A Philosophy of Teaching for Senior High School English Courses in Ningxia

In Ningxia,the traditional grammar-oriented method is widely used.However,it produced unsatisfactory teaching re sults that students become competent in grammar but incompetent in communication.The aim of high school English education is to cultivate students’preliminary ability of communication in writing and speaking,and to foster their ability to study by them selves for further learning.In this view,it will both explain my Communicative Language Teaching method,and make my teach ing philosophy more comprehensive to meet the specific needs of English teaching in Ningxia.     

Task-based Teaching of College English Listening

With the reform of CET-4, CET-6 examination, the proportion of listening part obviously has been increased, how to improve students’ listening ability and the teaching of college English listening is worth to be studied and developed in the practice. Tasked-based teaching is particularly concerned in the English education area in China, which emphasizes to make learners study English naturally by finishing some task. This paper starts from the perspective of task-based teaching to discuss how it will be effectively pu t into practice in the teaching of college English listening. Task-based teaching can scientifically use class time to improve students’ independent learning ability.     

The Pedagogical Implication of the Internet in English Teaching and Learning

Over the past few years, the Intemet has emerged as a prominent new technology. As the use of the Intemet is widespread in numerous fields and domains, without a doubt, it also carries great potential for educational use, specifically second and foreign language education. This paper will therefore try to explore the issue of the Intemet as a teaching aid, or as a teaching medium for English teaching and learning in China, through focusing on the following aspects： 1） the current state of CALL in China; 2） pedagogical benefits of the Intemet in English teaching and learning; 3） its implication in English classrocrn in China.     

The Application of Body Language in College English Teaching

With the further deepening of the reform of English Teaching in university,how to use the time in English classroom effectively to create a good English learning atmoshphere in which students can understand what they hear,can express themselves and desire to talk in English has become a key issue in the reform.It determines whether the reform can contiue.This paper focuses on the application of body language in college English teaching and will analyse its role of promotion in English classroom,then discuss about how to make full use of body language to improve college English teaching.     

Rethinking on Matching Teachers’ Teaching Styles with Students’ Learning Styles in ESL/EFL Classrooms

Teaching styles and learning styles play important parts in ESL/EFL classrooms. However, is it necessary for language teachers to match their teaching styles with their students’ learning styles?Is it feasible for the teachers to match their teaching styles to every individual student’s learning styles?Because of the incompatible learning and teaching styles, suggestions on how to deal with the difficulties in the matching of these two styles will be given.     

The Interactive Teaching in College English Listening Practice

This paper discusses about how to enhance the interaction of teaching in College English Listening class,thus to change the single teaching situation and stimulate the students’interest in English learning and mobilize the students’enthusiasm for learning,so that it can make sure that each section of the listening class really has a good teaching result.     

The Application of Cooperative Learning in Improving Rural Senior High Students’ English

English teaching method has been improved and the effect of teaching has become greater these years in China,but it is not satis fying.Therefore,adopting experiment approach,the present study aims to solve the question:Can cooperative learning bring effect to the English learning? It chooses two classes from a rural school,one is experimental group which adopts cooperative-learning approach,the other is control group which adopts traditional approach.Focusing on the analysis and comparativeness of their two tests’ scores,it studies the influence of cooperative learning on psychology,learning environment and learning which bring to the English learners,making a con clusion that the application of cooperative learning can greatly improve English learning.     

Strategies for College English Teaching in Military Academies

As pointed out in College English Curriculum Requirements, the main objective of College English teaching and learning in military academies is to"develop cadets’ ability to use English in a well-rounded way, especially in their listening and speaking abilities, so that in their future studies and careers they will be able to communicate effectively, and at the same time enhance their ability to study independently and improve their comprehensive cultural quality so as to meet the needs of PLA’s modernization."This paper focuses on some effective strategies which may be of some practical use for the teaching and learning of the English language.     

The Lexical Approach and College English Teaching in China

Traditionally,language is considered to be a grammar vocabulary dichotomy system,and grammar and vocabulary seem to be independent of each other.This deep-rooted notion is particularly prevalent in Chinese English teaching and learning.Michael Lewis,the author of the Lexical Approach challenged the standard view of dividing language teaching into grammar and vocabulary.He believes that language is grammaticalised lexis,not lexicalized grammar,and lexis is the core of language learning while grammar is subordinate to it.This paper intends to explore its theoretical foundations and emphasize the great significance of the Lexical Approach to college English teaching in China.     

A Cross-Cultural Perspective: An Integration of Traditional Chinese Culture into College English Textbooks

Teaching language is teaching culture. English is an international language with local and global significance.In“New Horizon College English”, Chinese culture elements are deficient, which is not conducive to our country’s higher education and cross-cultural communication skills and to achieve the goal of innovation of Chinese culture. As an important part of world culture, Chinese culture should be integrated into college English education. College English teaching materials should include not only western cultural elements but also fully present Chinese culture elements.     

A Study of Oral English Teaching and Learning in Vocational Collegesfrom the Perspective of Constructivism

With the increasing development of China’economy and society,the communication between China and other countries is on the rise,which contribute to the increasing demands of foreign languages especially English.As a result,oral English plays an important role in English learning and it is necessary for learners to improve their oral English.While the traditional teaching models cannot meet the teaching demand now,Constructivist learning theory(CLT),a very important branch of the cognitive theory has arisen a considerable amount of interest as a new teaching method.In the paper,the author try to apply constructivist learning theory to vocational college oral English teaching in order to explore some oral English teaching models from a constructivist perspective and hopes that this paper can provide some help to apply the CLT to vocational oral English teaching.     

