Knowledge Management (KM) and knowledge sharing are important factors that support lifelong learning, and enable people to continue developing throughout their careers. The concept of a Community of Practice ( Wenger, 2000 ) is attractive in drawing together people whose work shares similar aspects, and consideration is given here to how technology can be used to develop and support such a community. In this paper, concepts from the Community of Practice literature are used to consider the development of a software environment for people working as a community in the area of lifelong learning. The intention was to design the system in an evolutionary way, using a minimal set of essential elements which would be elaborated according to user feedback. Three key design questions are considered: Who can contribute resources to such a system? What happens to existing practices? How is the community engaged? We conclude that, in lifelong learning, knowledge management supported by a software environment offers a good way to bring together communities, resources and experience, but to achieve these benefits, great care needs to be exerted in introducing the system and maintaining existing work practices. 相似文献

This article considers some of the ways in which the transformative power of Web 2.0 digital technology is reconfiguring learning, knowledge and academic identities in the contemporary university. Through a focus on five specific examples, we consider the impact of virtualization processes on spatiality, materiality and embodiment, and pedagogic relations. We argue for the benefits of taking a microsociological approach in order to reflect on the potential of virtualization to bring about new geographies of knowledge production and as a means to identify the ways in which potential transformations are uneven, problematic and contested. 相似文献

There is growing recognition that the economic climate of the world is shifting towards a knowledge‐based economy where knowledge will be cherished as the most prized asset. In this regard, technology can be leveraged as a useful tool in effectually managing the knowledge capital of an organisation. Although several research studies have advanced knowledge management frameworks catering to the requirements of organisations specialising in diverse fields of expertise, no comprehensive knowledge‐management architecture has been found that is technology mediated and orientated towards the emergent needs of an educational research organisation. In this paper, we review a knowledge management technology approach modeled as a web portal that was developed to create a repository and to facilitate shared resources in a research organisation. This technology‐based framework encapsulates the knowledge management processes that capture and augment the explicit knowledge resources of the research organisation. The framework also supports social networks that enable the sharing and encoding of tacit knowledge by facilitating online exchanges and feedback. 相似文献

Conclusion The goal here has been to offer just one possible path that HP technologists might take to meet the theoretical and practical challenges presented by knowledge management precepts and practices. Thinking about knowledge as a process and contemplating interventions at collective and organizational levels are not easy tasks, especially given our conventional roots. Fortunately, there are emerging perspectives that may greatly facilitate the HP technologist’s venture into this arena. This paper examines one important dimension of inclusive education: the development of in-service teacher education courses. Using an example from Cyprus, it discusses the issue of contextualizing teacher training courses to suit teachers' prior knowledge, attitudes and beliefs about inclusion. The paper considers some of the findings of a survey about issues relating to inclusion. The findings suggest that teachers' conceptualizations of inclusion are problematic. According to the findings, teachers tend to think on the basis of a medical and charity model and they favour special schooling for specific groups of children. The discussion considers how a training course for inclusion can be academically robust and professionally useful, while at the same time taking into consideration teachers' prior knowledge and expectations. 相似文献

This article reports on the evolution of a conceptual framework for a construct called data literacy for teachers. Data use has become an emphasis in education but few educators have received sufficient training or preparation pertaining to data literacy skills. This article lays out the framework, identifying the specific knowledge, skills, and dispositions teachers need to use data effectively and responsibly. It concludes with a call to schools of education and teacher preparation programs to begin to integrate data literacy into curricula and practical experiences. 相似文献

The number of state-funded preschool programs for low-income children has increased dramatically over the past few decades, and recent research has indicated that these programs vary considerably along a variety of dimensions. By 1998 only 13 of the current 33 state preschool programs (which serve children 3 to 5, provide some form of classroom-based educational service, and are primarily funded and administered at the state level) had completed a formal evaluation of the program’s impact on child outcomes. This paper presents a critical meta-analytic review of these evaluations, providing measures of standardized effects for all significant impacts to facilitate comparisons across differing domains of outcome and evaluative methods. Although several methodological flaws in these studies are identified, the pattern of overall findings may offer modest support for positive impacts in improving children’s developmental competence in a variety of domains, improving later school attendance and performance, and reducing subsequent grade retention. Significant impacts were mostly limited to kindergarten and first grade; however, some impacts were sustained several years beyond preschool. The results of these studies were similar to evaluations of other large-scale preschool programs for low-income children, such as Head Start. Modest outcome goals are warranted for preschool programs serving low-income children, for example, the promotion of school readiness. Suggestions are presented for improved preschool and early intervention program evaluation. 相似文献

