Abstract

The ergogenic and therapeutic effects of increasing muscle creatine by supplementation are well-recognized. It appears that similar benefits to brain function and cognitive processing may also be achieved with creatine supplementation, however research in this area is more limited, and important knowledge gaps remain. The purpose of this review is to provide a comprehensive overview of the current state of knowledge about the influence of creatine supplementation on brain function in healthy individuals. It appears that brain creatine is responsive to supplementation, however higher, or more prolonged dosing strategies than those typically used to increase muscle creatine, may be required to elicit an increase in brain creatine. The optimal dosing strategy to induce this response, is currently unknown, and there is an urgent need for studies investigating this. When considering the influence of supplementation strategies on cognitive processes, it appears that creatine is most likely to exert an influence in situations whereby cognitive processes are stressed, e.g. during sleep deprivation, experimental hypoxia, or during the performance of more complex, and thus more cognitively demanding tasks. Evidence exists indicating that increased brain creatine may be effective at reducing the severity of, or enhancing recovery from mild traumatic brain injury, however, only limited data in humans are available to verify this hypothesis, thus representing an exciting area for further research.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This paper contributes to knowledge of teacher socialization, and in particular, current understandings of sources of teacher dissatisfaction. It focuses on the experiences of beginning physical education teachers working in non‐metropolitan schools. While lining and working in small conservative communities, these teachers were subject to a variety of pressures relating to their isolation, beginning professional status, and personal lifestyle choices. These pressures to conform are explored using Foucault's [FOUCAULT, M. (1977) Discipline and Punish (New York, Pantheon] account of the processes of regulation and surveillance, and by drawing on data which illustrates how teachers’ work practices, appearance and lifestyles were being watched by the school and outside community.  相似文献

Answering the legitimate call for a more transnational approach to the history of sport in Europe, we seize upon the 2012 Olympic Games as an opportunity to look back on Belgo-British contacts in sport since the Middle Ages. Contextualising this history within the wider Belgo-British political, economic and cultural contacts is, indeed, much more revealing than recounting a superficial story about the three medals the Belgian Olympic delegation actually obtained in London. We illustrate that transnational flows and contacts – crucial to the shaping and diffusion of sport – are not always reflected at the level of the Olympic Games. The cases of cycle racing and soccer demonstrate the divergent adoption and adaptation processes of specific sporting disciplines in Belgium and Britain. At the end of the paper, we also reflect on David Cameron's competitive sport policy in primary education, and raise the question whether the dissipation of public funds for elite sport – to the detriment of ‘Sport for All’ – is still defendable in times of government budgetary scarcity.  相似文献

目前我国体育产业存在规模不大、结构不合理、产品有效供给不足等供给端问题,制约体育产业进一步发展。分析体育产业供给侧改革的时代价值和体育产业高质量发展的内涵与动力,指出当前体育产业供给侧改革存在不平衡与不充分并存、扶持政策不完备与工作体制不完善并存、有效供给不足与有效需求不足并存、市场主体活力不强与市场化配置效率不高并存等困境,应从政府、市场、社会和产业等4个层面完善体育产业供给侧改革的内在逻辑。建议从增强生产要素投入、培育体育市场主体地位、破解体育产业结构性矛盾、完善体育产业体系等方面入手,促进体育产业高质量发展,助推供给侧改革顺利推进。  相似文献

Cricket batting is an incredibly complex task which requires the coordination of full-body movements to successfully hit a fast moving ball. Biomechanical studies on batting have helped to shed light on how this intricate skill may be performed, yet the many different techniques exhibited by batters make the systematic examination of batting difficult. This review seeks to critically evaluate the existing literature examining cricket batting, but doing so by exploring the strong but often neglected relationship between biomechanics and visual-motor control. In three separate sections, the paper seeks to address (i) the different theories of motor control which may help to explain how skilled batters can hit a ball, (ii) strategies used by batters to overcome the (at times excessive) temporal constraints, and (iii) an interpretation from a visual-motor perspective of the prevailing biomechanical data on batting.  相似文献
