Libraries have always tried to identify the places their patrons visit and the tools they use to make sure they are fully serving these patrons. Since a high percentage of adults in the United States use some form of social media, libraries should be visible there too. This column offers guidelines and advice for implementing social media in the academic library in two areas: marketing and instruction. The guidelines will help library administrators plan, implement and assess social media campaigns in both areas and will ensure that valuable time and resources are not wasted.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Academic research libraries can employ several approaches to advance the institutional mission. First, libraries can shift from goals focused on collections and traditional library services and instead align with their campus academic plan and an emphasis on supporting the institution's strategic initiatives. A second approach is for libraries to modify their organizational structures from being function-based on the tasks that traditional libraries performed (e.g., public services, technical services, collection development) and move instead toward organizational units that directly support their university's missions (e.g., undergraduate education; graduate and professional education; research, scholarship, and creative activity; and public engagement). The key is to have library staff engaged in work that contributes to vital institutional outcomes such as student success and faculty research productivity. Academic research libraries should also continue to work towards an assessment program that demonstrates the value of the academic research library in providing quality services that advance the institutional mission.  相似文献

Building on experiences from earlier digital initiatives and partnerships, the University of Virginia has developed new services and forged new collaborations between traditional information technology and library units in support of changing approaches to science and engineering research and education. Over the past 4 years, the library has evolved through numerous service models, changes in institutional vision, and budgetary shortfalls and has emerged with a new understanding of where to invest resources and energy for coming challenges.  相似文献

[目的/意义]分析资源配置对高校科技产出的影响,有助于发现高校增强科技创新能力的着力点。[方法/过程]以新能源汽车产业为例,首先对我国在该产业领域的科技论文和专利产出总体情况进行分析;并将分析结果与车辆工程专业全国排名前10的高校的相关科研产出进行对比,根据对比结果,进一步分析这10所高校人力、经费、科技服务等方面的资源配置对其科技创新产出的推动和影响。[结果/结论]科技服务作为一种无形生产力,在推动科技产出、提升产业核心竞争力方面具有不可或缺的作用,尤其是以图书情报机构为主体开展的各种科技支撑服务。因此,在新经济常态下,面向产业创新提供支撑服务是今后高校图书馆服务国家创新战略的重要发展方向。  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The Harwood Institute arrived in Youngstown, Ohio, in 1999; and today, over 18 years later, its teachings have made a profound effect upon the city. The Youngstown Public Library, through the leadership of Carlton Sears and Heidi Daniel, has wholeheartedly embraced the methods and ideology of the Harwood Institute, helping to reinvigorate and power a city working its way back to prosperity.  相似文献
