COVID-19 impact on the Chinese top academic libraries: Libraries' response to space,collection and services

In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic was a major public health emergency on a global scale. The literature regarding the pandemic and its impact on academic libraries is still rising. This article examines the two-year process of developing a flexible service scenario and the broader picture by analyzing data on Chinese top university libraries' programmes and outreach initiatives prior to, during, and the normal COVID-19 pandemic (Sept. 2019–Sept. 2021). COVID-19 is found to have a significant impact on the physical space, collection development, and service of the library, demonstrating the characteristics of space access restricted by security measures, collection digitization, and online service. This research also examines the previous year's initiatives and programmes and discusses the next phase of “new normal” procedures. Hopefully, this study will give insight on how Chinese libraries responded to the recent pandemic, informing libraries' outreach and efforts to be better prepared to take imperative, swift, and decisive action in the post-COVID-19 era and beyond.     

数字学术中心:图书馆服务转型与空间变革——以北美地区大学图书馆为例

[目的/意义] 研究北美地区大学图书馆数字学术中心服务创新模式与空间资源配置以及再造过程,为国内大学图书馆转型和发展提供参考和借鉴。[方法/过程] 采用典型案例分析法,对北美地区10所大学图书馆构建数字学术中心情况进行比较分析,概括其服务模式和空间变革的主要方式。[结果/结论] 北美地区大学图书馆数字学术中心是集服务转型与空间变革于一体,提供数字学术研究支持和服务创新集成的新型图书馆空间,它将是未来大学图书馆中最开放、最有创造力和最具创新精神的服务功能。对我国大学图书馆数字学术支持服务的发展有一定的启示意义。     

基于信息共享空间的高校图书馆信息资源建设

学术界对我国高校图书馆信息共享空间的讨论主要以硬件空间建设为主,对深入挖掘信息馆藏资源涉及不多。针对这一现状,文章提出了基于信息共享空间建设图书馆软件资源,特别是图书馆信息资源的建设。参考文献9。

基于用户馆体验视角的图书馆服务平台选择思考

[目的/意义] 传统的集成图书馆系统（ILS）正在被图书馆服务平台（LSP）所取代,国内许多高校图书馆致力于对ILS的评估和对LSP的考察。然而,LSP的产品多种多样,图书馆很难决定哪种LSP最适合他们。对目前LSP主流产品的市场格局、发展情况进行分析,旨在为计划由ILS转向LSP的高校图书馆决策提供参考。[方法/过程] 基于国外高校图书馆使用LSP的体验和感知,对市场上主要的图书馆服务平台进行分析、评估和总结。[结果/结论]由于ILS/LSP市场的整合,LSP供应商数量正在缩减,目前只有Alma、Sierra和OCLC WMS得到充分实施。此外,开源项目FOLIO的推出为图书馆提供了另外一种思路。但目前这种单一的整合性图书馆服务平台不是解决方案,基于平台由若干松散耦合的组件构成的图书馆生态系统,才是图书馆真正的下一代服务平台,自主创新,研发适合国内图书馆环境的下一代开放服务平台迫在眉睫。     

高校图书馆采购招标的书商竞争策略研究

馆配市场是书商与高校图书馆合作的平台,也是高校图书馆进行馆藏文献资源建设获得的主要来源,文章侧重针对中文图书采购市场上的各类型高校图书馆书商及其当前高校图书馆的馆配市场的现状和特点进行分析与阐述,并主要就如何适应高校采购招标环境下的书商的竞争与发展导向战略进行了对策研究。     

Library resources, knowledge production, and Africa in the 21st century

The paper discusses the impact of colonialism on knowledge production and library resources in post-colonial Africa. The discussion concentrates on university libraries in Africa and on the decline of monograph and serials collections and donor dependency in accessing online academic resources and information technology. The limited circulation of Africa-based journals in the industrialized world and within Africa is another concern. Examples are provided from authors listed in the African Journals Online and searched in the Web of Science database. The paper concludes with a brief discussion on non-dependent libraries in selected African countries.     

