A multilevel meta-analysis can combine the results of several single-subject experimental design studies. However, the estimated effects are biased if the effect sizes are standardized and the number of measurement occasions is small. In this study, the authors investigated 4 approaches to correct for this bias. First, the standardized effect sizes are adjusted using Hedges’ small sample bias correction. Next, the within-subject standard deviation is estimated by a 2-level model per study or by using a regression model with the subjects identified using dummy predictor variables. The effect sizes are corrected using an iterative raw data parametric bootstrap procedure. The results indicate that the first and last approach succeed in reducing the bias of the fixed effects estimates. Given the difference in complexity, we recommend the first approach. 相似文献

ABSTRACTEffect size is the basis of much evidence-based education policymaking. In particular, it is assumed to measure the educational effectiveness of interventions. Policy is being driven by the influential work of John Hattie, the Education Endowment Foundation, and others, which is grounded in this assumption. This article demonstrates the assumption is false and notes that, when criticized, proponents either attempt to inoculate themselves by listing (without checking) assumptions or use the specious reasoning that, however flawed their argument, no-one has disproved their conclusions. 相似文献

随着信息技术的发展,教育游戏在教学过程的应用越来越广泛,但学界对其应用效果仍颇具争议。为考察教育游戏对学生学习效果的影响,文章采用元分析法,对教育游戏的实验与准实验研究进行了梳理与分析,发现:相较于传统教学方式,教育游戏对学生的学习效果产生了中等程度的正向影响。之后,文章将学科、知识类型、故事情节、参与方式、研究设计类型作为调节变量,检验了调节变量对研究结果的影响。依据元分析结果,文章针对未来教育游戏应用提出了建议,包括依据不同学科特点设计相应的教育游戏、依据知识类型特征选择合适的教育游戏、增强教育游戏情景设计、增加小组参与的教育游戏模块、注重研究设计的多元化等。 相似文献

Abstract Two complementary approaches to developing empirical benchmarks for achievement effect sizes in educational interventions are explored. The first approach characterizes the natural developmental progress in achievement made by students from one year to the next as effect sizes. Data for seven nationally standardized achievement tests show large annual gains in the early elementary grades followed by gradually declining gains in later grades. A given intervention effect will therefore look quite different when compared to the annual progress for different grade levels. The second approach explores achievement gaps for policy-relevant subgroups of students or schools. Data from national- and district-level achievement tests show that, when represented as effect sizes, student gaps are relatively small for gender and much larger for economic disadvantage and race/ethnicity. For schools, the differences between weak schools and average schools are surprisingly modest when expressed as student-level effect sizes. A given intervention effect viewed in terms of its potential for closing one of these performance gaps will therefore look very different depending on which gap is considered. 相似文献

目的:整合军人症状自评测验的研究结果,探索普遍性结论。方法:通过中国期刊网搜索以SCL-90为工具对军人的调查研究报告,进行元分析。结果:以全国常模为对照组,平均效应值都大于0但较低,以军人常模为对照组,平均效应量都为负值,说明全国常模可能由于年代的原因略偏低、军人常模偏高;军人的精神病性因子分较高。结论:症状自评量表在我国被非常广泛地应用于正常人群,但仍存许多问题需要研究和规范。 相似文献

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is often promoted as an inclusive teaching methodology for supporting all students within diverse contemporary classrooms. This is achieved by proactively planning to the edges of a classroom by thinking of all the potential needs of students. To examine its effectiveness, a meta-analysis was conducted on empirical research, containing pre- and post-testing, published in peer-reviewed journals between 2013 and 2016 (N?=?18). Results from this analysis suggest that UDL is an effective teaching methodology for improving the learning process for all students. The impact on educational outcomes has not been demonstrated. There is a need for effect sizes that are readily interpretable by a broad audience. One index that might fill this need is π, which represents the proportion of scores in one group that exceed the mean of another group. The robustness of estimates of π to violations of normality had not been explored. Using simulated data, three estimates of π (π? direct, r, and rrobust) were studied under varying conditions of sample size, distribution shape, and group mean difference. This study demonstrated that r and rrobust were biased estimates of π when data were nonnormal. We recommend that neither be used in estimating π unless data are normally distributed. 相似文献
