The Moon and My Dream

The moon changes its shape and brightness each night all the year round. On the night of August 15 in the lunar calendar, the moon is said to be the most round and the most bright. As the round moon indicates "reunion" according to the Chinese culture, we usually celebrate the harvest by eating mooncakes and fruits and enjoy the full moon in the evening. Generally, all the family members would get together and have a good time on this occasion. I love this festival very much, not only because I can eat delicious mooncakes in the day, but also because I like the feeling of being together with my relatives.     

Improvement of Laih and Yen's multisignature scheme

A new attack is proposed to show that a specified group of verifiers can cooperate to forge the signature for any message by secret key substitution due to the leaked secret key or by the group public key adjustment because of the renewed members. This paper presents the improvement scheme which overcomes the security weakness of Laih and Yen's scheme.     

A comparative study of refereed journal articles published by native and foreign born faculty in the United States

One of the key features of American hegemonic power is the ability to attract talents trom all over the world, especially in those shortage areas of science and technology. To explore what is behind the advanced American higher education system, this research compares native and foreign born faculty using four dimensions： demographics, field of specialty, achievement and institutional prestige to predict the number of refereed journal articles published by the faculty members in the four-year American universities. The study finds that foreign born faculty members outperform native born faculty in terms of research productivity in the light of the four measures used. These results suggest that the strength of American higher education, to a certain extent, is contributed by imported talents.

Existence and uniqueness of a class of double pyramidal central configurations in six-body problems

Under the necessary conditions for a double pyramidal central configuration with a diamond base to exist in the real number space, the existence and uniqueness of such configurations were studied by employing combinedly the algebraic method and numerical calculation. It is found that there exists a planar curl triangle region G in a square Q such that any point in G and given by the ratio of the two diagonal lengths of the diamond base and the ratio of one diagonal length of the base to the height of the double pyramid configuration determines a unique double pyramid central configuration, while all points in Q-G have noreferance to any central configuration.     

Relation among C-curve characterization diagrams

As three control points are fixed and the fourth control point varies, the planar cubic C-curve may take on a loop, a cusp, or zero to two inflection points, depending on the position of the moving point. The plane can, therefore, be partitioned into regions labelled according to the characterization of the curve when the fourth point is in each region. This partitioned plane is called a "characterization diagram". By moving one of the control points but fixing the rest, one can induce different characterization diagrams. In this paper, we investigate the relation among all different characterization diagrams of cubic C-curves based on the singularity conditions proposed by Yang and Wang (2004). We conclude that, no matter what the C-curve type is or which control point varies, the characterization diagrams can be obtained by cutting a common 3D characterization space with a corresponding plane.     

The Importance of the Foreign Language Learning Contributing to World Peace

The aim of this paper is to determine the elements which hinder peace, and emphasize the importance of the contribution of foreign language learning to international peace. Language affects the thought and behavior of human beings. The attitude of a person knowing more than one language of a position is not the same as a person not knowing a foreign language because of that the first person can comment about the position in different standpoints. He can see and evaluate the events in a much broader perspective. As knowledge gives comfort, peace and confidence to the human beings, ignorance causes repulse and revulsion. Knowing a foreign language means entering a world of human beings thinking and believing differently, accepting different life-styles, illuminating, clarifying the obscurities which cause prejudice and revealing human behaviors which seem not comprehensible whereas they are actually very easy to understand. A theory can be developed from all explanations emphasizing the contributions of knowing a foreign language to the international communication. The theory is called ＂push and pull theory in communication＂. The huge building of ignorance, which is the place of big wars and conflicts, can be eliminated through the power of love and peace language. To obtain international peace, all the nations in the world should try to maintain and create legal and social background in order to realize their common goal ＂international peace＂. All the governments should come together and develop a common program which provides a contribution to the improvement of the international peace language, which should be taught as a lesson called ＂common peace language＂ in all countries. Foreign language teaching should be started at the very early stage if possible. Outlier Detection in Near Infra-Red Spectra with Self-Organizing Map

A new method to detect multiple outliers in multivariate data is proposed. It is a combination of minimum subsets, resampling and self-organizing map (SOM) algorithm introduced by Kohonen,which provides a robust way with neural network. In this method, the number and organization of the neurons are selected by the characteristics of the spectra, e. g., the spectra data are often changed linearly with the concentration of the components and are often measured repeatedly, etc. So the spatial distribution of the neurons can be arranged by this characteristic. With this method, all the outliers in the spectra can be detected, which cannot be solved by the traditional method, and the speed of computation is higher than that of the traditional neural network method. The results of the simulation and the experiment show that this method is simple, effective, intuitionistic and all the outliers in the spectra can be detected in a short time. It is useful when associated with the regression model in the near infra-red research.