Approaches to the storage of low use and last copy research materials

This paper draws together the issues regarding the retention of print collections for academic libraries in a digital environment. The discussion focuses on a fundamental mission of academic libraries – ensuring ongoing access to older research material; leaving the discussion of the other key mission, providing current and relevant publications, to be discussed in other forums.The paper incorporates a review of approaches from the literature and from the authors' own experiences. Issues discussed include selecting material, development and management of print repositories, pros and cons of institutional or cooperative facilities and economic aspects. Although the focus is international particular references are made to the Australian experience.The authors suggest that a network of national, and ideally international, print repositories will provide the most reliable and cost-effective solution.     

10,000 Libraries, 4 Years: A Large-Scale Study of E-Book Usage and How You Can Use the Data to Move Forward

Michael Levine-Clark and Kari Paulson examine 2013 worldwide usage data for ebrary and E-book Library (EBL) covering hundreds of thousands of titles. They examine usage patterns across academic libraries globally and establish benchmarks useful to libraries and consortia for local planning. Sessions versus availability, the use of higher-quality e-books, broad disciplinary differences, performance relative to predicted use, and level of immersion are considered. Levine-Clark is in the process of analyzing ebrary and EBL data for a forthcoming white paper, and this presentation and associated discussion will inform the development of that study.

[目的/意义]探讨与研究网络环境下艺术院校图书馆空间再造，以推进图书馆转型与发展。[方法/过程]采用文献研究法、网络调查法等方法，评述国内外图书馆空间再造的理论研究与实践，并以中国美术学院图书馆特色空间再造实践为例，阐述艺术院校图书馆如何在网络环境下对馆舍空间进行调整、改造和再利用。[结果/结论]网络环境下图书馆空间价值的日益凸显，成为图书馆服务的核心内容之一。中国美术学院图书馆通过学术研讨空间、艺术展览空间、书画临摹空间等空间再造项目的实践，拓展图书馆服务功能，提升空间利用效率。     

研究型大学图书馆的创新发展思考

通过在研究型大学图书馆创新发展中的文献资源建设、用户服务和学科馆员等几个方面的详细论述,指出研究型大学图书馆建设必须全方位为学校的基础科学、尖端科学研究服务,更好地满足学校各学科专业发展的信息资源需求。

Current and Future Print Storage for Australian Academic Libraries: Results of a Survey

This paper reports on the results of a 2007 survey of Australian academic libraries and their practice with regard to the storage and disposal of legacy print material. The survey was undertaken in the wake of similar surveys in the United States and the United Kingdom, and with a view to assess the likely future demand for storage space. The discussion focuses on the advantages of a national print repository based on ceded ownership.

Academic Library Services for Users with Developmental Disabilities

Students with developmental disabilities are being increasingly included in college life. As this occurs, academic libraries will be providing more services to this population. This discussion of services to users with developmental disabilities attempts to help fill a gap in the literature and provide information that can be useful for libraries to build on as they develop services. Furthermore, by focusing on students with developmental disabilities, there are opportunities to improve services for all students.     

美国大学图书馆数字学术服务调查研究

大学图书馆是美国数字学术服务的主力军之一。本文采用网络调研与内容分析相结合方法,以CenterNet8所图书馆独立承办的数字学术中心为样本,从中心概况、组织架构、人员配置、空间服务、学术支持5方面展开调研分析,以了解美国大学图书馆参与数字学术服务的具体情况,并指出数字学术服务面临的挑战。在此基础上,本文重点从数字学术服务目标制定、发展模式、实施路径、馆员技能交叉培训4个方面进行思考,为切实推动我国高校图书馆数字学术服务提供有益的启发。     

信息共享空间在美国大学图书馆的发展与启示

介绍了信息共享空间(Information Commons,IC)的概念、模型、特点与发展,分析了美国大学图书馆IC实施状况,论述了IC对我国大学图书馆服务创新的五点启示:IC已成为大学图书馆发展的新潮流;馆舍建设应融合IC理念;建立结构合理的信息资源体系非常重要;人员素质和结构是提高服务水平的关键;评价与跟踪是提高服务质量的保证。
