Electronic Access to Reference Service (EARS) is a front end to the Health Sciences Library's electronic mail system, with links to the online public catalog. EARS, which became operational in September 1984, is accessed by users at remote sites with either a terminal or microcomputer. It is menu-driven, allowing users to request: a computerized literature search, reference information, a photocopy of a journal article, or a book. This paper traces the history of EARS and discusses its use, its impact on library staff and services, and factors that influence the diffusion of new technology.  相似文献

The relationship between the library and the information literacy movement is acknowledged, and a further delineation of responsibility at the academic reference service level is examined. Reference librarians' perspective enables them to serve as "information advisors," fostering students' development of information storage and retrieval, this role becomes increasingly important. The need for students to emerge as independent learners is crucial at this stage in their lives. Information literacy abilities are discussed as a by-product of general reference functions. Reference librarians are urged to encourage the growth of these abilities by stimulating students' understanding of critical thinking.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Updating her 2003 article in Reference Services Review (“The Future of Reference: Get Real!” Reference Services Review 3(1), 2003, 39–42, DOI: 10.1108/00907320310460898), the author emphasizes the need to get a good sense of what one's users’ priorities are, concentrating efforts on successful tools researchers will actually use; responding to changes that have taken place in research and scholarship; devising instruction for use in actual environments, spaces, and timeframes; focusing on local user needs; and working to influence user-centered design of library online systems.

To fill this gap, we introduce the concept of emotional labor to the library context, presenting a qualitative analysis of librarians' experiences. African-American reference books are often subject to exclusionary book reviewing practices. A sampling of 148 African-American reference titles published between 1980 and 1990 was selected from Nathaniel Davis' Afro-American Reference (1985), Rosemary M. Stevenson's Index to Afro-American Reference Resources (1987), and the "Current Bibliography" series compiled by the author for the Black American Literature Forum (1986-1991). Reviews of these materials were analyzed for recommendation statements, evaluative content, coverage of titles in the subject field, and duplication between reviewing media. These findings are compared to simliar studies to provide a theoretical context for analysis of criteria used by reviewers.  相似文献

[目的/意义] 通过量化计量指标对研究主题的知识扩散进行测度与分析,客观地展现研究主题所包含的知识单元的扩散路径及其扩散规律。[方法/过程] 以Web of Science(SCI-E&SSCI)数据库核心合集为数据来源,通过被引参考文献检索方法,以J.E. Hirsch 2005年首次提出H指数概念的文献为被引文献,检索2005-2015间引用该文献的施引文献,得到样本数据。借助信息可视化分析工具CiteSpace分别进行关键词共现与文献共被引分析。将分析结果通过本文所提出的双阶知识扩散度指标Q算法进行计算,得到指标Q量变情况,并进一步分析H指数研究领域的演化扩散状况。[结果/结论] H指数研究主题的知识扩散的相关性随着流动阶层的增加而降低;H指数研究主题一、二阶知识扩散文献的主要研究方向不同,二阶文献更侧重于应用领域的拓展,这也是该研究邻域知识流动的新增长点;通过对H指数研究主题的分析,证明了本文所提出的双阶知识扩散度指标Q的准确性及科学性。  相似文献

Chicago's Municipal Reference Library (MRL) is a busy governmental library which serves a two-fold public: it serves city employees (approximately 36,000 of them) as a special library and the public as a reference library. This creates problems for the reference librarian: remembering who receives which services, often "switching gears" while working under severe time constraints and with demanding patrons. Other problems arising from this dichotomy are discussed, special MRL resources and publications are described, and examples of some actual questions are included.  相似文献

清人汤文璐所编的《诗韵合璧》是近代最富影响的旧体诗写作辅助工具书。该书不仅汇辑了《词林典腋》《诗腋》《虚字韵薮》等多种书籍,而且还利用《诗韵异同辨》《诗韵音义注》等书籍对字、韵进行校勘、考正,最终熔诸书优长为一炉,具有较高的文献价值。《诗韵合璧》在体例取材等方面的鲜明特性,可从中窥得清代中晚期诗坛的某些时代特征与编选思想,对提升当下旧体诗写作的基础水平亦具有借鉴意义。  相似文献

以2000—2009年间LISA数据库收录的关于虚拟参考咨询的文献为研究对象,运用文献计量学方法,分别进行载文分析、著者分析、期刊分析和主题分析。基于这些分析,结合虚拟参考咨询产生的历史和发展的现状,提出在该领域研究的核心地区、核心作者和核心期刊,指出目前的研究重点,进而探讨未来该领域研究的发展方向,以期对国内的虚拟参考咨询研究提供借鉴。  相似文献
