Reservation and conservation have become vital issues in libraries. Two perspectives on these issues were presented at this workshop. Fran Wilkinson spoke about the new roles in function and staff training in the library bindery unit based on a survey of 108 ARL libraries. Jack Fairfield discussed the goals and objectives of commercial biders in the preservation of library materials. Each emphasized that libraries and commercial binders ate becoming more aware of the importance of this critical step in conservation and preservation of books, serials, and other paper documents for future use by scholars.  相似文献

iTunes University is a free service offered by Apple iTunes to educational institutions. It serves as a platform for the management and distribution of educational, instructional, and informational resources through both audio and video podcasts. Participation in the service among colleges and universities continues to grow since its official launch in 2007 as an official offshoot of the iTunes store. While several universities in the United States and Canada have established a presence on iTunes University, the involvement of the ARL members varies. This study surveys the presence of ARL academic libraries on iTunes University and the visibility of the library on the school's iTunes University page and examines the types of resources offered by participating libraries. It also highlights model participants as examples for other institutions and considers what implications future involvement in the service may hold for academic libraries.  相似文献

Academic libraries have long been trying to gain access to users through their favorite online spaces, such as social networking sites. In this article a project of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro's University Libraries, which integrated library resources with the campus course management system, Blackboard, is detailed. The main objective was to push the best resources to students based on their actual needs. For years, static HTML Web pages were created, but the proliferation of these pages required tremendous maintenance. In addition it is not certain that students are able to access the most relevant resources buried deep in the Web site. Because of these challenges, the Course Resources Tool and the Library Resources Portal were created to provide high levels of customization based on information that was gathered from users as they log into Blackboard. The tools have been customized so that subject specialist liaisons can integrate library resources at the major, department, course, and course section levels. Despite some difficulties in launching and promoting these projects, there has been positive feedback. There was also an increase in usage statistics that rivals the use of the library's main Web site. This article describes the tools, documents the difficulties with each phase of the project, and discusses the lessons learned. Also, a brief overview of possible expansions of the Blackboard Course Resources Tool and the Library Resources Portal is provided.  相似文献

The objective of the Starting Points Web page series at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UT HSC) Libraries is to provide specialized information resources in an organized online format. Highlighted resources include databases, journals, UT HSC campus information, funding sources, PubMed® RSS article feeds, and information about professional associations. Providing electronic resources for alumni requires careful consideration of a number of legal, technical, financial, and administrative questions by academic libraries. Our review of 115 library websites, including 114 academic library members of the Association of Research Libraries along with Stanford University, reveals in large part what is being made available to alumni and how the information is organized, but also raises more questions for investigation.  相似文献

对中国期刊网、万方数字化期刊为各入编期刊提供的网页的应用情况进行了调查,同时在新浪等门户网站上用"学报"等关键词进行检索,并点击检索结果,以了解我国期刊网页的现状.指出我国期刊网页存在缺乏个性、与作者和读者互动不够2大问题,认为编辑对期刊品牌效应认识不够是产生上述问题的主要原因.通过对几个成功网站的分析,认为合作办网,逐步建成专业期刊和行业信息互相依托、大学学报与大学科研信息互相依托的综合网站是建设特色期刊网站的发展趋势.  相似文献

Electronic library services and myriad online resources are shifting the roles and workloads of academic reference librarians. 阅读疗法对大学生心理健康影响的实验研究   总被引:3,自引:1,他引:3  
当前,大学生心理健康教育工作已受到社会各界广泛关注,心理学界关于心理健康教育的理论和实践的新成果不断涌现,这为我们开展阅读疗法的实验奠定了基础。本研究随机选取300名2005级大学生,运用《大学生心理健康量表》对他们进行集体测量,筛选出40名心理健康状况在轻微问题以上的大学生,对他们实施3个月阅读疗法的集体干预。研究结果表明:阅读疗法对大学生心理健康教育是有效的,能够对大学生心理健康产生显著影响,可以提高大学生心理健康水平。高校图书馆建立阅读疗法阅览室可以成为解决大学生心理健康问题的新途径。  相似文献
