When I first went to China to teach English I was at a rural school in the south. The closest city was Conghua, with about eighty-five thousand people. I liked to go there on my one day off each week to buy fruit and other things to have in my dorm at the school. This article takes a relook at the 3rd person-s in English and is intended to prove that Chinese learners of English studying in L1 environment have great difficulty with the morpheme at intermediate level through frequency analysis of the errors made in four samples of two sophomores of a university majoring in English who were selected through convenience sampling. Language exists in the discourse rather than in the words or sentences. Language must be taught in discourse. This paper develops and evaluates two English language teaching (ELT) tasks based on discourse approach for business English teaching. The two tasks, which are designed within the framework of discourse theories, conform completely to the characteristics of business English. The paper finally concludes that students can become as creative and proficient as possible in language communication with the adoption of discourse-based approach in English teaching.  相似文献

A verb plays an vital role in a sentence, therefore the study of this perspective attracts numerous scholars. Particularly, corpus-based study has increasing attention in recent years. The present study chooses the THROW verbs in both English and Chi?nese as the subject. The author applies"collocated"function or"pattern query"in two corpus, then analyzes the distinctions of the semantic collocation of the THROW verbs. The findings show that although these verbs belong to the same categorization in a limit?ed range of the specific histories and cultures, there is no one-to-one corresponding relation of these THROW verbs in translation across the two languages.  相似文献

The article discusses the role that the dramatization of English literature plays in addressing two major difficulties in English literary work comprehension for intermediate English learners in China,namely the linguistic difficulty and the cultural misunderstanding. By taking the dramatization of British writer Jane Austin’s masterpiece Pride and Prejudice as a case study,the first part of the essay examines the role of dramatization in tackling linguistic difficulties based on the interactive reading model developed by David E. Rumelhart(1977) while the second part analyzes how an integral framework for understanding target culture is constructed through the process of dramatization with a reference to Galloway’s(1992) four-stage approach to a cultural reading of authentic materials.  相似文献
