Part 1. If We Frame It,They Will Respond: Undergraduate Student Responses to the Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education

There remains significant confusion surrounding the purpose, audience, and proposed application of the Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education. This exploratory study addresses the question of whether undergraduate students can understand the language and concepts in this document. By presenting student responses to pretest questions recorded at the beginning of a semester-long research methods course, this article shows that students can, even on first impression, begin to make sense of the complexity and richness found in the Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education.     

大学生信息素养一体化教育体系及其构建对策

我国信息素养教育已开展了二十几年,但主要是以文献检索课方式进行,目前信息素养教育存在诸多问题,根据《国家中长期教育改革和发展规划纲要(2010-2020年》对高素质专门人才和拔尖创新型人才培养的新要求,构建良好的信息素养一体化教育体系是适应这一要求的重要举措。该文探讨如何将信息素养教育贯穿于大学教育的全过程和构建全方位、一体化的信息素养教育体系,以实现大学生信息素养的整体提升。     

浅谈高校本科教学档案管理中的信息反馈

与教学有关的文件资料构成教学档案,对这些资料进行收集、整理、分类、归档、保管是一种客观信息的保存,而对它们的保存使用,则可看做是对客观信息整合后形成的反馈。这种信息反馈服务于高校教学工作的众多方面,对教学运作过程具有十分重要的意义。所以,本文将从不同方面分析教学档案管理中包含的信息反馈的特点,旨在针对高校本科教学档案管理因缺乏系统性理论指导而出现其利用面窄、效率低的问题,探讨怎样高效利用教学档案反馈的信息来服务于教学活动与教学管理。

Academic Self-Efficacy,Information Literacy,and Undergraduate Course-Related Research: Expanding Gross's Imposed Query Model

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this article is to demonstrate the potential relevance of academic self-beliefs to Gross's imposed query model as they apply to undergraduate students, particularly at the IQ2 (transferred) and IQ3 (interpreted) stages. The author argues that, at these two stages, students will decide if they have the skills required to be successful, how much effort they will put into the research process, and if they will seek help from an expert information intermediary. Furthermore, the author proposes an expanded model of the IQ2 (transferred) and IQ3 (interpreted) stages to be tested by future research seeking to understand how undergraduate students navigate the course-related research process.

Millennial Undergraduate Research Strategies in Web and Library Information Retrieval Systems

This article summarizes the author's dissertation regarding search strategies of millennial undergraduate students in Web and library online information retrieval systems. Millennials bring a unique set of search characteristics and strategies to their research since they have never known a world without the Web. Through the use of search engines, they have come to expect that searches can be completed using an easy, single search box that produces complete articles on just about any topic. However, the reliability and quality of much of the information on the Web is questionable. Conversely, information that resides in library information retrieval systems is often of high scholarly content, but there is not a single, user-friendly system for millennials to use. A case study investigation was conducted at the State University of New York at Oswego, a public undergraduate university in Central New York. The goal of the study was to identify the search strategies of a sampling of millennial undergraduate students in both Web information retrieval systems and library information retrieval systems in order to expand upon existing theories about millennials and to suggest interface design enhancements, which could make online library information retrieval systems easier for millennials to use. The findings recommend improving database search functionality, such as natural-language searching, spell-checking, and uniform full-text wording and placement. Results also suggested that increasing the availability of full-text articles would contribute to millennials’ use of library information retrieval systems.

对本科生进行科研训练是培养创新人才的一项重要举措。通过分析信息素质教育与科学研究渊源,提出了以信息素质教育为平台的本科生科研训练型教学模式,在分析了该模式特点的基础上,指出要从科研的思想组织教学、改革教学大纲内容、以课题为切入点,改革教学手段、改革考核方式等方面探索实施该模式的保障措施。     

Information Literacy for Undergraduate Business Students: Examining Value,Relevancy, and Implications for the New Century

This article examines the new-century business relevance of information literacy and why it is important for undergraduate business students. It then validates the relevance and value of the elements that make up the concept of information literacy with current business professionals (recruiters and employers). Business professionals were surveyed to reveal their (1) familiarity with the term information literacy, (2) feelings about the relevancy and value of information literacy in the business workplace, (3) perceived competency in information literacy of undergraduate business school graduates, (4) validation of cognitive difficulty elements of information literacy, and (5) reactions to other terms/phrases that more closely align with the concepts of information literacy in the business workplace. Although these business professionals were in general not familiar with the term, once they were informed of its components, they recognized and valued its processes.

问答式信息检索查询优化技术研究

问答式信息检索是新一代搜索引擎,它接收自然语言描述的问题,在文档集合中搜索并返回问题的精确答案.问答式信息检索中,检索模块性能的提高将直接影响问题回答系统的整体性能.本文研究系统中的查询优化技术,包括两种策略:基于模式知识库的查询优化;挖掘Web语义蕴含信息,构建查询扩展资源.本文利用TREC提供的问题集与答案集(TREC8-TREC13)做实验来测试查询优化方法的性能,实验结果表明,相对于传统的查询生成,本文采用的查询优化技术在检索精度上取得了提高,t-test结果证明,系统性能提高统计显著.
