In Pursuit of School Ethos

The purpose of this paper is to examine the linkages and relationships between the officially prescribed school ethos and that which emerges from social interaction. Qualitative data drawn from one Grant-Maintained-Integrated and one Catholic primary school in Northern Ireland show how school ethos, defined as the observed practices and interactions of school members, often departs considerably from school ethos defined as those values and beliefs which the school officially supports. On the basis of the data it is argued that much of what we understand of school ethos is superficial and contradictory. With this in mind the paper concludes by presenting a new angle on ethos which, when taken in conjunction with the other perspectives, further enhances our understanding of how schools work.     

普通高校体育教育价值危机与对策研究

我国正处于社会主义市场经济时期,校园与社会两者之间存在着极大的谐同性,作为对社会反应最敏感的群体——大学生,被列入市场体系。如此社会形势中出现了＂道德阵痛＂＂信仰危机＂＂价值困惑＂等＂世纪末情节＂。大学生道德价值观念直接受到冲击,如何引导他们,已经是现代学校教育的一个重要问题。学校体育是学校教育的重要组成部分,是现代教育思想的重要内容。它对培养有理想、有道德、有文化、有纪律的＂四有＂人才,有其特有的不可缺少的重要作用。     

TAKING SCHOOL CONTEXTS MORE SERIOUSLY: THE SOCIAL JUSTICE CHALLENGE

ABSTRACT:  Research is increasingly highlighting the influence of school contexts on school processes and student achievement. This article reviews a range of social justice rationales for taking school contexts into better account, and highlights the challenges contextualisation currently poses for practice and for policy. It notes important constraints on contextualised practice and limited developments in contextualising policy. There is now increasing concern to recognise and understand context in school effectiveness and school improvement research but such research needs to consider school context much more, in order to provide a stronger underpinning for contextualised policy and practice. School composition research is potentially most insightful because it addresses the issue most directly. Nevertheless future large-scale studies in this area need to overcome a number of limitations within the existing literature.     

学研结合,培养和训练高师学生科研能力

作为未来的教育工作者,高师学生的教育科研意识、素质与水平,将直接影响到今后中小学教师队伍的专业化发展。河北师范大学教育学院“学研结合”活动的实施表明,高师院校对在校大学生进行科研能力的培养与训练是必要的,也是可行的。

Chinese and English: primary school cultures in Singapore

The culture of a school informs every aspect of its operations. The shortest and most common definition of culture is ‘the way we do things around here’. The methodology to depict the culture of a school has been debated, especially as to whether questionnaires can be used. This study examined the cultures of two primary schools in Singapore using a variety of means, incuding a questionnaire. One school has a history and is popularly perceived today as ‘Chinese'; the other is seen as ‘English’. Differences in teacher culture were found between the two schools and to a lesser extent between the English‐medium and Chinese‐medium teachers within a school. Overall a process of national homogenisation was found, driven largely by frequent examinations common to all schools. The questionnaire used provided a wealth of impressionistic data but needs to be modified to address leadership style directly.

校园暴力案频发的原因是多方面的,但其中最主要的当属思想道德教育方面的原因。只有牢固树立正确的教育观,把培养合格的下一代做为最基本、最重要的目标,才能营造一个比较良好的社会教育氛围。无论学校、家庭还是社会都应当把培养合格的公民、健全的人格、科学的头脑作为对下一代人的教育目标。     

论党校图书馆藏书建设

党校图书馆担负着为党校教学和科研服务的任务,而图书资料是实现这种服务的最重要的物质基础,因此党校图书馆的藏书结构是否合理,将直接影响着为教学和科研服务的效果。几年来,党校教育有了长足的发展,对培训对象、课程设置、师资队伍等有了更高的要求,故图书馆的图书资料管理也应当跟上教学科研的步伐。目前,党校图书馆的藏书建设现状远远不适应教学科研的要求,丞待改善,这就要求我们要根据党校教学的特点有目的、有计划地开展图书资料的收集、补充,尽快建设跟上时代步伐的、鲜明的,具有党校特色的藏书结构。     

Delamination Method In English Teaching Can Also Be Applicable In Senior Middle School

The paper makes a research on delamination method in English teaching in senior middle school—a dimension of English teaching.By applying theories of linguistics,the author analyzes the present situation of the application of delamination method in English teaching both in college school and in senior middle school and a conclusion is,then,drawn that delamination English teaching can also be applicable in senior middle school.     

