Modern microcomputers offer attractive possibilities to illustrate various concepts related to regression. In this article we describe how this can be achieved.

In spite of the name, simple linear regression presents a number of conceptual difficulties, particularly for introductory students. This article describes a simulation tool that provides a hands‐on method for illuminating the relationship between parameters and sample statistics.

在分析了李道本、陈少霞提出的基于最小差错概率盲均衡算法的基础上,用牛顿梯度变步长实现了基于最小差错概率新的盲均衡算法,仿真结果表明,与固定步长的盲均衡算法相比,该算法收敛速度快,均方误差小,在均衡技术的应用方面有一定的实用价值．

Computer packages are available which can take much of the tedium out of the computational aspects of statistics and, we hope, thereby improve comprehension of the concepts. This article describes how the software package Minitab was incorporated into two elementary statistics courses, one at Kingston Polytechnic in England, the other at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in the United States.

随着城市经济和旅游业的发展,城市无论大小,各处的标识牌呈现出以双语标示的趋势。但是,由于对标识语翻译管理的疏忽、译者的水平以及制作标识语牌的部门业务能力的欠缺,标识牌上的翻译有很多失误,这不仅影响了标识牌指示和提供信息的功能,也影响了一个城市的文化形象。文章主要是对张掖市甘州区各个公共场所的标识牌上的翻译进行了实地考察,然后进行分类整理并对错误进行分析纠正,同时分析了出现这些错误背后的原因并提出对策。

Discovering the Laws of Sampling

That the sample mean and variance are “good” estimates of the corresponding population parameters is easily accepted as “obvious” by students, but the concept of standard error of the mean is often found to be quite a hurdle. That this standard error decreases inversely as the square-root of the sample size, and the mysterious appearance of the Normal distribution, are often taken as magical and incomprehensible effects, and non-mathematical students can often be turned away from further understanding. This article describes a program which provides an experimental framework in which the student can rapidly develop an intuition for the basic properties of sampling.

文章采用实验的方法对俄罗斯留学生汉语声调的偏误进行研究,分析偏误产生原因,总结偏误规律,发现俄罗斯留学生汉语声调存在着整体调域偏低、偏窄,阳平调发音弯头过长,个体差异较大等偏误特点,并就此提出针对俄罗斯留学生的汉语声调教学对策。     

Efficiency in Minitab

This simple Minitab simulation exercise illustrates the concept of efficiency of estimators. Students compare the sampling distributions of the sample mean, median and mid-range from a normal distribution and from a uniform distribution. The striking differences observed give rise to much discussion.
