基于OneNote软件和手写笔的无纸化稿件校对手段

针对期刊编辑部门在稿件编校过程中仍较多依赖人工编校、纸笔办公的现状,尝试使用一种新的稿件校对方式。在操作中采用OneNote软件+“手写笔”的方式,结合实际情况,实现了编校过程中的无纸化,提高了工作效率,降低了工作成本。为期刊编校工作全程无纸化操作提供了一种新的手段。

Implementing Microsoft Bookings for Liaison Librarian Appointments

Abstract

In January 2020, liaison librarians at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) adopted the online appointment scheduling tool “Microsoft Bookings” for student research consultations. We have found that a consistent web-based scheduling system has decreased demands on liaisons’ time, provided an easier referral method for our front-line desk staff, and lowered barriers for student access. In this column, we discuss our process and outcomes, as well as practical suggestions for those interested in adopting such a program at their institution.

Wrangling math from Microsoft Word into JATS XML workflows

The majority of today's scholarly papers are authored in Microsoft Word. Some of those papers include simple and/or complex math. Authors have at their disposal multiple means to insert equations in Word documents, including several of Word's native equation editors and third‐party applications, such as Design Science's MathType. Building workflows that smoothly and accurately transform all of these formats into the appropriate XML markup for use in multiple rendering environments has many challenges. This paper clarifies the different forms of equations that can be encountered in Word documents and discusses the issues and idiosyncrasies of converting these various forms to MathML, LaTeX, and/or images in the JATS XML model. It also touches on workflow alternatives for handling equations in various rendering environments and how those downstream requirements may affect the means of equation extraction from Word documents.

Microsoft Academic automatic document searches: Accuracy for journal articles and suitability for citation analysis

Microsoft Academic is a free academic search engine and citation index that is similar to Google Scholar but can be automatically queried. Its data is potentially useful for bibliometric analysis if it is possible to search effectively for individual journal articles. This article compares different methods to find journal articles in its index by searching for a combination of title, authors, publication year and journal name and uses the results for the widest published correlation analysis of Microsoft Academic citation counts for journal articles so far. Based on 126,312 articles from 323 Scopus subfields in 2012, the optimal strategy to find articles with DOIs is to search for them by title and filter out those with incorrect DOIs. This finds 90% of journal articles. For articles without DOIs, the optimal strategy is to search for them by title and then filter out matches with dissimilar metadata. This finds 89% of journal articles, with an additional 1% incorrect matches. The remaining articles seem to be mainly not indexed by Microsoft Academic or indexed with a different language version of their title. From the matches, Scopus citation counts and Microsoft Academic counts have an average Spearman correlation of 0.95, with the lowest for any single field being 0.63. Thus, Microsoft Academic citation counts are almost universally equivalent to Scopus citation counts for articles that are not recent but there are national biases in the results.

Accurate Information and Reliable Statistics: Utilizing Microsoft SharePoint to Resolve Data Collection in an Academic Library

ABSTRACT

The Borough of Manhattan Community College Library is using Microsoft SharePoint as an all-encompassing intranet to streamline library operations, maintain quality, and enhance decision-making by organizing, sharing, and managing information. Digitization of collection data was deemed necessary to increase data speed and accuracy, and improve harmony between library departments. The new collection management plan is a good fit because it uses SharePoint's workflow capacity to insure an easy transition from paper-based methods and prevents fear of disruption and non-compliance.