农村初中义务教育阶段学生辍学现象的体制性障碍分析——对农村初中“控辍保学”工作的调查与思考

农村初中义务教育阶段辍学现象与素质教育的要旨＂面向学生全体＂相背离,而辍学学生作为农村新成长劳动力素质的高低直接影响着社会主义新农村建设。如何解决农村初中学生辍学问题是义务教育和新农村建设的最根本问题。本调研报告首先陈述了农村初中义务教育阶段学生辍学现状,进而分析了造成辍学现象的体制性障碍并提出了相应的对策与建议,即坚持＂以人为本＂,改革学校课程内容和评价制度,坚持为＂三农＂服务的办学方向,大力发展农村中等职业教育。     

A cross‐national review of evidence‐based psychosocial treatments for children and adolescents with autistic spectrum disorders in the United Kingdom,Ireland, and United States

The most thoroughly researched topic in relation to autistic spectrum disorders (ASDs) is the evaluation of interventions. Educational psychology in the United Kingdom and Ireland is the most closely allied profession to school psychology in the United States. In considering what is published by and for the profession, it is important to include all of those journals that are directly relevant to the profession including educational psychology journals. This review reports on the type, focus, and quality of school‐based ASD intervention research reported in school and educational psychology journals between 2005 and 2015. Twelve evaluation studies are reported, which evaluated 10 discrete interventions and two commercial packages. These interventions targeted academic, social, communication, and behavioral outcomes. Implications for the practice of school psychologists are discussed including the application of research to the idiographic nature of the work of school psychologists.

"班级"作为学校教育教学及管理的基层单位,直接影响到其中每一位成员的成长,甚至于影响到整个学校的发展.良好班集体的建立,是学校教育教学管理中极其重要的一项工作,要做好这一项工作,最重要的就是要从建立良好的班风抓起.良好的班风,又要从目标导向的确立,规章制度的健全、班委队伍的建设、各种活动的组织、各方面因素合力的调动、灵活多变的教育方法的应用等多方面来抓.

中等职业学校教师幸福感的影响因素及提升策略

在中等职业学校中,教师是最重要的人力资源之一,也是促进职业教育健康发展的源泉。中职教师的幸福感会直接影响教师的工作积极性和教育教学行为,从而影响学校的教学质量和办学水平。影响中职教师幸福感的因素包括外部因素中的人口统计学变量因素、人际关系以及社会支持,内部因素中的人格、自尊以及教学效能感。因此,提升中职教师幸福感需要社会和学校营造良好的社会舆论风气,还需要教师提高自身的教育教学水平,树立正确的职业价值观。     

Does high school quality matter? Evidence from admissions data

This paper examines the effect of attending elite private high school on college placement using admissions data from the most selective high school in a large metropolitan area. To overcome omitted variable bias, we limit the sample to admitted applicants and control directly for the scores assigned by admissions based on in-depth analyses of the applicants and their families. In addition, we control for a wide set of covariates including student and family characteristics and entrance exam scores. Results indicate that attending selective private high school rather than other public and private high schools causes students to attend more selective universities. Effects are driven by gains for girls and students from lower-income neighborhoods.     

Does school context matter? Relations with teacher burnout and job satisfaction

This study examined relations between teachers' perception of the school context, teacher burnout, and teacher job satisfaction. Participants were 563 Norwegian teachers in elementary school and middle school. Four aspects of teachers' perception of the school context (supervisory support, time pressure, relations to parents, and autonomy) and three dimensions of teacher burnout (emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and reduced personal accomplishment) were measured. The data were analyzed by means of structural equation modelling using the AMOS 5 program. Teachers' job satisfaction was directly related to two of the dimensions of burnout (emotional exhaustion and reduced personal accomplishment) and indirectly related to all aspects of the school context, through emotional exhaustion and reduced personal accomplishment. The three dimensions of burnout were differently related to the school context variables. Emotional exhaustion was most strongly related to time pressure whereas depersonalization and reduced personal accomplishment were most strongly related to teachers' relations with parents. Implications for both research and educational practices are discussed.

通过对中、小学校体育指导思想的探讨,认为学校教育树立“健康第一”指导思想是党中央、国务院针对应试教育出现弊端而作出的英明决策。“健康第一”指导思想的确立,明确了学校体育在学校教育中的重要地位。中小学校体育对青少年身体正常发育和健康成长、身心和谐发展,担负着重要责任,是全面推进素质教育的重要环节。它与学校教育以“健康第一”为指导思想目标相一致。
