Peristeri means a clove in Greek. It's also the name of the area I was staying while I was visiting my grandmother's family in Athens, Greece. Surrounded by a myriad of unfamiliar faces, jetlagged and exhausted, I tried to make sense of all the buzzing conversations going on around me. Sitting on the veranda of my grandmother's sister's home in Peristeri, I studied the faces of my relatives; I barely knew any of them at the time, and the newness of my surroundings captivated me, regardless of my knee-trembling sleepiness.……  相似文献

This essay is aimed at reflecting my English learning experience, which is divided into three stages:The first six years’of study as a junior and senior high school student, when I always got high scores in the exams.I thought I was a sucessful English learner at that time.Four years as an English major in a teacher’s college, where I found my English was as other people called "Chinglish".No matter how hard I worked I couldn’t talk freely with native speakers. As time went on,I got to know the phenomenon belonging to interlanguage fossilization of English learning. Two years later after I graduated from the university,I went to University of Canberra to study my Master degree, there I found the essential factors that could help me get over fossilization through enhanced motivation, increased comprehensible input and production of communicative output.  相似文献

Last weekend,I went apple picking. It’s one of my favorite fall traditions, and I have been going every year since I can remember. When I was a kid,my mother made a trip to the apple orchard a magical thing. She taught me how to gently twist an apple, so that it would pop off the branch without others plunking to the ground. She would point out the sun-kissed fruits at the tippy top of the trees while I climbed to get them.  相似文献

Part Five: Iron Cage and AtticV.铁笼与阁楼Before reaching my imagined destinations: the 8th district where the Elysee Palace and the Matigon Hotel were situated, the van stopped in front of an old building in the 6th district, near the Church Saint-Germain. It was a police station. Of course there was no red carpet out for me. The waiting hall was an iron cage where there were already plenty of sardines(沙丁鱼). The cage was so full that my bodyguards had to cram (填满) me into it, boxed in with at least 15 people. It must have had the highest population density(人口密度) of anywhere in the word. Squeezed in among the others, I could hardly breathe and soon was dripping with sweat. The waiting time was long; one minute seemed to me a century.  相似文献
