Chinese Doucai Porcelain

Doucai is a variety of decorative porcelain formed by the combination of underglaze blue-and-white and overglaze decoration. Before firing, the contour of the pattern should be sketched on the base with blue-and-white, and some paffs should be filled with blue-and- white too. Then the painted base should be sent into the kiln and fired into blue-and- white porcelain, on which the blank of the previously-sketched pattern should be filled with paints of various colors. And then it should be fired again in the low-temperature kiln with oxiding flame about 800 degrees Celsius. As the underglaze blue-and-white and the overglaze decoration seem to contend for beauty, it is called ＂Doucai＂ （literally, compete for color）.

Last December, Shan Wen, a trainee of the Jiangsu Provincial Kunqu Theatre, gave a superb performance of the kunqu classic “Peony Pavilion“, winning the first prize for the youth group at the First National “Red Plum“ Theatre Competition.

Humble Cave, a dilapidated cave shelter located in Wujiapo near the Big Goose Pagoda in the southern part of Xi＇an, is a historic ruin which has been now turned into a Iove-themed park within the Qujiang Lake Site Park, Three Chinese calligraphic characters, meaning ＂ancient humble cave＂, are inscribed at the cave＇s entrance, it is said that Wang Baochuan, a faithful lover, waited in this cave for the return of her husband Xue Pinggui for 18 years, In front of the cave＇s window is an ancestral temple in which the couple＇s statues are enshrined. Even human activities on the stadium＇s staircases constitute integral elements of the building＇s exterior. While it is amazingly innovative creation, the stadium is characterized by a simplistic and elegant style.
