吴芳吉早在20世纪20、30年代就对新诗发展提出了许多重要的见解，并身体力行写下了大量的白屋体新诗。吴芳吉主张新诗要随时代的变化而发展，要与西方平等交流，要继承传统精华为我所用，要创新，要有时代新精神，倡导写真诗、抒真情。

由于20世纪，特别是世纪初中国处在一个革命的浪漫时代，新诗诗人又是以年轻人为主体，很容易与浪漫主义精神产生共鸣，因此浪漫主义思潮流行中国，浪漫主义诗歌成为对新诗产生了最大影响的外国诗歌流派。这种影响不仅来自浪漫主义诗歌本身，也源于新诗诗人对浪漫主义诗歌的“误读”。新诗诗人夸大了浪漫主义诗歌从抒情内容到体形式上对传统的颠覆作用，特别是夸大了诗人生存方式的“革命性”和诗体方式的“自由性”，助长了新诗诗人在做人方式和作诗方式上对“自由”的过度追求，特别是误以为诗体的大解放是浪漫主义最显的一个特点，严重影响了新诗的诗体建设。

时间是生命的本质存在，时间意识体现为诗人对时间的独特感知和把握。在中国新诗发展的不同时期，诗人的时间意识也体现为不同的特征，既有对传统时间意识的承传，又有对主体性时间意识不同姿态的演绎。通过对新诗时间意识的特征性考察，意在揭示现代诗人的精神发展状况，并对新诗的主体性特征作出观照。     

阅读接受与新诗经典化

经典化是一个动词,新诗经典化意指新诗诞生至今延续不断的新诗阅读接受活动,一种业已发生的将一些新诗化为经典的传播接受过程,它由近一个世纪里的读者在不同的历史语境里完成。新诗读者包括不同年代的大众读者和专业批评者、研究者,而阅读接受语境变动不居,致使新诗经典化活动异样丰富,它将一些诗人、诗作遴选出来,剪除枝蔓,突出、放大其主要特征,使其成为所谓的"经典"。新诗经典化是一个意义生产过程,为20世纪中国阐释、凝练出多重现代精神和诗学新传统。然而,新诗经典化是一个尚未完成的过程,那些既已遴选出来的新诗"经典"尚需一个更为漫长的阅读接受过程的筛选与确认。     

基于文化激进主义的新诗话语重构

长期以来,中国新诗深受五四新文化运动的影响,并随着新文化运动的发展而不断改变和创新,从传统古体诗歌的经典体式里成功突围,形成了中国新诗的新风格。新诗的产生与当时的政治背景、文化背景紧密相连,是政治和文化的激烈运动,促使中国文学的求新求变,完成了文学本身的蜕变。新文化运动的主流思潮是文化激进主义,而文化激进主义最显著的特征就是反传统,与传统彻底决裂,中国新诗在文化激进主义的影响下,不断探索中国新诗的出路,实现了中国新诗的话语重构。
