Improving Retail Sales Performance by Integrating HPT with Marketing Strategies

In order to accomplish organizational goals within constraints, marketers need to develop and implement marketing strategies effectively and efficiently. Trainers equipped with human performance technology (HPT) skills and knowledge may contribute substantially to strategy development and implementation and eventually contribute to organizational success. In this article, we demonstrate how HPT improved retail sales performance in an organization in the Chinese telecom industry. The outcomes highlight the benefits of integrating HPT with marketing strategies and the importance of forming partnerships between training staff and marketing professionals.     

Embedding HPT: Improving police performance by implementing human performance technology in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police

Good police performance enables social capital, strengthens communities, and helps build civil society. Since 2003, Canada's national police force, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), has used human performance technology to improve performance in more than 300 sites across Canada and also as a core part of the RCMP leadership talent pipeline. The lessons learned may be of interest to others contemplating a large‐scale distributed use of this powerful methodology.     

Seeding HPT in the High Desert

A passing comment at a chance meeting led to students from the University of New Mexico's (UNM) Organization, Information, and Learning Sciences (OILS) program participating in the University Case Study Competition (CSC) at the 2013 ISPI international conference. The teams’ involvement in the contest resulted in many lessons learned and in the transformation of an academic program. This article discusses the benefits accrued from CSC participation by a student team, one of the team's professors, and the OILS program. The article also illustrates the impact that a single individual can have on others, a program, and a community.     

Improving a mathematical key skill using precision teaching

Mathematics is a core subject in the UK curriculum, with high standards achievement a policy of the UK government. Innovative approaches and strategies have been advocated to achieve these high standards. One approach that has been advocated is Precision Teaching, supported by its successful application in schools in the United States. For this study, a 12-week programme was devised to develop student fluency in the multiplication timetables. A key skill task was devised and scores compared before and after programme implementation. Pre-programme scores revealed poor student performance on this key skill. Post-programme results show an improvement for children using Precision Teaching, with some outperforming the average of their classmates. The paper endorses previous findings that fluency is important for student progress through the curriculum. It also endorses research findings that adding practice and timed assessment improve student performance levels. These results were achieved with minimal disruption and materials. The paper recommends educational practitioners to support further research into the practicalities and suggested benefits of fluency-orientated education.
