only lies in its deep theme and striking arrangement of events, but also in her accurate and vivid language. In order to study the differences between English and Chinese,This thesis is focused on two Chinese versions of Whuthering Heights in the light of contrastive linguistics. The detailed version comparison consists of two parts: the comparison between two Chinese versions in lexicology and syntax. After comparing two versions, the author noted that both Yang and Lu still commit some mistakes because of ignorance of linguistic and cultural differences between English and Chinese and in view of this mistakes, the paper offers some revised translation texts for reference only. The author hopes that the comparison results may be beneficial to cross-culture communication and English learning.  相似文献

The Beat Generation(BG) and the Angry Man(AYM) both emerged after the Second World War.Thus, the misunderstanding of the two has existed for a long time.Large quantities of people called the BG the American Angry Young Man.Undoubtedly, the two resembled each other to some extent. However, the BG and the AYM can’t be treated alike, for their differences far outweighed their similarities. This paper aims to analyze their differences in many aspects like the national environment and their memberships, which consequently led to other differences such as the differences in essences, features, influence and finale.  相似文献

A Doll’s House and Macbeth obviously belong to different categories in content. However, the two heroines in these two plays, Nora Helmer and Lady Macbeth, demonstrate similar feminist qualities. By staging an overall contrastive analysis on the personality and tragic life of two protagonists from the perspective of feminism, it is founded that both of them are victims oppressed by the patriarchal system and they all have feminine consciousness against this system. Nevertheless, their distinctive complex personalities and different story settings make the reasons for their rebellion differ in many ways and they end up with different endings.  相似文献

As the masterpiece of Wharton,The Age of Innocence mainly concentrates on women’s fates in the strict restraint of the New York society. In the novel,Wharton portrays two contrasting female characters—May Welland and Ellen Olenska, who are regarded as the most progressive ones among the female figures she has ever created.Scholars, both domestic and abroad, have studied this novel from a raft of perspectives. Most of them have explored the feminist ideas, the conventions of upper-class society, and the protagonist Newland’s perplexity which are embodied in the novel. However, this paper aims to examine the divergences between two female figures—May and Ellen. The exploration of their divergences makes it clear that May is an ideal woman of the 19th century New York while Ellen is an ideal woman of modern society.  相似文献

The two English versions of Lu Xun’s stories, translated by Julia Lovell and the Rangs, are to be studied from the ecotranslatological perspective. A comparative study of the two English versions is made to figure out how the two translators linguistically and culturally make adaptive selections in the process of translation of Lu Xun’s stories—In other words, how the eco-environment has greatly influenced the two translators’ decisions to make adaptations and choices in linguistic and cultural aspects. The thesis discovers that the eco-environment has greatly influenced the process of translating Lu Xun’s stories into English and eco-translatology is feasible to analyze the two translations, that both the Yangs and Lovell have offered successful translations by making adaptive selections and selective transformations. Therefore, neither of the two translations is superior or inferior to one another in different translational eco- environments. Hopefully, the thesis may enrich current researches on the Yang’s and Lovell’s translations and may be useful for the further study of applying eco-translatology to studies on other translators and their works.  相似文献

A Rose for Emily is the masterpiece of William Faulkner, who is regarded as the founder of Southern literature. The Fall of the House of Usher is one of the most popular short stories written by the great American writer Edgar Allan Poe. They have common ends that the main characters of the two novels—Emily and Usher are all destruction of their unbalanced personality. This thesis will set a new point from a branch view of psychology—personality psychology to analyze the two characters Emily and Usher, how they change from pathological personality to abnormal personality, and finally destruct from flesh to soul. The deep meaning is to announce the human inner world will distract by the outside world.  相似文献

This study examined the NNSs’ ability of modifying their interlanguage utterances in modified comprehensible output to give response to other-initiation and self-initiation,which was studied in both NS-NNS and NNS-NNS interactions. It was the qualitative study by using two different tasks which were picture-dictation task and opinion-exchange task to collect the data. There were 32 participants whose age ranged of 22 to 37.The author proposed two hypotheses based on his expectation that NNS-NNS interactions would provide more opportunities for NNS participants to give comprehensible output for other-initiated clarification requests and self-initiated clarification attempts than NS-NNS interactions. The author was good at using numbers to illustrate and describe the data in his writing.  相似文献

