Greenland''''s ice cap is melting at a frighteningly fast rate

The vast ice cap that covers Greenland nearly three miles thick is melting faster than ever before on record, and the pace is speeding year by year, according to global climate watchers gathering data from twin satellites that probe(探测) the effects of warming on the huge northern island. The consequence is already evident in a small but ominous(不祥的)rise in sea levels around the world, at a pace that is also accelerating, the scientists say.     

Method and System for Measuring Spinning YarnTension Using Image Measuring Technique

A non-contact method and system for measuring spinning yarn tension is developed using an image processing technique and based on the theory of yarn balloon dynamics. The theoretical basis of the measurement is the relationship among yarn tension, balloon shape, and spinning parameters. The yarn tension is determined according to the geometric parameters of the balloon, which are measured from an image of the balloon. The digital image is captured with a CCD sensor, and processed in a computer using a wavelet transform technique. A measuring system is developed, and experiments are carried out. The results show that the proposed non-contact method is effective in the on-line measurement of spinning yarn tension for improving the degree of automation of the spinning machine.

Multi-photon ionization(MPI) in plasma is examined in terms of optical metric.and the quantum Volkov state in curved space-time is derived.The cross section of MPI is derived by virtue of the corrected Volkov state within the framework of quantum electrodynamics(QED) formal scattering theory.It shows that the plasma medium acts as a suppression on MPI.     

Relationship between Compostion,Density and Refractive Index for Heavy Metal Fluoride Glasses

The density and the refractive index for various compositions of heavy metal fluoride(HMF) glasses,used to make low-loss optical wave-guides,have been measured by standard archimedes method and by using as Pulfrich refrctometer respectively.The density as a function of composition is calculated considering the effective volume of the ions contained in the glass to be invariant.The refractive index as a function of composition is also calcuated.based on the Lorenz-Lorentz equation,by computing the electronic polarizability of HMF glasses.All calculated results are in good agreement with the observed data.     

Geospacial information utilized under the access control strategy

This paper introduces a solution to the secure requirement for digital rights management (DRM) by the way of geospacial access control named geospacial access control (GeoAC) in geospacial field. The issues of authorization for geospacial DRM are concentrated on. To geospacial DRM, one aspect is the declaration and enforcement of access rights, based on geographic aspects. To the approbation of digital geographic content, it is important to adopt online access to geodata through a spacial data infrastructure (SDI). This results in the interoperability requirements on three different levels: data model level, service level and access control level. The interaction between the data model and service level can be obtained by criterions of the open geospacial consortium (OGC), and the interaction of the access control level may be reached by declaring and enforcing access restrictions in GeoAC. Then an archetype enforcement based on GeoAC is elucidated. As one aspect of performing usage rights, the execution of access restrictions as an extension to a regular SDI is illuminated.
