翻译属于文化活动。翻译推动译语文化的发展,又受到译语文化各种因素的制约。从语用学的角度考虑翻译策略是处理文化差异的方法之一。本文从两个方面论述了翻译与文化之间的关系：翻译对文化发展所起的作用、文化对翻译的影响与制约,以期在英汉互译中最大限度地减少文化不等值,真实地再现原文的面貌,增进民族间的文化交流。

For truly successful translating,biculturalism is even more important than bilingualism,therefore translation in nature is an activity of cross-cultural communication.A different language has certain particularity or individuality.There may not be consistently corresponding relation in denotation and meaning among different languages.The uncertainty of translation exists objectively,so does the untranslatability of the emotional significance hidden behind the original text.To reach the corresponsive effect in translation between English and Chinese,it is necessary to be aware of the cultural elements,especially the loss of emotional significance produced from cultural differences of these two languages.

Great opportunities together with great challenges are brought to the development of Chinese economy with the globalization of the world economy. Foreign businessmen want to share the market of China, while Chinese enterprisers with a broader sight have been thinking about selling products to international markets. Languages and cultures of different nations have their own characteristics. In order to communicate with each other, human beings must make use of the methods of translation.Thus, it shows that translation, which is a social activity of inter-language, inter-culture and inter-community, is linked closely to culture. Meanwhile, the features of translation represent similarly in advertising translation. Generally speaking, when doing advertising translation, it can not only focus on language differences between the two sides, but also pay attention to cultural differences. Or else it would be difficult to translate satisfying advertisements.By taking examples from Chinese-English and EnglishChinese, this paper compares the different aspects between Chinese and Western thinking sets, traditional ideas and values in order to reflect differences of advertising translation based on different cultures. Finally, it will sum up some strategies of inter-cultural advertising translation.

Language is the carrier of a culture.It contains rich cultural information.Therefore translation is not merely to convert one language into another,and it is also a communication activity which involves converting one type of culture into another.Cultural factors begin to gain more and more attention of translators.we find that cultural differences pose major barriers in translating.A thing which is self-evident in one culture has to be painstakingly explained in another.The most serious mistakes in translating and interpreting are usually not the result of verbal inadequacy,but of wrong cultural assumptions.Hardly can any text be successfully translated without appropriately dealing with the differences between source and target cultures.Therefore in this paper I intend to analyse the differences between Chinese and Western cultures as reflected in translation,then to put forward some translation methods(domestication and foreignization)in dealing with them.
