professional background, their position, staffing for nonprint cataloging and processing, formats collected and bibliographic access provided, training and competency in and responsibilities for cataloging, work organizational and technical challenges, and career aspects.

基于数字环境下图书馆与档案馆在文化遗产保护与继承、公共信息服务提供、政府信息管理等方面职责的一致性,通过战略规划文本的内容,分析国际组织、美国、英国、加拿大等发达国家图书档案事业的结盟、合作、合并态势,综述评价了国外图书档案战略规划及合作的若干经验。主要包括:公共文化服务机构的共同愿景与职责的定位与认知;应对数字技术与文化变革挑战的强烈的职业使命感;内涵丰富且注重实施绩效的规划体系;作为公共文化服务机构的图书馆与档案馆的实质性结盟与合并。国外图书档案事业结盟与合作的经验可供中国借鉴。参考文献44。     

The Provenance of Archives Under Library Administration

Archives are frequently located administratively and physically in libraries. Based on the assumption that environment influences development the symbiotic relationship between libraries and archives is explored. Realities observed include: (1) the relationship is unequal with the library normally as parent, having greater resources a larger constituency, and more public visibility; and (2) administrative linkage is justifiable, but differences are substantial enough to produce numerous tensions. Placement of an archives in a library affects both. The necessity of organizational cohabitation does not obliterate the distinctiveness of each from the other.

The author reports on a visit to Athens, Greece, in September 2006 to visit book dealers, libraries, archives, and other institutions with which the Library of Congress has relations, for acquisitions and for collaborative projects in the areas of bibliographic control, microfilming, and digital projects.

Building electronic cooperation in the 1990s- the Maryland, Georgia, and Texas experiences

Large scale statewide library cooperation using information technology and wide area networks dates back to the early 1980s with efforts such as the Florida Center for Library Automation and, more recently, the LOUIS Project in Louisiana (see JAL January 1994) and OhioLink (see JAL September 1995). Early efforts were usually focused on the implementation of library information management systems and the provision of shared access to locally held collections, and they often still are. In the 1990s, though, we are witnessing a shift in statewide cooperative use of networks to provide principally access to bibliographic and full-text resources not held locally and usually provided by commercial vendors for use by libraries. As the case studies in this column illustrate the development of funding sources, the technical implementations and support, and the management organization differ from state to state. They reflect, though, the incremental shift in the information landscape towards “electronic libraries”. I choose the word incremental intentionally to reflect that this change has not (at least so far) been anywhere near as rapid or revolutionary as many expected. Nevertheless, what has happened in about 15 years is quite dramatic. It portends a different kind of academic library.—CBL, University of Maryland, College Park.

图书馆、博物馆、档案馆是当今社会重要的公共信息服务机构,电子数据质量是数字时代影响图博档信息服务水平的重要因素。分别从图博档的服务方式与内容的特点出发,研究与探讨了在图书馆、博物馆、档案馆中电子数据质量要求及具体的管理方法。较高的电子数据质量管理水平是图博档信息服务相融合的基础。     

What makes a “happy” workplace for librarians? Exploring the organizational functions of academic libraries in South Korea

Academic libraries are facing the need to closely examine the effectiveness of current organizational functions in response to rapid changes in technology and the information environment. The purpose of this study is to explore the functions and issues of the academic library organization in South Korea based on the librarians' perceptions. We conducted a literature review about the changes in the role of academic libraries and organizational functions. In-depth interviews with 19 librarians and a content analysis of those interviews were conducted. As a result, we identified organizational characteristics pertaining to 1) internal functions of the library, such as communication, leadership, motivation, and team system, and 2) external functions, such as collaboration with external administrative departments, and utilization of personal networks. We also discovered mutual relationships among the functions. In particular, leader's support is important to continuously motivate librarians and increase the effectiveness of the team system, resulting in a positive effect on the reputation of the academic library. This study contributes to the academic library literature by comprehensively and empirically exploring functions affecting the services of academic libraries.
