The section is devided into two parts: one describing applications of quantum cryptography different from key exchange and the other considering countermeasures to additional threats like coercibility or traffic analysis. Every section ends with a short summary or an appraisal in boldface and in the conclusions all topics of this section are briefly outlined and in an outlook we give a personal statement about the relevance of quantum cryptographic pro tocols and promising future directions of research.

The use of citation databases for the assessment of the research activities of organizations in Belarus

This paper reviews the use of publication activity indicators for the assessment of the qualifications of scientific and teaching staff. A new section entitled The Publication Activities of Scientists in Belarus has been created on the website of the Central Science Library of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. This section includes a list of periodicals that are available for the publication of scientific results in key areas of research (based on the Web of Knowledge) and a listof Belarusian organizations that are ranked by the h-index and the number of references to their papers according to Scopus. This section also provides the editors of scientific journals with recommendations on the inclusion of citation data into global databases and other materials for researchers.     

构建检索课程新体系分类目标研究

本研究课题根据图书馆的初级导向教育、中级阶段的信息检索教育、高级阶段的信息检索与分析研究教育，建立分层次、分阶段的教学模式，多层次、分阶段教学。借鉴、吸收布卢姆等人的教育目标分类理论、在教学内容、教学手段、教学方法、教学评价提出具体的办法，结合学生的特点和实际，对检索课新体系进行有效的探索，拓展文献检索课教育研究的领域。     

我国图书馆业务部门设置现状调查与分析

根据对全国54个大中型图书馆业务部门设置情况的调查,分析我国图书馆业务机构重组的现状及局限,并由此得出简要结论和提出几点建议。     

Controlled before‐after study to evaluate change in evidence‐based practice of speech and language therapy students

Background

The integration of evidence‐based practice (EBP) into speech and language therapy (SLT) curricula has been increasingly encouraged in recent years.

Objectives

The study aimed to evaluate whether an educational module on EBP for undergraduate SLT students can improve their EBP competencies.

Methods

The EBP module, taught by a SLT faculty member and a librarian, was delivered over 2 months. All fourth year SLT students (trained group) and all fourth year psychology students (control group) of the University of Liège (Belgium) were asked to participate in the study. Their performance on an adapted Fresno test was measured before and after the module. In addition, the SLT students took a computer‐based searching task. They were also asked to share their perceptions towards the module.

Results

All the 47 SLT students and 57/108 psychology students took the pre‐ and post‐tests. Although both groups performed similarly at the baseline, only the trained students gained new skills and knowledge. Furthermore, 36 SLT students shared their perceptions on the module and offered suggestions on ways to improve it.

Discussion‐Conclusion

Trained students improved their EBP competencies. Nevertheless, the module could be strengthened along with better integration of EBP into clinical modules and across the curriculum.

     

High acknowledgement index: Characterizing research supporters with factors of acknowledgement affecting paper citation counts

The acknowledgments section of scientific papers is paramount in academic production, providing valuable insights into the individuals and organizations involved in the research process. Developing a standard index of acknowledgments would provide a significant metric for measuring institutional and researcher influence. However, the absence of standardized formats has impeded effective analysis of information in acknowledgement sections. This study develop an acknowledgement index utilizing automated text-mining techniques to address these limitations. In addition, we propose two methods to disambiguate research supporters in the acknowledgement section: entity scores based on specific keywords and research similarity scores calculated through co-references. Based on our investigation, we explore the characteristics of research supporters with high acknowledgement index scores and examine the correlation between each acknowledgement index and their performance. Notably, paper citation strongly correlates with research supporters' performance. Next, our analysis delves into the impact of acknowledgement and entity types on paper citations. Our findings reveal that acknowledgments with only person names exert the most significant impact on paper citation.     

Knowledge-based information management: implications for information services

The 1994 Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) standards for information management will change the way health care librarians respond to JCAHO accreditation surveys and may affect the way libraries are managed. This article will highlight the changes in the standards and the new opportunities they offer. Implications for library operations and the challenges inherent in working with the new Accreditation Manual for Hospitals (AMH) are also explored. The long-awaited 1994 Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) Accreditation Manual for Hospitals (AMH) is now on most hospital library shelves. As expected, librarians will find that the section on Professional Library Services (the PR chapter) has disappeared and that the standards previously in that section are now incorporated in part into the new Management of Information, or IM chapter. Although this method of grouping standards may be new to many health sciences librarians, the incorporation of library services into IM may actually provide many more opportunities for librarians than the previous method of addressing library services separately.
