Abstract With shrinking resources and expanding agendas, more and more museums are relying on consultants to provide expertise when time and resources are critical. Consultants can also provide another benefit that has not been widely discussed within the museum community: professional development opportunities. For museum staff members the process of working side by side with consultants can create valuable learning experiences that multiply the value of consulting fees. When consultants collaborate with their clients they may serve as coaches, partners, mentors, questioners or change agents. This article gives examples of each model and suggests which are best suited to different types of projects, team configurations, staff experience levels and project timelines. It also discusses the kinds of institutional investment museums must make in order to realize this potential for capacity building. Planning and budgeting for value‐added consulting means not only setting aside money for fees, but also budgeting time and resources for collaboration between staff and consultants.  相似文献

This article addresses gay marketers’ tardy and ambivalent attempts to imagine and organize lesbians as a viable target marketing niche. Practical considerations make lesbians less attractive as a market: They have a lower average household income than gay male and heterosexual couples and they are hard to reach for market research purposes and with advertising. But the lesbian market is also dogged by the popular image of lesbians as lacking both erotic and acquisitive desire, embodied in the stereotype of anti-consumption, parsimonious, unsexy feminists who resist marketers’ interest in them as consumers.  相似文献

[目的/意义]知识服务进入一个新时代,各种技术环境和社会环境综合影响,知识服务面临着新的机遇与挑战。研究知识服务的发展过程,探讨新时代知识服务的理念、视域以及如何实现转型,以促进知识服务理论与实践的发展。[方法/过程]将知识服务分为前知识服务和后知识服务两个阶段,通过比较,揭示每个阶段的不同环境和特征。面向未来,从理念、视域和转型三个角度对后知识服务时代提出发展思路和要求。[结果/结论]前知识服务时代是信息服务转型的结果,呈现出技术化、信息化、数字化三大方向。后知识服务时代要求更新理念,拓展视域,从技术与人文的结合、多学科交叉、智慧化等方面促进知识服务的转型。  相似文献

OCLC术语服务是互操作领域的一个研究项目。术语服务可以理解为涉及各种类型知识组织资源(包括规范文档、主题词表系统、网络分类、分类表等)的Web服务。该项目的目标是通过在多个受控词表之间有选择地建立映射,帮助文献收藏机构为馆藏创建相互兼容的元数据,通过任何基于网络的元数据编辑器获取术语资源,实现对术语资源的一站式获取。我们可以借鉴OCLC的做法,对国内外词表问映射进行研究。表4。参考文献3。  相似文献

U.S. government information resources, because of their vast quantity and lack of organization, and because of redundancies among agencies, have never been simple to locate. A budding electronic system, the Government Information Locator Service (GILS), is beginning to put structure into government information as well as to provide online pointers to government resources. Electronic Access to Reference Service (EARS) is a front end to the Health Sciences Library''s electronic mail system, with links to the online public catalog. EARS, which became operational in September 1984, is accessed by users at remote sites with either a terminal or microcomputer. It is menu-driven, allowing users to request: a computerized literature search, reference information, a photocopy of a journal article, or a book. This paper traces the history of EARS and discusses its use, its impact on library staff and services, and factors that influence the diffusion of new technology.  相似文献

With clients beginning to view librarians as essential professionals, there is a tremendous opportunity to combine well-designed services with the new technology and move into the role of assisting people to solve information problems.
