Business English： An individualised learning programme——An effective but defective ESP program

Business English is the core course for ESP （English for Specific Purposes） programs which empathizes the effectiveness and pragmatism. Feasibility is the crucial element for business English programs especially for in-services business people. Business English-An individualised learning programme is an effective and radical business English program, while its content is mainly learners-providing. There are some weaknesses that need to be considered.     

幼师院校EGP与ESP相结合的英语教学模式探析

英语语言教学(English Language Teaching ELT)分为通用英语(English for General Purposes EGP)和专门用途英语(English for Specific Purposes ESP)两大部分。EGP的教学目标在于使学生掌握听、说、读、写、译等儿个方面基本的语言运用能力,ESP的教学目的在于培养学生在一定的工作环境中运用英语进行交际的能力。社会需要复合型人才,EGP的教学不能满足"语言+专业"的人才需求。只有将EGP与ESP相结合,才能使学生既有扎实的语言基础,又能有效地把英语应用能力转化为职业能力。     

Needs Analysis of English Culture Background Introduction in Spoken English Classes

With globalization there is an increasing need for spoken English for Chinese college students. However, the situation of the teaching system of spoken English in most universities in China is not satisfactory. Influenced by the exam-oriented teaching system, great importance has been put on English grammar and the skills of reading and writing. As a result, students’enthusiasm in improving their spoken English is diminished. Actually, students need some knowledge about English culture background before they can communicate effectively. It is significant for teachers to find out the students’wants and lacks during their spoken English study. Besides, attentions should be paid to English culture background in spoken English classes by both teachers and students. This paper mainly aimed at finding out the needs of students for English culture background in spoken English classes based on the theory of needs analysis.     

World Englishes and English Learning in China

The global spread of English is remarkable, for it has developed many different non-native varieties of English("world Englishes"). On account of the varieties of English, the essay reviews briefly historical causes and relevant literature for English globalization. The issues of English localization, who is qualified as English instructor, what kind of English to learn and how is English changing in China are included. The essay discusses also the implications of World Englishes for English language learning and proposes three points in the context of learning English in China:(1) English language learning should take into account the changes of English;(2)attitude towards global and local English variants should be properly treated;(3)compared with English test results, more attention must be paid to practical communication competences.     

A Corpus Linguistic Investigation into English Synonyms"trip""journey""voyage"

The investigation of near-synonyms is of great significance to the study of English vocabulary and teaching . The British National Corpus (BNC) is chosen to analyze and distinguish synonyms for Chinese English learners, which provide some implica- tions for English teaching, especially for lexical teaching. The results show that near synonyms differ in their collocational behavior and frequency.

A Case Study of The Course Setting of Business English of South-Central University For Nationalities

With the economic globalization and the demand of the situation, many higher universities set up business English major. However, since business English is still a new major and research field in higher education, lots of problems exist in the major construction, in which the issue of course settings is a heated one. The author believes that as for the course setting of business English that is an important branch of English for Specific Purposes (ESP), it should be based on the demand toward business English talents from the market and the characteristics of business English.This thesis will, based on the point view of student, further discuss the issue of business English. Based on the analysis, it is concluded that the course setting of business English in China is not mature enough, which has problems involved in the content and the time arrangement. The significance of this thesis is to put forward reasonable proposals in the hope of solving the problem in the course setting of business English so that the business English graduates will be fit for the needs of the society.