A drill and practice intervention was applied in a small-group setting to improve students' fluency (accuracy and speed) with basic math facts. The Cover, Copy, and Compare intervention (Skinner, Turco, Beatty, & Rasavage, 1989) was modified and implemented with a small, middle school Chapter I math class. Data are presented showing digits correct per minute (DCPM) using a multiple baseline design across sets of division facts. Component parts of DCPM, speed and accuracy, are further discussed. Results of this study provide the scientist-practitioner with ideas about implementing group interventions using drill for math facts. Ways to refine the intervention based on baseline data are discussed. 相似文献

In order to adapt curricula to the new European system of credits, ECTS (European Credit Transfer System), it is necessary to previously elaborate a teaching guide. The teaching guide clarifies the subject syllabus making it easier for learners to understand, sets objectives related to the competencies and skills to be acquired, plans activities that should be developed according to new objectives and analyzes the learner workload that involved in these activities. This paper proposes a teaching guide written by the lecturers of management control, a fifth year subject in the Business Management and Administration Degree. For its elaboration, we followed the guidelines in the White Book sponsored by the Spanish National Agency for the Evaluation of Quality and Accreditation, as well as the guidelines for specific curricula used in the institution, together with the lecturers' experience and knowledge in this field. 相似文献

The models presented here posit a complex relationship between efficacy in student engagement and intent-to-leave that is mediated by in-class variables of instructional management, student behavior stressors, aspects of burnout, and job satisfaction. Using data collected from 631 teachers, analyses provided support for the two models that predicted teachers' intent-to-leave. To enhance generalizability, this study also tested whether the structural coefficients were invariant across teacher gender and grade level. With one exception, the models appeared largely invariant across gender and grade level. Supplementing the structural models, measurement invariance and equality of latent factor means were also explored. 相似文献

Networking for Leadership,Inquiry, and Systemic Thinking: A New Approach to Inquiry-Based Learning 总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0
Recent changes in science education standards have mandated a prominent place for inquiry learning in science curricula. However, change from traditional teaching methods to a more inquiry-centered approach is difficult to enact. While research to date demonstrates a number of successful inquiry implementations, it also reveals a slow rate of change along with possible reasons for difficulty in adopting inquiry instructional methods. Further, inquiry reforms have failed in the past. The Networking for Leadership, Inquiry, and Systemic Thinking (NLIST) initiative, sponsored by the Council of State Science Supervisors and NASA, proposes to facilitate inquiry through systemic reform designed to avoid the mistakes of the past and incorporate new knowledge about teaching and learning. Systemic elements targeted for change include a standard conceptualization of science as inquiry, instructional materials, professional development, administrative support and leadership, facilities, community involvement, and technology infrastructure. To date, the initiative has created a detailed definition of inquiry learning and a rubric for evaluating instructional materials against this definition. Queensland has recently seen the first conviction under the new one-punch law. In this instance a then 19-year-old male punched and fatally injured a 54–year-old man. This article details a six session manualised group therapy approach that was applied within a mainstream school in an effort to support adolescents who had been identified as having regular and heightened episodes of inappropriately expressed anger. The cohort of students attending this school is characterised by a diversity of cultures, families of low socio-economic means and a significant proportion of students verified as having special needs. As such, the introduction of a new therapeutic program was designed to accommodate the needs of a range of students whilst necessarily remaining alert to matters of financial viability. This manualised approach seeks to provide: a common vocabulary for application by teachers/parents/students alike; rehearsed problem solving skills; and an identifiable method to continuing the exploration of cognitions, physical/emotional responses, behavioural choices and associated values. This article will articulate the content specific to the manual such that practitioners may consider application within their own practice. Results of the impact of this manual will be described with reference to two different cohorts – each containing six male students. Group one were scored according to both the PROMIS Emotional Distress – Calibrated Anger Measure Paediatric and Personal Anger Assessment, whereas group two were scored according to the Resiliency Scales for Children and Adolescents. 相似文献
