As performance technologists collect data about performance in the workplace, they must be consciously aware how their presence affects the data they are collecting. While it would be improper to be dishonest in data collection, it is certainly not dishonest to use all avenues at hand to analyze problems. I don't know anyone for whom time isn't a problem—either there is not enough of it or there is too much. We're never satisfied with our punctuality, rate of performance, meeting of deadlines, et cetera. And so it makes sense that time is also a part of performance problems. In the recent article, “Development of Time Concepts: Differentiating Clock and Calendar from Apparent Durations,” Alida Spaans Westman looks at how we acquire time concepts, theorizes about how they are related to perception, and tests how resistant they are to influence from stress. This study sought to determine whether clear distinctions in cognitive structures which existed at the time of instruction between students classified as formal operational and concrete operational would persist over time and result in prototypical structures for each group. In addition, this study investigated the effect of the ability to produce an accurate cognitive structure on the retention of geometric content and the stability of cognitive structures.The results showed that clear prototypical structures could be derived for the students who were formal operational at the time of instruction and also for those who were concrete operational. The students in the formal operational group exhibited initial structures of the geometric content more like the content experts, and after one year performed significantly better on a content test, and constructed more stable and accurate cognitive structures than those in the concrete operational group.  相似文献

The performance of an aging structure is commonly evaluated under the framework of reliability analysis, where the uncertainties associated with the structural resistance and loads should be taken into account. In practical engineering, the probability distribution of resistance deterioration is often inaccessible due to the limits of available data, although the statistical parameters such as mean value and standard deviation can be obtained by fitting or empirical judgments. As a result, an error of structural reliability may be introduced when an arbitrary probabilistic distribution is assumed for the resistance deterioration. With this regard, in this paper, the amount of reliability error posed by different choices of deterioration distribution is investigated, and a novel approach is proposed to evaluate the averaged structural reliability under incomplete deterioration information, which does not rely on the probabilistic weight of the candidate deterioration models. The reliability for an illustrative structure is computed parametrically for varying probabilistic models of deterioration and different resistance conditions, through which the reliability associated with different deterioration models is compared, and the application of the proposed method is illustrated.  相似文献

The rate of information processing during science learning and the efficiency of the learner in mobilizing relevant information in long-term memory as an aid in transmitting newly acquired information to stable storage in long-term memory are fundamental aspects of science content acquisition. These cognitive processes, moreover, may be substantially related in tempo and quality of organization to the efficiency of higher thought processes such as divergent thinking and problem-solving ability that characterize scientific thought. As a contribution to our quantitative understanding of these fundamental information processes, a mathematical model of information acquisition is presented and empirically evaluated in comparison to evidence obtained from experimental studies of science content acquisition. Computer-based models are used to simulate variations in learning parameters and to generate the theoretical predictions to be empirically tested. The initial tests of the predictive accuracy of the model show close agreement between predicted and actual mean recall scores in short-term learning tasks. Implications of the model for human information acquisition and possible future research are discussed in the context of the unique theoretical framework of the model.  相似文献

The O.E.C.D. reportTowards new structures of post-secondary education (1971) outlines the main problems associated with the approach to mass higher education. Two aspects are described; firstly alternative structures for the system as a whole and secondly short cycle higher education.

Technologies such as the Internet and World Wide Web are changing our conceptions of information systems, from who uses them and how they are used, to how the systems are created and who is doing the creating. Everyday users are afforded the same information retrieval opportunities as information scientists or librarians by using emerging information systems such as the Web. Yet, defining best practices for assisting users in finding the information they seek remains an unrealized goal. Discovering how users engage in information retrieval and strategy building while searching for information in open-ended systems such as the Web is an area in need of exploration if these systems are to fulfill their potential as tools for information seeking and learning. This paper describes a theoretically and empirically based framework for how users formulate and employ information-seeking strategies in open-ended information systems (OEISs). Background information and challenges related to OEISs are provided. OEIS theoretical and user perspectives are described. An example based on a recent research study is provided to illustrate use of the OEIS information-seeking framework. Implications for practice and research are offered.  相似文献

An integrated intelligent management is presented to help organizations manage many heterogeneous resources in their information system. A general architecture of management for information system reliability is proposed, and the architecture from two aspects, process model and hierarchical model, described. Data mining techniques are used in data analysis. A data analysis system applicable to real-time data analysis is developed by improved data mining on the critical processes. Digital disruption and an increasingly networked society drive rapid change in many professions and a corresponding need for change in tertiary education. Across the world, information education has, to date, prepared graduates for employment in discrete professions, such as librarianship, records management, archives and teacher librarianship. However, contemporary information practices are less defined and are demanding of new professional skill-sets and understandings. 为了获取词语在文章中的语义权重,解决词语的同义、多义模糊问题,提升信息检索的效率,提出了一种基于概念的检索模型,模型中设计了一种形式化的文本内容表示框架,框架由2部分构成:文章的“领域”以及“情景与背景”信息,并由概念(形式化语义)加以表示.同时,提出了提取该概念框架的方法,给出了用于框架与检索要求间匹配的两阶段平滑算法.实验表明,在TREC6提供的小规模语料集下,采用所提出方法的信息检索模型与传统模型相比,平均召回准确率提升了约10%,效果显著,充分说明了基于本文描述方法构建的、以概念作为处理中介的信息检索系统的有效性和可行性.  相似文献

The authors of this paper have conducted research into the implementation of National Curriculum assessment at Key Stage 1 by local education authorities in one particular region of the United Kingdom, East Anglia. They found that policy documents were being interpreted in a number of different ways, thus allowing a variety of practices to develop.
