A factor analysis of the 12 subtests of the Woodcock-Johnson Tests of Cognitive Ability was performed, using 286 conduct disordered male adolescents as subjects. A principal factor analysis procedure was utilized. Factors to be retained were confirmed using the scree test. The factor analysis procedure yielded three factors. These were interpreted as being a primary verbal ability factor, a secondary reasoning factor, and a secondary numerical processing factor. The perceptual speed and memory groupings identified by Woodcock were not duplicated. Implications of these results suggest the cautious use of the Cognitive Factor cluster scores for diagnosis of strengths and weaknesses for the behavior disordered population.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to analyze the WISC-R profiles of 42 conduct problem children attending public school classes for the emotionally handicapped. This analysis was done to generate hypotheses concerning the children's intellectual strengths and weaknesses, using a variety of subtest groupings to interpret ability patterns. No attempt was made to differentiate between various categories of emotional disturbance, between disturbed and normal children, nor between different kinds of handicapping conditions. The statistical procedures consisted of Analysis of Variance Repeated Measures for comparisons across three or more subtest groupings, and t-tests for dependent samples when only two subtest groupings were being compared. In general, the findings revealed relative strengths in perceptual organization skills, and weaknesses in skills that involve sequencing, memory, and attention. Specific verbal and nonverbal patterns emerged and are discussed, along with implications for practice and directions of future research.  相似文献

This paper reviews recent research on the role of parent-child interaction in the etiology of children's conduct disorder. It examines the role of social and family factors in conduct disorder and the possible mechanisms by which these contextual factors might affect parent-child interaction and child problem behavior. A major focus is on research that has compared the patterns of interaction in families with and without conduct-disordered children, using observational methods, in order to test different theoretical explanations about how conduct disorder develops and is maintained. Further research is needed on the neglected area of positive parent-child interaction, which may be just as important as conflictual processes in determining the development of conduct disorder. Theoretical and methodological issues are raised about the problems of determining causality from correlational research, and the possibilities for naturalistic experimental studies are discussed.  相似文献

In this article, the author discusses the concept of the individual as essentially autonomous. Subsequently, each individual, in theory, is capable of directing the course of his/her own life. Yet, as persons, we are continually required to confront and even overcome new challenges in life. The potential of every human being to respond to such life experiences in a positive or constructive manner is considered in this article. In short, an individual's power to assume control over unanticipated events, as opposed passively to allowing those events to command the dictates of human existence, is examined. The role and importance of education in equipping individuals to confront and adapt to new life situations is debated.
