LION STATUES IN BEIJING

The lion is an exotic animal that was brought into inland China as an imperial tribute in the Han Dynasty （206 BC - 220 AD） when Western influences began to be imported. As few Chinese had opportunities to see this non-indigenous species, lion-shaped artworks crafted by ancient Chinese mostly did not reflect the authentic imagc of the lion. Asmall village in Cangnan County, southeast Zhejiang Province. The old street is so narrow that can hardly house a miniature puppet show stage. Wooden houses along the street have been worn down by the years and stairs may creak when people step on them. Qianhudai is a small village in Wengyang Township, Yueqing County, coastal province of Zhejiang, which is only less than 500m away from East China Sea. In the past local villagers mostly red themselves on fishing. TEN ARCHEOLOGICAL DISCOVERIES OF CHINA IN 2006

＂2006 Ten Archeological Discoveries of China＂ were co-released by China Heritage News and China Archeology. Society on April 8, 2007. Launched in 1990 the annual event saw nearly 600 nominations this year. According to Tong Mingkang, Deput.v Director-General of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage, the event has become a famous brand name and many sites which won this annual award have been given special care by local governments. Tong also highlighted three major criteria for assessing candidate discoveries： their value and importance pertaining to academic study; application of new technologies and approaches; protection measures adopted during and after excavation.

EXHIBITION COMMEMORATING WU GUANZHONG HELD IN NATIONAL GALLERY

A special exhibition was held in the Nationa Art Museum of China from July 7 to August 2, commemorating contemporary master painter Wu Guanzhong, who passed away during the late evening hours of June 25.
