ABSTRACT

The Missouri Developmental Disabilities Resource Center (MDDRC) is an information and referral service located within the Institute for Human Development (IHD) at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Through its varied informational services, including its website, the Missouri Developmental Disabilities Resource Center is helping to support the independence, productivity, integration and community inclusion of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.  相似文献

Abstract

The staff of the Management & Economics Library of the Krannert Graduate School of Management at Purdue University used group problem solving techniques developed by The Institute of Cultural Affairs (ICA) to redesign the floor plan of the circulation, periodicals, and reference areas of the library to best utilize the space. The ToPtm (Technology of Participation) planning process utilizes visualizing, brainstorming, and clustering of ideas. Its planning process consists of five workshops: mapping out the practical vision; analyzing the underlying contradictions; setting the strategic directions; designing the systematic action plan; and drawing up the implementation timeline. Each of these workshops is described in part one of this article. Part two describes the implementation of the changes and includes a list of changes, their associated costs, and goals they accomplished. The appendix includes before and after floor plans  相似文献

Nursing Reference Center is a point-of-care resource designed for the practicing nurse, as well as nursing administrators, nursing faculty, and librarians. Users can search across multiple resources, including topical Quick Lessons, evidence-based care sheets, patient education materials, practice guidelines, and more. The Business Resource Center represents the Aurora, Colorado Public Library's response to a tremendous growth within the business community over the past decade. This essay details what factors led to the decision that a separate service point was needed to meet this growth. Issues discussed include what statistical data proved helpful in developing a plan of action; collection development considerations; analysis of factors concerning library functions and service; and, initial reaction from patrons and staff. The study is also presented as a model for other medium-to-large suburban libraries intending to initiate a similar project.  相似文献

Summary

This article focuses on how teachers in the Social Studies Department at Monument Mountain Regional High School in Great Barrington, MA constructed, in 1972, a six-week curriculum on the Nazi Holocaust. The unit is considered to be the first formal curriculum on that subject for secondary students. The author of the article, who was a member of the department at that time, explains how she and her colleagues chose the material to be included, which resources were particularly useful and how two of the teachers updated the anthology of readings that had become the basis of the curriculum.

The anthology was published initially by Bantam Books in conjunction with the Anti-Defamation League of B'nai B'rith as a trade book in soft cover and was entitled The Holocaust Years: Society on Trial (Chartock and Spencer, eds., 1978). After being out of print for nearly ten years, it was republished in hardcover in 1995, with a new title, Can It Happen Again? Chronicles of the Holocaust(Black Dog and Leventhal) with nineteen additional entries. Since the 1970s the anthology has served as a springboard for other educators interested in developing their own interdisciplinary curriculum on the Holocaust.  相似文献

This article describes the author's personal/professional experience in designing the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, a building that must “fit” in the context of the National Mall, express the spirit of the Holocaust, and become a permanent, living memorial. “The [building] did not pose the familiar problem of the container and the contained. The American Hospital Association (AHA) Resource Center indexes journals for the Health Planning and Administration (HEALTH) database and Hospital Literature Index (HLI). These journals, designated special list health journals, are selected to provide access to a wide and balanced coverage of hospital and health care administration and health policy literature. This article provides background information on HEALTH and HLI and describes special list health journals in detail (including historical information, information sources, and broad subject divisions). The University of Michigan opened a new medical library in July 1980. The five-story structure combines the library with a learning-resources center. Overall, the building has operated smoothly and has been well accepted.