An Introduction to Interactive Teaching Mode and Its Implication in College English Writing Class

Interactive teaching mode refers to a dynamic process of teaching in which teachers and students and teaching materials will affect each other. It offers language learners a chance to communicate and exchange information frequently. Group cooperative leaning has long been considered to be one of the most important forms of the interactive teaching mode. English writing,one of the essential English language skills, is an integral part of college English teaching. The high or low level of English writing is a comprehensive reflection of various abilities. This paper aims to explore the application of the interactive teaching model in college English writing class in order to improve students’ motivation and ability of English writing, thus can provide an effective way of learning to the current college English writing class.     

A New Pattern to Research the Learning:From Phenomenography and Constructivism Perspective——The Case of Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts

This essay is trying to explore how the arts students experience the teaching and learning context in the English class of the col lege from the phenomenography perspective.The qualitative research methodology of phenomenography has traditionally required a man ual sorting and analysis of interview data.To study the teaching and learning context,the qualitative research method will be applied,and the data collection will base on the face-to-face interview.There are 8 sophomores were interviewed after they had one year study in col lege.The research findings reveal that most student in interview gradually get used to college English class,but never think about changing their learning approach even they study one year in a totally different teaching and learning environment.     

Gender Differences in Language Learning and the Implications for EFL Teaching

Gender difference is one of the important factors which affect language learning. This paper reviews the current researches on gender differences in language learning in an EFL context, especially gender differences in affective aspect, language learning strategy use, and other aspects. Finally, it will talk about the pedagogical implications for English teaching, aiming to help the teachers to improve their English teaching in an EFL context.     

Implications of Output Hypothesis on College English Writing

With the reform of college English course,the objectives,philosophy and models of Chinese EFL teaching have been deeply changed.So college students are required to have higher language proficiency;it is also a challenge for the English teachers in our country.The traditional teaching mode should be changed.College English teaching is not only to input knowledge to students,but also to foster their skills on the application of knowledge,and excavate their potential in order to promote their language proficiency.Writing,as one of the efficient ways to measure students’comprehensive English ability,has attracted more attention in the field of English researches,which,however,got little improvement so far.What we can see from the requirements is that college students and teachers should put more attention on their output instead of input alone.Therefore,this paper intends to apply Swain’s "Output Hypothesis" to the college English teaching of non-English major students in China,and make some teaching suggestions based on the three functions of the "Output Hypothesis".

In English teaching,culture introduction is necessary.It needs effective teaching method to avoid bias in English teaching and to improve students’ English learning ability.It is good for the integration of theory and practice,which can really make the students grasp English flexibly.     

On the Development of Learner Autonomy in Art Majors through Metacognitive Strategy Training

Learner autonomy is considered as one of the key educational goals in all the countries of the world since 1980s.In China,developing learner autonomy is particularly emphasized in College English Curriculum Requirements.Some researches have been made on developing learner autonomy,which seem to prove that the training of language learning strategies helps to develop learner autonomy.But because the traditional teaching method has been dominant in universities,college students,in particular art majors are passive and lose interests in English.Consequently,English teaching method must be reformed and learn er autonomy must be developed.In the relevant researches on learning strategy training and the development of learner autono my,the subjects are not involved in art majors.So the author tries to make a research in the field by combining with her teaching experience.Developing learner autonomy in art majors through the training of metacognitive strategies may lay the basis for their future learning and development,which is important for the college English teaching of art majors.Key wrods:learner autonomy;art majors;metacognitive strategy training     

Culture Differences and College English Reading

Cultural differences have a great effect on English learning,especially on college English reading.Reading is a crucial tool in acquiring information and knowledge.Culture cannot be separated from language.College English reading should focus on the differences of culture.It is important to understand how to lay stress on the differences in the course of college English teaching and learning about reading for increasing students’ ability of reading.This thesis analyzes the influence of culture on English reading and tries to set up a principle of teaching English through culture.To support my point of view,the relationship between language and culture is discussed first.Language is a part of culture and shaped by culture;it is also the carrier of culture and reflects cultural features of a community in which the language is spoken.Language and culture are closely related with each other.From the aspect of language teaching and learning,to teach a foreign language is to teach another culture;to learn a language is also to learn another culture.     

Importance of a Good Grasp of Sentence Sense Groups in English Learning

In the past twenty years, many good ways of learning English have been put forward. In this paper, the author comes up with a new approacha good grasp of sentence sense groups which he thinks is very helpful in improving the student English in many aspects. The author believes that a good grasp of sentence groups in English sentences is the basis of learning English well and that many students will benefit much from it when applying it to their English learning.     

How to Create a Low-anxiety Environment for Chinese Learners of EFL to Enhance Oral Proficiency in Speaking Lessons

The goal of teaching English speaking is to improve students’ communicative efficiency, or make students speak the target language clearly, coherently, accurately and fluently (Xu, 2005). However, in China, a number of students in an English speaking class tend to be passive and reluctant to speak out or be singled out publicly mainly due to their high anxiety, which, of course, becomes a significant constraint on improving their English proficiency. Therefore, how to create a relaxed atmosphere with a sense of security in the English speaking class to alleviate Chinese learners’ anxiety and to provide them with as many opportunities as possible to practice speaking English and improve their English proficiency is one of the central tasks for language teachers.his paper will firstly outline my teaching context in China in physical, pedagogical, institutional and personal aspects. This will be followed by the definition and classification of language learning anxiety, and the analysis of various factors contributing to foreign language learners’ anxiety as well as some suggestions of how to reduce the learners’ anxiety in the oral class according to the current literature. Finally, some applications will be presented in my teaching context in the hope of decreasing Chinese students’ anxiety to enhance their English speaking proficiency.