This article sets out to study two strategies on culture translation: one of them is domestication, the other is foreignization. Numerous authentic translated versions are collected to analyze the characteristics of the two strategies in both diachronic and synchronic perspectives. It is concluded that the two strategies have their respective features and applicable values. It is suggested that the two strategies should be viewed and studied dialectically and historically rather than statically and absolutely in order to place translation practice and translation theory in a correct track.  相似文献

From cultural point of view, there are two methods in translation:adaptation which is TL culture-oriented and alienation which is SL culture-oriented.What this article tries to prove is that each of them has its own strong and weak points, which leads to the conclusion that both methods are justified in their existence. And last, some points for attention are suggested for translation, which include the relationship between SL and TL,the type of texts and the translator’s purpose.  相似文献

Nowadays, the fairy tales have been on hot discussion. Some say that the very original Grimm’s fairy tales is capricious that we may be more cautious whether it’s suitable for children. With the rethinking of fairy tales, many other scholars argue that the fairy tales can be valuable with its hidden German customs in the original version and the current versions are acceptable to children. The hot discussion raises our thinking. This new discussing wave may indicate something at a degree that the Grimm’s Fairy Tales is worthy going deeper to study. We think that the Grimm’s ferry tales is valuable for its pure essence and the German culture it hides that even adults should read it. Children can read the current version of Grimm’s Fairy Tales with their innocence, getting the basic judging system of good and bad. The core question is that Adults also should pick it up. That’s because usually people will find that all the experiences and reasons can be dated back to the simple truths in fairy tales. Meantime, the Grimm’s Fairy Tales reflects lots of unthinkable customs and culture. The only thing we need to do is try to find new aspects and directions to explore the classic. With the spiritual and academic help, shouldn’t the Grimm’s fairy tales be necessary for both children and adults to read?  相似文献

Both Mark Twain and Lu Xun were the most well-known writers in the world literature. They were famous for biting style of writing and the way of using humor and irony, which won high praise of public. Although they lived in different countries and even different times, they shared certain similarities. This thesis will compare the likeness in their writing styles, especially their employment of sharp contrast. As for language, they were all the leaders in literature. It seemed that their works were just for fun. Actually there was light of thoughts in them that were used to satirize,to disclose,to laugh and eventually to cure people’s soul. Therefore, after reading their works, people would laugh with tears and come to examine themselves. Naturally the glorification and organization of translating Mark Twain’s works may result in the similarities of writing styles between the two men of letters.  相似文献

A growing body of evidence indicates that for some children, early incidences of challenging behaviors are predictors of later difficulties. These incidences of challenging behaviors may predict mental health issues, social adjustment issues and/or increased challenging behaviors that will impede school success and impact transition to adult life (Lipsey & Derzon, 1998; Wagner, Cometo & Newman, 2003; Walker, Ramsey & Gresham, 2005). This study seeks to explore the relationship between two commonly used assessments in early childhood settings, the Battelle Developmental Inventory (BDI) (given by caregivers/teachers) (Newborg, 2005) and the Child Behavior Checklist (CBC) (given by both parents and caregivers/teachers) (Achenbach, 2000). Two significant correlations that linked the use of the BDI and the CBC were found. Further research is needed with larger sample sizes.  相似文献

According to human history, there are varieties of ways through which the feminine aspect of nature faced and in many cases, overcame oppression. One of the ways this phenomenon displays itself is in the literary works that we deem as realistic and an expression of the norms and customs of the society in question.Sister Carrie and My Antonia are two such literary pieces that embody the struggles and triumphs of women in the 19th and most of the early 20th century. In creating such monumental and naturalistic adaptations, both authors are able to present the case of two migratory women from different backgrounds but confined by the norms and mannerisms of the society around them. The struggles that each of these characters undergoes is an expression of the underlying constraints that the paternal and chauvinistic society of their time places upon both women and the natural world. The eco-feminist agenda, however, gets a more elaborate representation in My Antonia than in Sister Carrie due to a variety of factors that serve to illuminate the differences between these two iconic stories. This paper makes a thorough comparison between two literary works—Sister Carrie by Theodore Dreiser and My Antonia by Willa Cather from the perspective of eco-feminism.  相似文献
