在东汉末"天下大乱,群豪并起"的年代,曹操曾连下三道"唯才是举"的求贤令.表面上看,"才"是曹操用人的唯一标准;实际上,曹操十分注重政治上的"忠".当一度被曹操视为人才而委以重任的荀彧不为其所用、政治上表现出不同见解时,就被逼自杀.可见,所谓"唯才是举"只不过是曹操为了壮大实力和实现自己的政治野心而采取的一种战时策略和手段.
